From the Management of your Washington Nationals:
Welcome to Washington D.C. Welcome to the Brand New Nationals stadium Welcome to all baseball fans There is just one small thing we need to mention. We decided not to build a parking lot. Please enjoy the games.

What's the urban environment around the stadium?
I think Wrigley only has one unpaved parking lot with only a couple hundred spaces. After that, if you insist on driving to the game, you have to find municipal or street parking and walk. I don't know how things have changed in the last year but according this Washington Post article the blame isn't necessarily with the team ownership but the D.C. city council. The original stadium agreement terms has the city creating 1700 parking spaces and they've not done so. |

The original plan called for a parking structure attached to the stadium which the city would pay for. However somewhere along the way the "structure" became shops and restaurants which the city then decided not to pay for. So the team created a new parking plan but their plan was "use the street". The folks that live on the streets complained so the city has banned parking (sort of) on the streets during games and now the team is pointing the finger at the city saying they are keeping everyone from parking.
So at this point many of the families (like my own) that like to load up the mini-van and drive to a game have refrained from purchasing season tickets like we did at the old stadium. So season ticket sales for the new stadium have tanked and the team is scratching their heads wondering why sales are down.
