Help Desk: Vista Update

I have an issue on a box running Vista. I have an update called “Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109)” that keeps refusing to install. I keep getting an error Code 735D. I have looked the problem up on the MS web site as well as the interwebs in general, but couldn’t really find a solid answer.

Do I need this update (my computer is used as our "server" by making the Shared Docs folder our file repository)?

If I DON’T need it, how do I kill it?

Are you running SQL Server 2005 on your home PC? I do but I'm strange that way.....

It is not something that comes with Vista (even if you are sharing).

Seriously, if you didn't consciously install SQL Server then I'm not sure why it's trying to update.

This is what I do some days at work:

Select * from dbo.coworkers where coworkers = 'smrt'

0 results returned.

Try this link - I know the error you're getting isn't exactly the same, but it seems that people are getting several variants of errors, but this is working.

If that doesn't work, and you aren't running sql server, you can tell windows to ignore the update.

1) Open the start menu and type "Windows Update" in the search box, run Windows Update.

2) Click "View Available Updates" under "Install Updates"

3) Find the offending update and uncheck the box next to it.

4) Right click on it and select "Hide Update"

5) Close the window.

It'll stop bugging you.

If after doing that, should you want to install the update afterall, just run the "Windows Update" again and on the left side click "Restore Hidden Updates" and it'll become available again.

One note: it is my WORK computer.

To the best of my knowledge, I am not running SQLS2. I assume that it is an OS? (Sorry - I am a PC neophyte)

Boss wanted to upgrade to Vista because more than 5 people can connect to Shared Docs at a time (see OP).
