It's not a big space. I could understand crowd control. But what an odd way to say 'please wait until some guests leave so there's more room.'

Perhaps she was afraid you would use up all of the oxygen in the room, causing the guests to pass out. Then she wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the oxygen deprived guests and the ones gazing lethargically at the display.
