Not Taking Any Crap!

![]() The calendar has turned its page to Thanksgiving week. It is time to pause a moment and reflect on the many blessings we have received. I realize that these are tough times economically however while our wallets may be less ful let us remember that we may still be "rich" with the things that really matter - friends, family, love in our hearts, a roof over our head, and respect for our fellow man.
I especially have much to be thankful for on Thanksgiving. In fact my story once appeared on the front page of the local section of the Atlanta Journal & Constitution on Thanksgiving of 2000. While some of the info is outdated the story is not and I want to share. Quote:

Awesome opening post, BD!
![]() It is good to remember things for which we are grateful. My family. My friends. The 'net which allows me to communicate easily with said friends. My hound. My kitty. I have a job. My husband, for whom I am also grateful, has a job. My relationship lets me be myself. I have a house. I live in a city where I generally feel safe. Thank you to the universe which has taken such good care of me.

Thanks for sharing your story, BD- it's remarkable, inspiring and means a lot to me as the parent of a great kid who's faced some challenges in her life early on as well. I'm pretty proud of her, and your parents must feel the same way about you. Everyone deals with adversity in their lifetime, but some just get it out of the way sooner. I think in some ways those people are lucky- they learn early on what are the truly important things in life, they don't waste time on negatives, and they live their lives with more appreciation of the simple things like friendship, family and love.
I have a lot to be thankful for. I'm thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful for my country, and especially thankful that this election year delivered us back to what I consider sanity. (Or something close to that). I hope to be thankful for true equality for all men and women of this nation, and I am thankful for all who work toward that end. I am especially thankful for my girl- she's just an awesome kid and I am eternally grateful for her presence in my life. I really am blessed. |

Above all else, I'm thankful for the gift of time...time with both the hubby when his health has given me more than one white hair over the last few years and even more ....the gift of Missy in my life for however much longer we get...it was way to close to being over and I just wasn't ready for it to be, no parent should ever have to bury a child...so while I am thankful for having the means to provide a roof and meals and entertainment we all enjoy none of those would matter without the people most important to share it with.
