Sesame Street - Not For Kids?
The first episodes of Sesame Street are out on DVD now, and they come with an earnest warning that they're for adults only.
I want off this planet. Here's the article |

Wow. I agree that kids are shielded more now than in the past; I don't think it's such a good idea but it's not my call.

I was just telling the Girl about how Morgan Freeman used to be on a kid's show called 'The Electric Company" and how I loved to watch the show primarily because of him. (We were watching 'Evan Almighty' and she was wondering what other movies he's been in). TEC was a great show, like 'Sesame Street' it was new, a bit subversive compared to a lot of the crap that was out then, and most of it would be considered totally un-PC these days. I see very little on TV these days that even comes close to the originality and excellence that shows like the early 'Sesame Street', 'Zoom' and 'Electric Company' had going for them.

The Electric Company was where I was first introduced to the genius of Tom Lehrer. I am grateful that I was exposed to those great PBS shows growing up. God bless Mr. Hooper.

Three! Two! One! Contact, makes it happen, is the reason, that everything happens, contact!
What's hilarious to me is that while PBS shows are way more moralistic and PC now than when I was a kid, the shows for kids older than preschool are way more adult in theme, contain more violence, etc. But frankly, I'd almost rather have the violence than the crappy morals PBS tries to push on preschoolers.
