Eight years ago
We met for dinner
At a fancy restaurant

For nine years we were married
We been together for eleven
But on that day
By the powers of the State of California
We were both single again.

We lived in different cities
You lived with another man
And yet we met for dinner.

Dressed our best
We flirted over cocktails
Laughed through our appetizers
And shared champagne toasts
Before I walked you to your car
And kissed you goodnight
Both single Again

Till three years passed
And we once again met
This time in the Redwoods
In the snow
To exchange vows a second time

So the State of California
Could once again recognize
What we had come to know
That we would spend our lives
Together.
