Hey, this thread has Disney parks, naked girls and Star Wars

I wasn't sure where to post this, but, hey, this section of the boards is called PLAYBOY, and that sure applies.

Anyhow, I did something yesterday I haven't done since I was about fourteen. I actually purchased an issue of Playboy magazine. Why? Well, I won't waste anyone's time pretending I wanted to read the articles (the Paul Giamatti interview was surprisingly boring). No, it's because this months Playmate is Kara Monaco, one-time Magic Kingdom Cinderella, Alice, Ariel, etc. There's a picture of her in Alice costume right there on the Playmate Data Sheet. (Always a compelling read.)

I read about this in the Orlando Sentinel, and figured this was a must-add to my Disney collection. (Hey, it's an excuse.) The paper wondered what Disney thought about this kind of publicity.

But wait! There's more. There's an entire 2-page spread about Hugh Hefner's trip to Disney World! (You may recall my earlier thread, in which I told of how I drove Hef and his harem around on the Backlot Tour.) Could this issue get any more Disney-fied?

Yes, it could! Right there on the Party Jokes page is the following (I caution you, this is REALLY LAME) joke:

A man went to his doctor and said, "When I got up this morning, I instinctively put on a pair of white gloves and called my wife Minnie. On the way to work, I couldn't help singing "Hi Ho Hi Ho, It's Off To Work I Go." And at the offfice, I called my boss Grumpy. What's the matter with me?"

Isn't it obvious?" the doctor said. "You're having Disney spells."

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this incredibly dumb joke was in Playboy. Not Reader's Digest, not Highlights For Children, but Playboy.

So, I haven't read this particular periodical for a long time, but, when I was a kid, I always thought of it as being sort of, you know, swanky, sophisticated. I guess times change. The best word I can come up with to describe the magazine now before me is, well, nerdy.

Take the cover, for instance. It features a semi-nude but very lovely Asian woman holding a light saber. The cover proclaims that this is a special Star Wars Collector's Issue! I guess this woman was in Episode 3. I've seen it, but I don't remember her. Anyhow, don't miss your chance to see "Bai Ling NAKED!" Plus, there is a feature article full of Star Wars trivia, and a whole section of video game reviews. Jeez. When did Playboy become GamePro with naked girls?

Get this special Collector's Issue while you can!

Hehehe. I guess they realized that it's not pipe smoking millionaires in club chairs "reading" their magazine, it's pimply teenage dorks that can't get girlfriends.

Oh, and YOU, of course, Flippy.

Playboy is now for the kids and the geriatrics (ummm...yeah -- I know of a certain septuagenarian that subscribes.) So where does that leave Penthouse and Hustler...swanky or skanky?

My friend Julien bought me a subscription to Playboy for my Bar Mitzvah. Every year, my Mom dutifully renewed my subscription. By the time I was 16, I just got bored and let the sub lapse. I don't think I've bought a Playboy since the Madonna issue in 1985.

Back in the day, my dad had a huge stash of Playboy magazines from the late 80's in the garage. I used to look through them every now and then, and sometimes I'd even point them out to friends when they'd come over and play. Of course, my mom found out about that little treasure trove eventually and threw all of them out.

Although I don't remember much, I do recall reading some pretty funny jokes. Then again, I was 10 or 11, so hilarious back then had a different standard.

I haven't read a Playboy in years, but from what I hear, Maxim has become what Playboy used to be in terms of the articles.

Flippyshark - I'm glad we have you keeping your eye out for naked Disney Star Wars combos. Does it get any better than that?

You know, in a way I do worry about that. All I had to do to get at my dads stash was dig into the back of a closet to "find the goods". My son is going to have to break a 128bit encryption key after first finding a hidden directory called "archive" on a dismounted volume. At least I can count on the fact that mom won't find them first.

Hey, it was Playboy that got me to notice I was watching girls in a new way. Boyfriend had a subscription, and I really did read the articles....

For a while. Then a lightning bolt hit, so to speak, and my brain kind of said, Uh oh, honey, guess what, you're not so straight after all....
