First Tigger, Now Piglet

John Fiedler, Voice of Piglet, Dead at 80

Christina Ficara - All Headline News Staff Reporter
HOLLYWOOD (AHN) - The New York Times has reported the death of John Fiedler, known for his work as the voice of Piglet in Walt Disney's Winnie-the-Pooh films. He died Saturday at age 80.

Fiedler served in the Navy during World War II before beginning a stage career in New York. He performed in supporting roles alongside Sidney Poitier on Broadway, John Wayne in Hollywood, and Bob Newhart on television.

His resume included appearances in the films "12 Angry Men," "The Odd Couple," "True Grit," "The Fortune" and "Sharky's Machine," and was a cast member on the TV show "Buffalo Bill."

Fiedler was best known, however, for the squeaky voice of Winnie-the-Pooh's worry-wart sidekick, Piglet. He landed the role when discovered for his naturally high-pitched voice.

"Walt Disney heard it on a program and said, 'That's Piglet,' " his brother James Fiedler told The Times.

In addition to his brother, Fiedler is survived by a sister, Mary Dean - the cause or location of his death has not been released.

There aren't many left. The Narrator, Pooh, Owl, Rabbit, Gopher, and Kanga have already passed. Clint Howard (Roo) and Jon Walmsley (Christopher Robin) both appear to be going strong.

Good Lord! So many have all ready passed. Coincidence? Or is there a curse on the Winnie the Pooh series!

Sebastian Cabot died at age 57 of a stroke
Sterling Holloway was 87 when he had a heart attack
John Fiedler was 80
Jon Walmsley is only 49 - hopefully he is around for a while
Hal Smith was 77 when he had a heart attack
Junius Matthews was 87
Howard Morris was 84 when his heart gave out
Barbara Luddy was 70 when lung cancer got her
Clint Howard is only 46 and should be around for a while (and was in a Star Trek)
Paul Winchell was 82

Longevity appears to be a positive side-effect of the honey sucker series

Yes, but that's exactly when the curse kicks in! Oh woe is the cast of Pooh!
Cabot knew! but before he could warn the others he was struck down. Some say Holloway faked his death, but then to fully convince the public he ordered his body cremated. Sterling apparently neglected to fully think his plan out. Al Lutz suggested his remains are currently in hiding in South America.
I also read somewhere that Clint Howard's father is none other then Moe of the Three Stooges. Can anybody prove that it is not so?

Another sad day. He was a great actor, beyond his work as Piglet. Among other things, he was in one of my favorite Star Trek episodes.

Wow, I thought I had seen EVERY Star Trek (original series) episode 20 or 30 times. And yet, this one doesn't ring a bell. Maybe if I saw it.

Wow, he did Piglet right up until the end.

I always remember him from a Twilight Zone episode, too. He'll be missed.
