Hotels near Coachella
I know some of you rent a house out there, but my friend and I are looking for a clean place to stay for Stagecoach in April. Never been out there.
Any suggestions, or places to avoid? |

Depending on how many of you are going I'd seriously consider renting a house - Unfortunately, this is the time when the hotels tend to jack up their rates, so it may well be the best priced option. Alas my favorite place, the Beat Hotel is no more. Reading the Coachella boards, I'd avoid the Indio Motel 6 despite it's proximity.

There are only 2 of us right now.
If you have any links for house rentals though, that would be handy. |

You'll get better hotel deals staying in Palm Springs/Palm Desert/Desert Hot Springs/Cathedral City than in Indio. It means a little bit longer drive in the morning to get to the festival (20-30 minutes), but it can be a big $ saver.
Hotels we've stayed at: Motel 6: We stayed at the one in Palm Springs on E. Palm Canyon Drive (that's opposed to the one on S. Palm Canyon Drive. They're practically within walking distance of each other). It functioned perfectly well as a room with 4 walls and a bed for cheap. Extended Stay America: Near the Palm Springs Airport. I'm torn on this one. It was a good price and the hotel was fine. However this is the place that, on Hotels.com, the description claimed "separate living and sleeping areas" when in fact it's just a hotel room with a kitchenette in the entrance way. The hotel claimed to not know anything about it, but here it is 6 months after I bitched, loudly, to both the hotel and hotels.com and the description remains. So I don't hold them in much regard in terms of ethics right now. Lawrence Welk Desert Resort: This is a big community of timeshare condos that are also rented out hotel-style. We got a good price on it one year. Since they're condos, it's a bedroom with a separate living room w/sofa bed and a kitchen. Great choice if you can get a deal. We've found that having a kitchen in your room is key. Saves a lot of time and money to be able to cook your own breakfast vs. dealing with a restaurant. There are smaller houses for rent, though the price doesn't always scale down linearly with house size (i.e., it may not be as good of a deal to split a 2 bedroom house between 2 people as it is to split a 4 bedroom house between 4). But the agencies we've rented through are: http://www.vacationpalmsprings.com/ http://www.palmspringsrentals.com/ http://www.homeaway.com

GD~ I have no stock in Extended Stay, but, I wonder if it is because you stayed in a two person room? At the Marriott Residence Inn, when we get a room for just 2/3 people, we get a room like that. But, when we have more people, we do get a seperate living room/kitchen from the bedroom. It does cost more and depending on what I want to spend, I sometimes just opt for the smaller room.
Just curious. I do agree that it is misleading and they should explain it, if this is the case. Or, fix it if it isn't. Sounds like fun, BTD! I hope you find the perfect place!

They cover their ass by saying that, while it says it in the summary of the hotel, if you look at the details of the room description it's not mentioned. Utter B.S. It's essentially saying this: 1) This hotel has rooms with separate living and sleeping areas. 2) This hotel has only one type of room. 3) Well, the room description doesn't say it has a separate living and sleeping area, so you're s.o.l

Ah....good to know. Usually, you can be assured that a hotel by a chain would be similar but I am learning NOT! I have my favs and hate when I have to stay somewhere else. So glad that the swanky people here can give such varied advice!! Seems everyone has been somewhere!

I recall being very disappointed at the lack of Lawrence Welk music in the lobby.
