'She'll Never Be Your Man'

Sooo...

Ya'll know who I am a big fan of. And, if you've looked down at my signature, you've seen that itty bitty picture of his new cd that came out the beginning of June called 'Carry On'.

I was just listening to it, boppin' about as I am packing up for our trip {*sniff* not to Dorst Campground} and this song came on.

I really really like it.

It is really a different song, for anyone, I think.

http://www.myspace.com/chriscornell

Here is a link to his myspace. There are links so you can hear 3 different of his new songs.

This is a different sound than he had with Soundgarden, Audioslave, and even a departure from Euphoria Morning.

I am enjoying the whole cd but this song really has me.

He also does a cover of Michael Jacksons' 'Billy Jean'. At the recent benefit show I attended, he elluded to the fact that something similar had happened to him. On Loveline he said that some woman some years ago put his name down as the father of his child. He didn't know about it until they started garnishing his wages. He tracked her down, and wanted a paternity test and his lawyers told him not to. They thought he was the father. He wasn't, it was proven.

Um. I found that interesting. Especially how someone could just put anyones name down and then they actually garnished his wages!! How the heck does that happen?

Oh, but, please check out the sounds. I hope you'll be pleased.

Also, check out his extensive tour dates....

I've always really loved Chris Cornell. I remember being incredibly heartbroken when Soundgarden broke up - it was their music that gave me a love for music of all sorts. Eventually, when he started doing his own stuff, the joining up for Audioslave for a while, I was happy. His latest stuff has been choice.

Somewhere in my piles of "stuff" (see other thread) - I have a cassette walkman recording I made of a 1989 Soundgarden show I went to in Hoboken, NJ. I believe they were opening for Mudhoney. I should digitize it...

Oh gawd, yes, and share...Please?

Yes, blueerica, Soundgarden, dang, I have been listening to some of the really early stuff lately and have been totally missing that.

On his current tour, he is doing songs from his whole library. I am so anxious to hear him but I will miss both the guys from SG and AS. I am hoping as much as I loved the playing from those bands I will get into this new band.

I've wanted to see Tom Morello on his 'Nightwatchman' tour but missed out. He was pretty cool and offered a free ticket to people from their now defunct fan club.

Ooops, did I just admit I was a member of a fan club???

I caught Soundgarden at a Day on the Green with Metallica and Faith No More. I remember being impressed with Chris Cornell's live vocals.

The Audioslave stuff, for the most part, sucked.

I just heard that song recently. I was surprised at how much I liked Chris Cornell.

On a side note, did you know the song "She'll never be your man" was based on a friend's experience of losing his girlfriend to another woman? Thought it was a pretty cool concept.

Rant on "Why Blueerica Liked Audioslave"

While I haven't met Chris in person, I have met Tom Morello (and the rest of RATM) on a handful of occasions. I can say, with all of my heart, that Tom is one of the nicest guys I've ever met, and I'd venture to say he's one of the nicest guys on the planet. He's just... here. Know what I mean?

Now, I'd loved Rage for a number of years, completely idolized them in fact (hey, I was in high school). So when I found out that one of the busboys at the restaurant I was working at when I moved to California knew Zach De La Rocha, I was stoked. They came by a handful of times. The first time, Zach was very kind. In subsequent returns, rolling up in his black SUV and expensive clothes, of course, I realized that... well... it felt like he looked down on those of us working at the restaurant serving him - he always needed special seating, never said hi to anyone again, and expected free stuff. It was such a disappointment - plus the revelation that maybe money had 'gotten' to him - it's hard for me to listen to RATM, or more specifically, his voice again. He became the opposite of what I'd thought he would be (the first of many people that would fall into the "disappointment" category). I don't expect perfection, but for crying out loud, if your job involves singing and rapping about injustice and the poor, where do you get off being such a little sh*t?

When I found out Tom Morello (and the other RATM guys) and Chris Cornell were getting together, it was like a dream come true for me. I liked it, even though I felt Tom could go farther with his guitar skills than Audioslave ever went.

When I heard Rage was getting back together, I was actually bummed. I was hoping Zack would get his come-uppance. He was never as good as he thought he was without his "backup." I hope I hear Audioslave again, or that the rest of the RATM band finds something better to do than relive the RATM days. I'm soooo over them.

Back to the OP, I still couldn't be happier that Chris is doing his own thing. Such a talent just can't go to waste.

I finally am back and thank you for your posts...even if you think AS sucked, STC. {FNM was great, btw, ever hear Peeping Tom? I like some of the cd, mostly like the lead...}

be~ wow, I would agree with you on Zachs' attitude. That band was supposed to be for the people, and, I would say, for all people. So, his attitude was just wrong.

I enjoyed the 'boys' {Timmy C., Brad W. and Tom M.} so much in AS as they were so cool and able to be themselves and not this RATM tough a$$ band. I was so disappointed when they broke up but I know that Cornell loves to do his own thing. Loves to experiment with his voice, different sounds.

I know not much about the RATM reunion and don't know if it is what broke up AS. Duh, I guess that was it. People blamed Chris but what is he supposed to do? The whole band was doing things, individually, while on haitus but to get back with the previous band? Oh well.

Tom Morello. Yes, he is one very nice gentleman! I had the opportunity to meet him {of course, in one of those line things} and he signed an Axis of Justice shirt for me. He laughed at me when I asked what a mom could do without getting arrested. I was serious. But, really, he was a really nice guy. When AS ended, he sent out notecards to all of the club members thanking them for their support and he actually signed all of them. {I guess over a thousand?}

Anyways, I love 'She'll Never Be Your Man'. I hadn't heard that it was about a freind, I thought it was just a hypothetical situation. But, yeah, it happens.

I need to call a friend up. She is holding some tickets for me for the show at the Wiltern...don't know if I can go...ugh......

They are doing songs from Cornells complete library. So hard, I love songs from all of his career...SG, ToTD, solo and AS. What to do...

I should edit that to say Tom Morello didn't laugh at me, he just smiled that broad smile and said 'Quite a lot of things!' in a laughing way.

Thanks again, b.e. for your story about Zach. I was dying to come back and ask you about him as you had eluded to something before.

Egads... I think I was in a ranting mood the other night when I posted that. After it was out and posted, I decided it was weird to have a rant against someone I hardly know. I had (essentially) idolized Zach and RATM for so long that the reality of it all was such a disappointment. It all came at a time when I felt disillusioned with the political process and "The Left." (I was a fairly staunch Liberal, now I'm just disillusioned with everyone).

So, there's the more rational side of me that says it was as much my expectations that burned me as the disappointment that Zach de la Rocha was not as awesome as I thought he was.

Still, practice a little more of what you preach, buddy, is what I think every time he's brought up around me.
