Hating your present situation can be just the motivation needed to make some big changes, if you choose to.

About 12 years ago, I was in a bad situation with my job. The frustration of supporting some 120 users in 17 offices over 4 counties by myself was killing me slowly. I could expect my pager to start going off around 6 in the morning and sometimes it wouldn't stop until after 11PM. The software vendor we were using had a lock in our industry because there was just NO competition. I decided I'd had enough of these complacent a__holes and decided to give them a little of that sorely needed competition.

Long story short, after fighting me for nearly 5 years they eventually wound up buying me (well, my company anyway). That allowed me to move back closer to the people I love and not have to worry about what I'm gonna do for retirement.

I can't say my present situation is the land of milk and honey. Some days it sucks out loud. But it's nice to know I can cancel tomorrow due to "lack of interest"... or walk away from this place entirely... and not have to worry.

So go ahead and be depressed for a while, if you need to. Sometimes that's good if you can find a way to use it to your advantage.
