I recently purchased the first season of 'Fantasy Island' on DVD. I buy a lot of movies/dvds and rarely actually watch any of them.

From the first disc, I was engrossed and curled up in bed and watched show after show. At least one per night, usually two.

I used to watch F.I. when it came out, a lifetime ago. I loved his character and I fascinated watching him.

He will definitely be missed.

I'm sure he was a wonderful person but for me and my circle he was a symbol of schlock. I didn't know anybody at the time who would admit to liking Fantasy Island and while we all enjoyed Wrath of Khan his was a more comic character than I think was intended.

He, Captain Stubing, and Mr. T are, for me, the Trinity of bad TV from my childhood.

By Mark Evanier shared a pretty cool story about him yesterday.

Yeah. And he never said "Rich Corinthian leather" either. That's just a misquote.

I know pretty clearly that my post said that I indeed did like him. In the day. Even recently.

I don't care for Mr. T.. Capt. Stubing was a lukewarm character. Likeable but boring.

Back in the day, I don't recall discussing t.v. with peers. It was more something I enjoyed with my family.

I know people liked the show. I was talking about among my cohort at the time (Washignton Elementary school, mostly boys, in Vancouver, Washington).

I used to babysit every Saturday night and watched Fantasy Island religiously! I didn't care if I missed the Love Boat but the boys knew they had to be in bed before FI.
I'm glad to hear he was as nice and genuine in real life too, that's how I imagined him.

OMG I don't know what is more scary, that I can't think of what year the show was on or how old I was when it was on.....wishing it was elementary but I doubt it....

cirquelover~ I'm also glad to hear he was a nice man. He seemed like a real gentleman.

My parents had a Blue T-Top sunroof of this car. The windows didn't have the safety features that cars do now. My arm swelled up like a grapefruit because my mother didn't know I was resting it there.

Not too mention the Sunroof always leaked. The front end would raise up when we would "floor it" Not one of Chrysler's finest moments.

Sorry too see "Khan" go. May he rest in peace.
