When I was young (under 10), we did not have a tree topper (don't know why). So I decided to make one. I cut a star out of cardboard, glued tin foil to it (both sides), made something to be able to place it on top of the tree (wrapped foil around my finger to make a vase-like thing) which I glued to the star and voila: our new tree topper!
To this day, my Mother STILL puts that on top of her tree every year.

Oooh, Google's gone and spiffed up the Street View interface. Nice.
Street View came in very handy recently when I couldn't remember the name or exact location of a restaurant, but knew within a couple miles where it was and what the building looks like. Found it no problem.

You need a dog like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoagUtDqFXA). Not only does he GET the beer, he puts the can in the recycling bin when you're done. :D

Congratulations!
I won our office chili contest two years ago (or was it three?) with Jennifer's World-Famous Turkey Chili:
JEN’S BLACK BEAN & TURKEY CHILI
Yield: 10 to12 servings
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, 3 turns of the pan
2 1/2 pounds ground turkey (2 packages)
4 tablespoons dark chili powder
1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons grill seasoning blend, any brand
1 tablespoon cumin
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 to 3 tablespoons hot sauce, medium to extra-spicy
1 large onion (diced)
2 large red Bell Peppers (diced)
1 can Ro-Tel tomatoes with green chilies (well drained)
2 cans Black Beans (rinsed and drained)
1/2 bottle beer, about 1 cup
1 (14oz) can tomato sauce
1/2 cup barbecue sauce (smoky if you got it)
2 cups roasted corn kernels
1 can diced jalapenos
Heat a large pan over medium to medium high heat. Add extra-virgin olive oil, 3 turns of the pan, and the turkey meat. Season the meat with: chili powder, red pepper flakes, grill seasoning, cumin, Worcestershire and hot sauce. Break up the meat with the back of a wooden spoon into small crumbles. Brown meat 5 minutes, then transfer the browned meat to large a pot.
Sauté onions and chopped bell peppers until softened and most of the water has cooked out. Add the sautéed onions, peppers, Ro-Tel tomatoes and black beans to the cooked turkey and cook for about 10 minutes. Add the half bottle of beer, scraping up the drippings and cooking off the alcohol. Add the tomato sauce and barbecue sauce and bring to a bubble. Add roasted corn kernels and jalapenos and let chili simmer for about 20 minutes. Adjust seasonings and heat level to your taste. Remove from heat and serve.

My basketball season is now officially finished. While that doesn't make me happy, how it ended does. Three weeks ago, we got DESTROYED by 24, and in the last game of the season the same team came to our place undefeated at 18-0 (we were 14-4 at that point), and we beat them by 3. VERY satisfying, as they were very cocky.
We ended 15-4, beating ourselves in two of our losses (lost by 2 after getting down 18-4, lost another by 2 after digging a 17-4 hole).
Good season, all in all.

My Dad just got his driver's license.
That doesen't seem like a huge deal. But over the last couple of years, he nearly died from a bacterial infection, had a minor stroke, suffered from macular degeneration (exacerbated by the stroke which affected his vision), and lost a leg to diabetes.
The fact that he's now healthy enough, and has good enough vision, to have passed the driving exam again is cause for celebration. And a testament to the magic of modern medicine.

I sent him an email right away and also called, and he's willing to try me out on an upcoming project of his in another week!
The pay range is $250-$500 per 1-3 mock-ups, depending on complexity. If the client approves the first mock-up, then the work is done, and full pay is still received.

Honda CR-V EX, Glacier Blue, moonroof, 6 disc changer, full airbags, 5 star safety ratings, tire pressure sensor, vehicle stability assist, ultra low emissions, and lots and lots of awesomeness.
My first new car! :) It's going to be hard to continue biking to work!
My husband is awesome, btw. I was definitely the woman in the equation. He dealt wonderfully with the dealer.

My husband is awesome, btw. I was definitely the woman in the equation. He dealt wonderfully with the dealer.
Dude was so intimidated, that he accepted my first offer before I even finished giving it to him (seriously...they're that desperate).
Although I'm still kinda bummed I didn't get to go back and haggle with the douche bag Toyota dealer we saw first. "I've sold so many cars today. I'm so busy. I've got someone coming in right after you. See? Here's their contract [pointing at bullsh*t papers he pulled out of a drawer], but they've got a cosigner so... But anyway, you go anywhere and you'll see the same price for this car." Total scumbag, transparent ass. Would have loved to have played the game with him.
I also am kicking myself for being so dumbfounded that the Honda guy made my first offer for me and I took it. If it hadn't taken me so off guard I might have though to come back with a lower offer. But I can't complain, we got a good deal.

I'm very proud of myself today. After having misc computer issues (BSOD's) for the last 2 weeks or so, everything pointed to the mobo going bad.
I've changed out all sorts of parts before but never the whole motherboard. Luckily, we had the same model (but the "deluxe" edition of it) in a spare box I'd been using for various parts.
After some hesitation, calling for help that wasn't available, getting told 3-5 days from our off site computer help, I went digging and found the book for it - which had the diagram with the one part I couldn't figure out.
Ta-Da! Fired up and I'm back baby!

Right on cue I spotted this morning a sprout in the basil patch, and several in the lettuce. Hopefully more basil should be appearing in short order, with the parsley and carrots a few days behind.

Being a busy on-the-go kinda guy, when I go shopping for basil, there's only one place I'll buy it from: Delight Farms. In this current economic climate, it's the smart choice. So the next time you're at your local grocery store, look for the name you can trust: Delight Farms Basil.

Cool spot! With super clean tables and a bright skylight overhead and big beefy guys all tatted up, if you like that sort of thing.
John had one of their burgers and I tried their fish 'n' chips. Great!
I asked our cashier how often Jesse ate there and she told me "about every day. As a matter of fact, he just left about thirty minutes ago."

While I'm sad to have missed out on the Lashness of the last week/weekend, I am pretty freakin' happy about how mine went. I am feeling so relaxed now that I got to just take some time off without obligation. I got to see family, I got a passing grade at the dentist, and I got to sit around and enjoy myself and not feel like there was some chore or other obligation I should have been attending to. And I even get today to recover from it all.
I am so relaxed right now it's freaking me out. I don't do relaxed very well. You may have noticed this about me. In fact, I'm feeling so relaxed that it's making me kind of anxious. But mostly I'm just relaxed. Really really relaxed.

Total Cholesterol was good: HDL (Good Cholesterol) was high (good) and LDL (Low Cholesterol) was low (good)
Blood pressure was normal
No signs of diabetes (a worry of mine along with the Cholesterol)
PSA numbers were good
HIV and Hep-C freeHe said it is normal to find a weird out of limit result that is irrelevant, but I didn't even have one of those.

Zach and I are going to have a busy week. Tonight at the library in the next town they are having a Holocaust survivor give a talk. he sounds like a fascinating man and it will be a good first hand education for the boy on the atrocities of man. He's actually pretty excited, I didn't even tell him we'll go out for churros afterward!
Later in the week we go to Portland for the Shanghai Tunnel Tour under Portlands city streets. Zachs' teacher is even our group leader, so that should be a blast, and it's another cool piece of history for us to learn about. Hopefully someday we'l make it back for the haunted tunnel tour too!
There is also a Disney outlet temporary store up there so I figure we'll hit that while we're there too. Gary is hoping we'll stick around and go out for dinner with him since he's working up there.
Then it's bday weekend for us.
I think it should be a great week, a little tiring but lots of fun and educational too!

I think my interview went well today. I won't know for sure till next week or later, but my read on it is positive.
What I'm not sure about is whether it'll be for a regular barista position, or if I'll get a shift lead position. She did say that she was looking to bring in a little maturity to the team, as many of her workers are in their early 20's and that other stores are often mostly teens. So I guess that'll work in my favor. She was telling me something about how there are a few stores in the area, each possibly needing to fill only a few extra hours, so of course I said that'd be no issue. But I'm really encouraged that she went into that much detail with me, because it sounds like she's at least considering me to fill it.
Basically, she said I'd hear something next week, either just letting me know she hasn't forgotten me, or possibly a call for a 2nd interview with the mgr of another store, or something.
If I can at least get some management experience, it'll totally be worth the drop in pay from my last position.

Goonie, definitely would be good to get a management spot. Good luck!
D- congratulations on the side project! Of course they love you!

And...... the firm loves me more already!
I've already been offered another project, starting tomorrow. I'll actually meet my "boss" and his client at his office. Apparently, it's a "huge" project, and he thinks I'll be perfect for it.
:D

Here's a teaser of my upcoming cruise site (hopefully your Flash plug-ins are up-to-date):
http://www.totaldynamicstudios.com/cruise/cruise.html
It's just the homepage - no links are active... yet, since the other pages are still quite the work in progress. It will be an interactive multi-media experience. :D
One proud thing to note: I made that porthole frame for the slideshow. Oh, and if any of you read nautical flags... ;)
I'm making this for my web design class final project. If I have the time, I might even make a Flash-based game for it too.

Very nice site, and cool use of the nautical flags :)
I used to have my name spelled out in those somewhere...

That's a fantastic layout.
What's the ghosty image behind the links? Looks like some kind of Mickey?

What's the ghosty image behind the links? Looks like some kind of Mickey? That's the underwater statue in Castaway Cay. I composited that with the background in a gradient to make it feel underwater without being distracting. He shows up better on the other pages. :)
Thanks for the feedback! :)

I won a drawing at work for tickets to Classical Mystery Tour (http://www.classicalmysterytour.com/main/index.htm) at Segerstrom Concert Hall. Not something I'd go out of my way to see, but it sounded like a good time and worth the price of free.
Then I saw the face value of the box seat tickets and seriously considered selling them. But the winner of the other two tickets in the box is a VP, and I don't know if it'd be considered bad etiquette to sell company box seats on Ebay. Plus, I took a look at an image of the venue, and the seat location, and suddenly I'm pretty excited to go. Not often I get the opportunity to put on my best suit and be fancy for an evening:

I still spell out my name in nautical flags. Its the most complicated signature ever. The UPS man hates coming to see me.

My honey found my wallet!!!!!!! I thought I'd lost it but it was in the couch. I am so glad. I've already replaced my Drivers' Licence, my ATM card, and two credit cards, but I am still glad to get it back. 1- I liked this particular wallet. 2- I had a lot of stuff in it. 3- Nobody else has my stuff to steal me.
Whew!
