Jane Wyatt, Mother on ‘Father Knows Best,’ Dies at 95

Jane Wyatt, who reigned as America’s ideal suburban mom during the 1950’s when she starred with Robert Young in the television sitcom “Father Knows Best” and who nearly lured Ronald Colman away from diplomacy and into a lamasery in Frank Capra’s 1937 film “Lost Horizon,” died on Friday at her home in Bel Air, Calif. She was 95.

I only heard a snippet yesterday on the car radio and have spent the last 24 hours thinking that Jane Wyman had finally kicked it.

Unfortunately, the history of incidents like this is that the mistaken person actually does kick it soon after. So, now I most likely will have to live with the guilt of killing the first Mrs. Ronald Reagan. Much like Lani struggles with her guilt over killing Jimmy Stewart.
