Halloween 2007
Bring out your dead.....er, I mean, bring out your plans.
I absolutely adore this holiday but since we're traveling for much of October I'm not going to have time to make an elaborate costume or throw a party (yeah, it's my best excuse). Also, the 31st is a freaking Wednesday. I work until 9pm on Wednesday. My boss has said I can take it off if I want, but even if I did, what would I do? The trick or treaters are all done before I even get home on a normal day. Our fair city has a Treats in the Streets on October 25th. That's a Thursday. If you're not going to do it actually on Halloween, you'd think they'd shoot for a Friday or Saturday?? Not only that, the trick or treating ENDS at 5:30pm. ENDS. It's enough to make a cadaverous girl cry in her black velvet hanky. Once again, I'm struck by how America is dismantling this holiday, even as the orange and black decorations become more and more ubiquitous and Christmasified. Anyway, that's my rant for this year (please tune in every October for my gripes regarding parental fears and PC party pooping). Are any of you rejoicing in darkness and innermost fears this spooky fall season? What are the kids wearing, wendybeth/katiesue/Moonliner/scaeagles/traci/mouseygirl? (did I miss anyone?) What are the adults wearing? ![]() ![]()

a pirates life for me...again
I never get trick-or-treaters at my house. just as well I think. it keeps me from loading my cupboards up with candy-licious junkfood that I would eat far more of than Id give away anyway. there are a few adult super-parties given every year by local radio stations. Ive seen some of the pics over time but never been. looks like fun...but yeah...a wednesday. :-/

If I end up at a party I'll pull out the Jessica Rabbit dress or my French maid costume. To tired to think of something new.
If I don't I'll end up at a friends house passing out...candy that is. |

Maddy hasn't decided yet. There's her first school dance on the 26th. I'm not sure if it's costume or not.
We'll have her annual pumpkn carving party on the 28th. It's a little early but it's too hard to schedule on a weeknight. I put down cheap plastic table cloths all over my kitchen floor. Put the pumpkins on it and let them have at it. Then when they're all done I just wrap up all the mess in the table cloths and make a trip to the dumpster. Totally easy. I usually only schedule it for a couple of hours - longer and the natives get restless and make me bonkers. The kids love it and they come up with some pretty creative pumpkins. I don't get many trick or treaters. The ones that show up later usually totally score because I'll throw in half a bag of candy just to get it out of the house.

HI!
|
We have a booth at the Howl'Oween doggie parade this year. I'm making our booth into the "Bone Yard". I'm making toombstones with pet epitaths on them, an open grave, a table that is a crypt, and other creepy things. It will be a walk-thru booth and the owners will get their swag after walking through the bone yard. This is an experiment that I sure hope works out.

I expect our plan will be more or less be a repeat of last year. My son will be remaking his maze - Maze v2.0. Headliner will be doing the candy run around the neighbourhood, and I'll probably recreate my "stick man" costume from a few years ago. I dress all in black and then take glow necklaces, straighten them out and attach them to my arms, legs and body to make a stick figure. From a distance, in the dark, the effect is quite striking.
Here are the day-after remains of the maze from last year. ![]()

I don't get out of class until 9:20. No Halloween for me again this year.

I don't know of anyone throwing a party this time around. It's a freaking Wednesday, so I totally understand. Can't throw one myself because my party-throwing dance card is already full for the year with two upcoming events.

Zach will be Davey Jones this year. I scored him a cool costume in Vegas at the Disney outlet store. He loves the face mask and claw hand. Now he is trying to convince me he needs a bloody sword to go with it. I don't recall seeing Mr Jones with a bloody sword
![]() I usually dress as Sally but it really won't fit in with his costume this year. I like the stick man idea, cheap and easy. I'll have to suggest it to Gary. He's a crumudgeon though and usually hides out for Halloween! My friends used to put on a concert every year for Halloween and that was a blast but the old Grange Hall won't let them anymore. That was a fun old place to decorate. It usually took us all night but it was a blast! |
