Did you ever see the big Union 76 oil storage tank that they made to look like a pumpkin every year? I don't remember exactly where it was, but somewhere in the Long Beach/Wilmington area if I remember correctly.

I've always dug them as is but this idea has come to my mind as well. Lately, I've been thinking more about the newer phenomenon of cell towers. Now THERE is a way artists could beautify the landscape in a utilitarian way. Instead, we have those awful fake trees that not only look horrible when new, but fade within a year to even worse states of ugliness. They don't need to be expensive sculptures, just eye-pleasing ones. I'm almost irked enough to start a movement...

It's an overused turn of phrase, but - I have always had a fascination with power lines, especially the tall metal structures for long distance wires. When we visited Vegas recently I tried to capture some of these on the way. Some have a tiny bit of photoshop manipulation but mostly they're just cropped. Very cool. For some reason I can't quite place, I really dig the last one. Maybe it's because it sort of resembles the outline of a GIANT ROBOT FACE.

I don't know. It's just...pretty and geometric and nifty.
