The only knock I have against the Terracotta Warriors exhibit is that I don't think they did a good job of portraying the sense of scale. It wasn't until the very end of the exhibit where they had a large print of one of the National Geographic images showing the army in place that you got any idea of how truly massive it was. It does a great job of showing the detailed artistry, but it misses the mark on driving home that this isn't just detailed artistry, but detailed artistry on an unmatched and almost unimaginable scale.

Actually, one more knock against it is that the layout created a massive bottleneck at the start of the exhibit. Really poor planning.

That's too bad, but I still want to see it. I have long considered getting a degree in Museum Studies, because the idea of being involved with exhibits - especially of an historical nature, is just mind blowingly cool to me. And warrior stuff= the best of all. I love art and armor. LOVE IT.

do you folks know if this is a touring show like the dead sea scrolls? I looked around briefly and couldnt see any info on the display coming down here to SD.

I've made a few pieces and won a couple of ribbons at the LA County Fair. We have barrister's bookcase and a custom designed table for behind our reclining couch. I have built a butcher block partially out of recycled wood (they were 14" lengths of 1-1/4" x 3" Eastern Hard-Rock Maple wood that I did a sliding dovetail joint to create the legs: that was a PITA).

I also built a kitchen island table for a friend that she loved so much that she had her cabinets re-faced to match the table.

I built a breakdown queen-size bed that we take to SCA events (actually built three of them and sold the other two to friends).

I have also built some other items (book cases, shadow boxes, frames). Sorry, no pictures to post.

Come up and see us and we can all go! The other places the article mentioned it being were on the East Coast, so I don't know if this show will continue to tour or not. I want to see this so badly I may go ASAP, myself, but I think it'd be worth seeing twice.

I learned long ago, after seeing Ramses II as an 8 year old, that some things really are priceless.

The Captain's Cabin on the original Queen Elizabeth (not to be confused with the QE2) was paneled in wood from medieval oak bridge pilings taken from the Thames. It was reported to be a beautiful silver color with black grain. Unfortunately, it was all destroyed when the ship burned in 1972.

I keep forgetting you are in the SCA! Know any heavy fighters? I'd like to get back into it.

We are more just hangers on: we go to hang out with our friends. We are not actually members of SCA. Since we don't get involved with the battles, there is no need to join (I wouldn't want to be a member of any club that would have me as a member ).

Imperial Banner War is this weekend at Featherly Park in Yorba Linda. This is a pretty small Adrian Empire event (not SCA). The other event we go to every year is the Spring Potrero War.

If you want to get hooked up with the SCA, let me know and I will get you some contacts.
