DVD-Audio?
Does anyone have any experience with DVD-A?
Is it really better than a CD (or loss-less iTune track) on a good stereo setup?

I'm thinking of a completely different DVDA.
Although apparently Matt and Trey's band is named DVDA.

DVD-Audio is ABSOLUTELY stunning on a good setup, next time you're in town, come over and hear some tracks.
The Eagles' Hotel California DVD-Audio and Metallica's Black Album DVD-Audio are two discs that I ALWAYS use to show off "Mephisto" (Yes, my sound system has a name- deal with it). |

I'll take you up on that some day! I'm finally getting around to building my man-cave and I'm looking at all the audio/video formats I want to support. I guess DVD-A and/or SACD will have to make the list. I especially liked the review I read about the DVD-A disk of the 1812 Overture blowing out lesser speakers on the cannons. ![]() My goals are simple, 1080p at 110" in 2.35:1 or 16:9 format. Surround sound 7.1 running DTS-MA 24bit In short, a system to give that cat permanent hearing loss and me a better than average chance of getting served divorce papers....

Emotiva.com - great gear at great prices.
Pick up a UMC-1 pre/processor for $699, an XPA-5 and XPA-2 amps to drive all 7 channels FANTASTICALLY, a trio of ERM 6.3 speakers for the front, and 4 ERD-1 speakers for the side and rear surround. Connect with appropriate cables, hook up an Oppo BDP-83 for excellent Bluray/DVD/DVD-Audio/SACD playpack You're on your own for the screen ![]() |

I was planning on using the PS3-Slim for my Blu-ray needs since it can now bitstream DTS-MA, but I am rethinking that since I'd like to have DVD-A, SACD capability. Receiver wise, I'm looking at the Denon 4311ci (~130 watts/channel) For speakers I like the Axiom M80's for fronts and center. QS8's for the Surrounds and of course a subwoofer The screen will be a Center Stage from Seymour AV. Acoustically Transparent with masking panels to covert my 110" 16:9 screen into a 110" 2.35:1 screen as needed. A Panasonic PT-AE4000 projector to help pull off that trick until I can add an anamorphic lens. Cables from Blue Jean Cable. And if you come out and help me build it, I'll play the 1812 concussion section for you!

I've got an Emotiva Ultra 10 Sub, it is a musical little beast- that works well to clear the room of animals when I need to.

The Emotiva XP-3 would be a great companion to that receiver- let it power the fronts (The M80s are pretty power hungry), and let the receivers amps handle the side and rear channels.

Plus I could probably drop down to a lower model on the Denon and save about the same cost as the XP-3. Any thoughts on how the m80's compare to the ERT 8.3's ? (Other than the m80's being in stock)

In the Emotiva lounge, there are a few people who have gone from Axiom M80s to the ERT 8.3s and been very happy.
The people who have Axiom M80s got REALLY happy once they added an XPA series amp. If you go on emotivalounge.com - many Emotiva owners demo the gear for interested parties. |
