HI!
|
€ needs some cheering up.
My dear € is not a happy camper at the moment. He's frustrated with his job in a big way and this normally patient, happy, cheerful man has become sad and withdrawn. I've been doing my best to cheer him up but there is just no magic wand available. So, I'm calling on everyone here to help. Give him your words or wisdom, your silly, thoughts, your cheerer-upper nuggets and help € see the bright side of things.

Did someone say "bright side"? Wendybeth? Shall we begin?
![]() I am a living, breathing example of the damage a bad or frustrating job can do to the psyche. I'm also proof that it's possible to escape.

Okay, well, I'm coming to LA and staying at Chateau NA & EM. Maybe not a reason for cheer, and general all around merriment, but you can bet the first round will be on me!
![]() I can be perky when needed. I'm a snowflake and not tinkerbell, but I can bring some magic fairy dust with me anyway! Now, maybe this won't cheer you up, but it did me. How can you not appreciate a 10 year old boy in lederhosen singing one of the most fiendeshly wicked arias ever penned by Mozart meant for a Soprano? This is amazing and the kid is not even sweating it. As the person who posted said, this is better than seeing sopranos I've paid to see. ![]() On the practical side, is it feasible for you to make a job jump? Donna

Can we just start a commune and have done with it? Some place where we can farm and live bohemianly, but with enough hard plowing work to sustain us? (no snide remarks about me and my boyfriend, please)
I, too, am sick of my job and depressed about it. I don't know why, because it's a fine work environment. Something inside me is screaming for me to get out ... but I also crave comfort and security. If the commune idea is too far a leap, I hope € will figure out to look within for the happiness dwelling in his greatness as a kind, warm, witty, compassionate, intelligent, funloving person ... and realize that the stuff of life that gets us down (jobs, ruts, seasons that can't decide between winter and summer on a daily basis) are surface coatings that should not force the focus of our attention. Whether you are at a crappy job or at the lottery winning ceremony, you are always YOU. You can either let life's ever-changing circumstances of surface bring you up and down all Maliboomer-like, or you can choose the steady confidence and happiness of basing your emotional states on the wonderfulness of constant YOU. (€ can be way ahead in this game of self-referral, since he's got that really wonderful self of his to deal with.) |

Well, GC just made my day, at least.
![]() Mr. Meinke, what can I say?? Everyone can remind you of what a great person you are but that doesn't help when you're stuck in a shtty job, now does it? I know what you're going through. You may think that you have so much seniority where you're at that it's not worth a change, but if it's really killing you to be there, is it worth it? All the money in the world doesn't make up for spending 8 hours a day in a place you hate. You've mentioned your grievances with your job many times and I know you deserve (and can get) better. Who knows, you may even end up with MORE cash in your pocket. You've inspired us to be spontaneous and unpredictable so many times. I think it's time we inspired you to make the leap to another job. For a mischief-maker such as yourself to be stuck working for The Man is a bummer, not just for you, but for world karma! This is the age of the job hunt. No one stays in one place forever anymore. It's so easy to look for new choices. Mister, march yourself right over to the Monster.com and get your ass looking! (Ok, maybe you should wait until you get home tonight.) We believe in you, and it's time you believed in yourself.

Unemployment is at an all-time low in OC right now. This is the market for those looking for new jobs. NBC reported that Anaheim/Orange is #17 (I think) in the country for jobs.
Seniority. Meh, who needs it when you can get a better position. Sure, companies tote promoting from within but when it comes down to it they'd rather have the guy from another company with experiance. |
