This probably belongs in the quote thread, but it somehow seems appropriate at this juncture:

"Alcohol is like love. The first kiss is magic, the second is intimate, the third is routine. After that you take the girl’s clothes off."
Raymond Chandler (from The Long Goodbye)

Alas, the problem with that is the fact once you walk out those wonderful Disneyland gates that have been open for 50 years.. Good luck getting back in...

So, let's say the hit capacity at around 11 AM, folks still show up and get in line with their AP's and ParkHoppers (Disney would have cut off sales by then, or like they did during the Christmas holidays, sell you a DCA ticket, and then allow you into Disneyland later in the day, after some folks have left DL).

You leave at 2 PM to grab a drink in DtD, then head to the hotel, crash for a couple of hours, then head back to the Main Entry Plaza.... Now there is a LONG line of folks still waiting to get in for the first time (and those DCA folks who now can enter DL), and you are behind all those folks, waiting for guests to leave DL, since basically the way it will work, 500 folks leave the park, 500 folks in line will be allowed in...)

July 17th is NOT a day for bars and hotel rooms

But it is THE day to celebrate DL's 50th
(and not any of the other parks!

Hmmmm, good question - but I expect there will be some - the anticipation is part of the fun

Dare I say this? - I do not expect DL to hit capacity on July 17.

There are geeks-a-plenty, but our community is still a small one park-attendence-wise

See May 5th, all 4 AP types are valid, but since it is a mid week day during normal school period, even with all the advertising, I think the attendance will be about 40 to 50 thousand...

Now, July 17th...

A Sunday during peak summer.

The Disney owned hotels are already sold out.

The only AP that is valid is the Premium, though I presume that many AP holders will buy a blockout pass.

Much advertising, starting with the May 5th event...

The ACTUAL 50th anniversary.

The big keys, is SUNDAY and JULY, a day that normally gets around 50,000+ without any type of special event, now all we need to add is about 25,000 more to create a sellout...

And lets see, last I heard, there are around 600,000 DLR AP holders, if just 10% show up, we are already over capacity once you add the summer vacationers with their ParkHoppers....

I will be REALLY surprised if it doesn't hit capacity... Heck, I think DLR hit capacity 3 times during the Christmas Holidays, and could have had a few more capacity days if it wasn't for the weather... And that is without anything more special than days off school, and a special parade and fireworks....

I would be prepared....

MAYBE - if they have a special event like the 25th or 30th - but Staturdays are still more popular than Sundays.

600K APs - and how big is the "real" geek community? Personally, I peg it at 5K max

But I'll bet you a cocktail at Cove (at a latter date of course) if DL hits capacity without some ort of special 24 hour event on that day.

You have a bet, sir!!!!

But if there is a special event, then all bets are off, we can have a Dutch treat instead at the Cove Bar.... or maybe sweettalk the Bartenders into one

If Disneyland did not hit capacity on the 30th or 35th, when they hyped the birthday much more with all-year-long car giveaways, then I don't for a minute think it will hit capacity on the 50th.

Disneyland does not promote July 17. Plain and simple, there's no money in it. They promote the 50th Year, and they will promote it most at DisneyWorld. They are not interested in people coming for that day; they want increased attendance for 18 months.

Whatever happens, I have no intention of altering my tried and true Disneyland Birthday pattern of morning in the Park, hot & crowded afternoon at the hotel room, and back in the Park between 7 and 8pm for the remainder of the night. I have a really hard time believing that I won't be able to get back in the park at 8pm.

In any case, I'll chance it. I'm not springing for a suite at the Disneyland Hotel so that I can stay inside Disneyland during its hottest and most crowded times of the day.
