I'm looking forward to the inevitable 2-3 hour fan edit that combines the best of parts 2 and 3 and jettisons the rest. If the World's End DVD comes out right after Thanksgiving, I'll bet the fan edit turns up by late January. That's going to be the "repeat viewing" version.

I'm frankly surprised so many here to seem to have liked it. I don't put all that much stock in critics, but I tend to read them with an ear towards agreements with my particular tastes ... and I think I would agree with the critcs rather than most of the Swankers.
Alas. I'm not putting this in spoiler tags ... because, HA, I haven't even seen the movie. And, from what I understand (and why I am commenting on it), it's not even in the movie! (But be warned, I'm spoiler-talking in the next paragraph). So many people seem confused about Will's fate as master of the Flying Dutchman. From what I understand, the scene(s) which better explained his fate were cut, and most people don't understand that, as long as Elizabeth is waiting for him on land when he returns in 10 years, his tenure as ferryman to the dead is over. It seems a lot of people are getting the impression Will can visit Elizabeth on land once every 10 years, but is master of the Flying Dutchman for eternity. Being that it's the resolution of the series' main love story, I think it's quite an important point to get across. I've heard half a dozen people go from being pissed at the ending of the film when seeing it, to loving the end of the film once this is explained. I find it a major fault of the filmmakers if this point is unclear to the audience. |

Ok but if the Flying Dutchman must always have a captain, then if Will gets out because Elizabeth is waiting who the heck is the captain?

OMG, don't tell me the pulled-out-of-the-ass Pirates mythology has holes???!
![]() Recalling that, in Pirates 1, Barbossa is shot before the gold piece is returned to the chest - and therefore he should be unaffected by the deadly shot (sparing the audience the subsequent absurdity of him dropping an apple in his death throes that he wasn't holding in the first place). |

I didnt know that till Eliza said it yesterday, and had been feeling unfulfilled by the ending. I would have left feeling much better had I known that tidbit.

If that is the true significance of the ending (and without it in the movie it isn't) - what Eliza said - then what would happen to the "the Dutchman must have a captain" thing?
