Ok, that's fine. Was thrown off by the "then" in your post which implied that otherwise your view would be different.

I've never understood society's desire to help only those people they see on the news. (Whether women who whelp litters while the foster mom taking in 8 kids gets no extra help or a specific dog that survives a fire while dozens more go unwanted at the same shelter or providing food to the homeless on one single day a year.)
