I'm going to guess: Because they wanted the piano to be somewhere other than where it was. But it is just a guess.

Ya know, I actually did that once. When I was in college, we were moving from one rental house to another right down the street. I actually moved everything that was too big to fit in my tiny car (bed, dresser, etc.) on my skateboard.
