The bunny awoke its owners, Gerry and Michelle Finn, by scratching on their bedroom door as smoke poured through the house, in the Macleod area of Melbourne.

The couple discovered the blaze spreading rapidly through the back of their home, destroying part of the inside of their house and some of the roof.

Mick Smith, a commander for Melbourne's Metropolitan fire service, said the rabbit had been responsible for rescuing Mr and Mrs Finn. "The rabbit saved the couple from injury," he said.

He said it took four fire crews to extinguish the blaze, which caused substantial damage. The rabbit and its owners were unhurt.

I guess this is a vote for leaving your bunny out of the enclosure at night. Ours couldn't warn us, as she is too mischievous to leave unsupervised. I'm thinking twice about that now...
