Any DDR experts out there?

Is anyone out there versed in the arcane art of Dance Dance Revolution?

There is a whisper on the wind that Santa might be bringing one on Christmas and I'm just curious to what type he might bring

One for the PC, or the PS2, a metal based platform with a handle or the more simple pad type...

Any experts out there?

Well, the only thing I know is that your Santa must have some $$ or really want to go Hollywood if they buy the one with the rails. That is big time bells and whistles.

The PC? Wow, I didn't know they had it for the PC. Tells you what little I do know.

Asked my son about this a couple of weeks back and he said it was really good for the PS2. I like the simple pad because you can put it away and store it easily. I haven't tried but if it slips you can put that 'non-slip' stuff they sell all over under it. Like what you put under throw rugs?

He also said they are bringing out another new one with even more songs.

Damn. I am pretty sure he said PS2. LOL If I am wrong, I'll post back. Just his opinion but a darn good critique on those things.

We've had one for the PC and then one for the PS2. (a few years apart as we moved to console gaming from PC).

We should have spent the extra money on the better ddr pad. We got the cheaper version and it bunches and slides all over. Pretty useless.

The one that was about twice as much as a fairly thick matt/support under the plastic "game pad" that made it seem like it would have been a better choice. YMMV.

I had a friend build a wooden platform for his pad. Attaching it to the base prevented bunching and sliding. That was years back, before it was available in the US. He was pretty serious about it.

What I'm looking at is one of the metal ion pads.

Now, that would be pretty cool. I just don't have space for it.

I don't know what type the Son has but I haven't seen him have problems with it bunching. He wears socks, maybe that helps?

Oh yes, people who are into it are serious. It is great for kids, an exercise they enjoy and get a good workout!

Do you think having two of the less expensive pads would be more fun than a single better quality pad? Is the game better played against another player or in turns? (<- you can tell I'm really up on this subject)

Our pad (and I have no recollection of how we came to have one) is pretty crappy and having two pads that allow side-by-side play but don't accurately represent what you're doing doesn't seem to me it would be much fun.

But the few times Lani and I have played it, we haven't been good enough to care about competing.

I would go for 1 good one over 2 crappy ones. The crappy ones are well - really crappy.

Kids have used socks, no socks, never shoes, on carpet and the darn thing just goes all over. One must kick it, unbunch it, while trying to dance, and getting closer or farther away from the TV as it goes.

Those big time ones with the support underneath and the handle look fabulous!
