Start Speading the news......

We're going to New York!!!!

Derek used to live there with his parents (on Long Island) and I have never been. I am so excited I can't stand it. We're going to the Empire State Bldg first thing, Chinatown for Dim Sum on Sat, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Ground Zero, etc. Derek keeps asking what i want to do and of course I said the above and Times Square.

Anyone have any suggestions that i have not thought of????

There are a couple of threads in Jet Set you should check out.

burger joint in Le Parker Meridian hotel
(go through the front, and hang a left right past the check-in desk) - excellent burgers in a place that looks like a throwback to the 70s. The menu is basic: burgers, fries, shakes and sodas.

Also the Tea Box at Takashimaya, which is near the World of Disney store on 5th Ave.

craftbar and 'wichcraft are both owned by Tom Colicchio of Top Chef fame. I've had tasty meals at both places. Craft family website

Have a great trip!

Go to TKTS in Times Square (there is another location, but definitely iright off of times square) and get tickets for a broadway show -- HALF price for THAT EVENING! You wait in line in the afternoon and come back to broadway in the evening.

The address of TKTS is 220 W. 46th Street. (Broadway and 46th Street). I think that location opens at 3:00 p.m., so you'll want to get there around 3 or a bit beforehand for the best choices.

They ONLY take cash and traveler's checks.

http://www.entertainment-link.com/tkts.asp
has a list of the current shows and the discounts for them.

My recommendations: Avenue Q, Chicago, Hairspray, Spamalot, The Drowsy Chaperone (Al said "the drowsy chaperone" was hysterical).

Cherny baby.....Spamalot would be a must if we go that route. It's right up Derek's alley for plays/musicals. I can't get him to agree to Wicked .

I'll second that!

It's not a show for women to take their straight husbands (so GD & NM are fine ) who don't really like theater, but if you already like musicals and want to see a great show that pokes gentle fun at the musicals of old, it's WELL worth seeing!

Did not Dan Rathers briefly try that line as a sign off on the CBS News?
