poetry of Capt Jack - Page 4

the dust in my mouth
has a bittersweet taste
face down in it
since the last moment I saw sunlight

we'd become old friends
the dust and I
but the time has come
for us to part company

a sucker punch I saw coming a mile away
lay me here seems nearly a hundred days past
bruised and bloodied, unconscious and unbelieving
it was a damn good fight

tooth and nail, toe to toe
eye to eye and heart to heart
we fought with all we had
to no avail

lost was the battle and thusly the war
waged by our own doing but not by our wish
there are no winners
only survivors

left now to pick themselves up
brush the sacred dust from their hands
look hard into the sun rising on a new day
and see what new fights lay in our path

that it was my friend. glad you enjoyed it. it was more a 'write it down, worry about prose later' sorta thing....

there'll be more. trust me...Im just full of it.

a lack of inspiration

the effervescent verse will not come this day
struggle as I might to find cause to bring them forth
wit and wisdom, mirth and tempo
lost now in the tempest of my mind and heart
no visions of a coming day call
no thought of the timeless sea ring
no meanings suffer unknown
no thought yearning to be free from the confines of my mind
shall find their way through me to these pages

perhaps again one day
