![]() I can't be there, I will be on a plane. That said, any swankers wanting to see an awesome silent film in a great venue, here's your chance!
I met William Wellman Jr. at the SF Silent Film Festival, he was lovely and looks so very much like his father, it's uncanny. I can recommend his book, but it is not a cheap volume to purchase. I find the headline kind of funny, since Richard Arlen and Buddy Rogers were the stars of the film, along with Clara Bow. Cooper at this time was not a star, but you can see him pretty much being born in his one scene in this film. He steals the scene right from under Rogers and Arlen. Then again, Arlen and Rogers are little remembered today. Clara Bow, as always, is a delight. Oh, and the aerial footage is pretty awesome. Come out and celebrate the 85th Anniversary of the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood! Cake + Libations + Music + Clara Bow + Gary Cooper in "Wings" THURSDAY, October 18th 6:30 PM Book Signing & Reception 7:30 PM Screening WINGS, 1927, Paramount, 139 min. Join us to celebrate the 85th Anniversary of the Egyptian Theatre with a screening of William A. Wellman's classic, the first movie to ever win the Academy Award for Best Picture. This WWI epic features breath-taking aerial stunts blended with real battle footage. But there is also a struggle of the heart as two pilots/friends (Richard Arlen, Charles "Buddy" Rogers) rival for the love of the same woman. Meanwhile, "It Girl" Clara Bow waits patiently for the man she loves. With an early Gary Cooper appearance. Booksigning with William Wellman, Jr. in-person for The Man & His Wings: William A.
