Compact Floursecent Light Bulb Alert
I was in a Ganahl lumber earlier. They have compact flourscent light bulbs for $0.20 (yes - twenty cents!!!) with a limit of five per person. I got my five!!
It appears that this is sponsored by So Cal Edison. I don't know if anybody else (like Home Depot) is participating in this. There are eight Southern California Ganahl locations: Anaheim, Buena Park, Capistrano Beach, Corona, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach, Lake Forest, and Los Alamitos. Find the one closest to you here.

Are these name brand bulbs? I ask because we recently were excited to find a package of very inexpensive compact fluorescents (not that cheap, but very cheap for the type of bulb) only to be very disappointed with the light quality. We have CF's in nearly every fixture that can take one in our place and generally can't complain about the light. But these sucked and sucked hard. We were replacing 40 watt bulbs with CF's that claimed to be 60 watt-equivalent...and the room was dimmer than with the 40 watts. Screw that.
We definitely got what we paid for in that deal

The are MaxLite. I don't know if that is a "brand name" or not. Idiot me didn't look at my choices, but I see that I purchased 23 watt bulbs (which they say is equivalent to 100 watt bulbs).

I like to use 4 watt night light fixtures with light sensors throughout the house. This prevents the need to turn on lights when walking through the house at night, and is great for guests who don't know where the switches are.
The other day I was at Home Depot and I spotted these LED nightlights with sensors. They are very cool! A nice blueish light, and seem twice as bright as the 4 watt, and don't flicker off and on a lot at dusk like the incadecent ones. They are rated to last 10 years (no replcing bulbs) and use only 25 cents a year to run. They came in a three pack and were also sponsored by So Cal Edison... For under $4 a three pack!!!!!!!!! ![]() I also bought all LED Christmas lights when they were marked down after Christmas. I replaced them all. LED is the way to go!

Yeah, I planned my new desplay, drew it out, counted how many strings of what color and size (yes, they have C3, C7, C9 equivelents) and went to all the stores looking for them. I got them all after going to about 6 stores, and spending about $120. I spend about half that in extra electricity per season, so after 3 years I'll be square, and since the lights won't need to be replaced and won't need any bulbs replaced for at least 10-20 years, I'll be saving plenty in the future (and helping the environment in the process).
I saw some compact florecent bulbs at Rite-Aid, a four pack for $2.99. Sponsored by another Electric company (the one form down south, but can't think of it).

I agree on the LED's. Ive been replacing the regular bulbs in my hodrod a few at a time over the past few months. dash lights, signals etc. nearly zero amp draw, wayyy brighter and will last longer than the car itself at this point.
I'll have to look for the sensor LED's. they sound right up my alley as Im so night blind anymore that I dont dare wander around the house at night without something left on

I got 10 or 15 of them for $2.00 at CostCo about a year ago or so.
They were $12.00 with a $10.00 instant rebate at the register. Love it. ![]() |
