*MAJOR SPOILERS* The "Harry Potter Series Inconsistancies & Oopses" Thread.

Hi there Harry Fans,

FINALLY, the Stoat has finished the whole series of books (as have I) and we have noted some Oopses in there, and one that threw us for a real loop.

There WILL be spoilers as to the whole storyline, so anyone who hasn't read ALL the books, properly warned ye be. DON"T READ UNLESS YOU HAVE FINISHED ALL THE BOOKS got that ?

I will start our observations in Post two, so as not to startle those 'main menu mouse hoverers' amongst us with unwanted revelations. Stoat will continue with a grab-bag of other observations.

Have fun !

OK - we just noticed this when we watched Chamber Of Secrets:

1) You can kill a Horcrux using the Sword Of Gryffindor or a Basilisk Fang or the Avada Kedavra curse.
2) Harry is a Horcrux
3) The Diary Horcrux got stabbed with a Basilisk fang and was rendered inoperative - MouldyVort also went Kablooey at the same time (and looked uncomfortable in the process) HOWEVER.....
4) Harry got stabbed with a Basilisk Fang in COS
5) MouldyVort Jr didn't bat an eyelid when that happened, and Harry didn't get "De-Horcruxed" when it happened. and this happened BEFORE the diary !!

What Tha ????

Dear All,

Let me start by saying that I think J.K.Rowling is an awesome writer, and that her contribution to fictional literature has been monumental – it actually got people reading (myself included) and that surely is to be admired by the most die-hard.

As Bear has said, we have both finally finished the book series, and we can now discuss the myriad details contained in the saga.

The first OMG moment happened when we re-watched the Chamber of Secrets. I nearly fell out of my chair when Harry copped the Basilisk tooth with no ill effect to Voldemort, despite Harry’s horcrux status, yet the Diary, stabbed minutes later caused all hell to break loose. At the very least, Harry should have been freed from his status as horcrux (as he eventually was by the “AK” spell toward the end). Please keep in mind, the Basilisk tooth was a sure-fire horcrux slayer (even the Sword of Gryffindor had ties to the Basilisk).

It was inevitable that the most glaring plot flaws would appear toward the end. Here is another that hit me hard:
  • Voldemort orders Regulus Black (then Death Eater) to supply him with a house elf (Kreacher) so that he can test the protection on the Locket horcrux in the lake.
  • Kreacher is forced to go through the whole ordeal, drinking the liquid in the basin, and ends up floundering in the lake with the Inferi, who he subsequently escapes by disapparating.
  • At a later time, Regulus (who, on a number of occasions is referred to as Kreacher’s favourite Master) uses Kreacher’s knowledge to steal the Locket…both of them go to the lake.
  • Given this, why didn’t Kreacher:
a). describe all of the lake’s traps to Regulus in detail? He wished to help his Master, so he'd have spared no detail.

b). offer to drink the liquid instead of allowing his beloved Master from doing so, given that the house elf had already survived the trap previously and escaped unscathed.

c). pack/conjure a bottle of water so his Master wouldn’t have to drink from the lake, and so avoid the Inferi?

This is just the first of several *ouch* moments – but by far and away, the Harry-Horcrux-Basilisk tooth is going to be very hard to explain when the “Deathly Hallows” hits the screen.

Love and hugs,

The Stoat XXX.

In POA, Hermione says that a werewolf can only respond to the call of their own kind. The werewolf-ized Lupin in POA responded to Hermione doing a werewolf call in the distance. But Hermione isn't a werewolf... which made me think she might be revealed to be one in a later book... but wasn't.
