The Mae Shi - this Thursday night 5/1
Here's yet another thread that's basically just Jesse asking "Who wants to join me on an almost-last-minute adventure to see a band or movie you probably never heard of?..."
A week and a half ago, NA and €uro went to see The Mae Shi with me at Spaceland. The band was fantastic. For the past 10 days or so, I've been familiarizing myself with their music and would like to see them again. According to their website and myspace page, their tour of Europe starts on May 6 and goes to the end of the month, with no SoCal dates listed. Then, all of a sudden, a listing appeared that they'd be playing in Pomona on Thursday, with absolutely no details. I emailed them today, and they just got back to me - the show will be at Walker Lounge at Pomona College: just north of Sixth and N College Way at 7pm. I'm fairly certain that I'll be going - the drive to Pomona is completely painless - I just got back from seeing The Breeders there tonight. Anyone wanna come?

Hmmmm - I work in that direction and have been working late these days, so it might be an easy one for me to make....

I'm SO happy that I went - Other than one song, I really had no idea what I was in for. The energy level was awesome, from the band and the small but enthusiastic crowd. It was neat to talk with the band members, and a film crew making a documentary about indie music. Most importantly, I left the show with an awesome noise making device, that can and will be modified soon to be even more awesome, thanks to it's designer and builder- the guitarist for the band!
I was playing with different settings on my camera, trying to learn certain things, and lighting was odd at best- but I got some pics that I cobbled together to represent the great feelings that I got from the Mae Shi ![]() Here's a hi-res version, if anybody's interested... |

Another great show - made even better by the company. Thanks for coming along, Matt!
I stuck a slide show from my new camera on my blog (not as groovy as CoasterMatt's shots, but a reasonable representation from my perspective). Also, according to the guys in the band, there will be a couple of local shows in June. Get ready...
