I think a guys' night out is perfectly appropriate prior to a wedding.

Having been a Best Man a couple of times and also having gone to several "Bachelor Parties" I'd say that 1; he should organize a get together and 2; it should be a "community paid" affair, meaning everyone chips in, because ultimately, the party is both a celebration of a dear friend's coming happy day, and a night out with the guys in honor of the groom-to-be's approaching nuptials and the implied "end to social life" (even if there won't actually be such an end) that comes along with that. It's just part of the celebration surrounding weddings, which begin long before the actual day, kind of like how the Christmas season is more than just December 25th. I always love to attend "bachelor" parties and take part in the festivities. A wedding is a celebratory occasion, and this part is how the men celebrate it amongst themselves. So send them out to do what they do, but yes, the hat should be passed and all but the groom should pitch in.

Why, yes. Shortly after the honeymoon we are all required to be castrated. Haven't you heard?

Well, what most people think of is "the typical bachelor party". And if you claim it's nothing more than a guys night out in place of said event, could it not become more (or emagined to be more) than what the bride may be comfortable with? I've known celebrating guys to get out of hand before, but that was them.

That said, I suppose it is dependant on the relationship the lucky bride and groom have, and the respect the friends have for them. I would hope that any happy couple could have a girls or guys night out at anytime. And as such, the costs are shared. And if that's what they do, and they aren't getting carried away, I see no harm. Perhaps I'm being too carefull of the brides feeling.....

I wish the best for the upcomming nuptuals!
