Leo, neither of these are comparable. Show me someone on the left who has gone on a shooting spree in response to a general political climate that they do not agree with. Show me someone who went on a shooting spree over something they feared Bush was doing (whether or not their fear had any basis in fact).

That's what happens when you use every opportunity to entice fear, and when you have people like Rep Michele Bachmann calling for armed revolution, is it any wonder that the loonies on the fringe think they are being given sound advice?

I disagree that he went on a rampage due to the current political climate. That seems like but one cog in the wheel of his disturbed being. I think there are those who want it to be because of right wing paranoia to suit political purposes.

Nothing in the article you linked to supports the idea that this guy did what he did because Obama was elected.

Near as I can tell there have been three mass killings of police officers since Obama was elected and in only one has an overt political reason been given.

So, at this point I'd suggest your premise is BS.

Looking at the spree killings in general in recent months the biggest connector to them all would appear to be having recently lost ones job.

I agree that the premise, based on the scant information in the news report, is unfounded. If this guy was angry, armed, and believed the government was against him, I suspect he was unhinged well before Barack Obama was elected. That said election was an aggravating factor seems a reasonable conclusion, but did right-wing ideology drive an otherwise normal person to murderous lunacy? In this specific case, not enough information to go on, but I doubt it.

For what it's worth, I am acquainted with a (presently jailed) person who spouts disturbing radical right ideas now, but years ago, spouted radical left ideology, and has showed violent tendencies throughout his life.

I have a family full of Limbaugh-loving, Obama-distrusting, very right wing conservatives, and they are all open, warm, rational people who are just as horrified by such violence as I am. (And yes, they are sure that left wing ideology leads to nihilism, renunciation of rights, maybe even genocide. How my eyes roll.)

Where did I say that everyone on the right is violent and unhinged? You're discounting my position by reading more into my words than what i'm saying.

There has been a dramatic increase in violent speech and action on the part of the unstable right fringe. People who are already unstable are lashing out violently. I believe that their frustration over the current political climate is a major factor.
