I have trouble understanding why this promotion would offend. It's lame, but offensive? I don't go to DL because I might get something. I go knowing it's going to freakin' cost me up the wazoo. It's all about promotions, so of course it's going to be the pretty picture perfect suburban family with chlildren smiling from ear to ear. I don't really care who wins what. I'm not counting on getting anything, although my family falls into that picture perfect suburban thing.

In fact, we may be coming over Christmas (nothing decided yet). Not because of a promotion. Because it's fun.

I think it's cool! I just thought it ironic (and a bit funny) that they got the park to themselves, but were accompanied by a thousand CMs and press.

But I would love to have the park to myself and family for 90 minutes (with no lines you could go on most of the rides in that time). And to be able to walk down an empty Main Street like that is so cool!

I can't see any real problem..

Of course I'm speaking as the head of a White nucelar family with two cute kids and a loving wife.....

Do you think I should add that to the entries I'm mailing in for the wishes contest?

And you know for sure it is rigged how? Please share!

Sure, there is a fair amount of the "Non-Disney-Like" families, or people going to the parks. Yes, and a lot of non-americans as well. But the majority is the typical family I would think. Could this contest be fixed? Sure. Could this "Typical" family winning be a coincidence, yes. Would Disney put thier necks out rigging a promo? I don't think so, but who knows?

While the standard special exerpience things like this are rigged and picked for photogenic qualities (such as the 80 billionth guest; first guest on the 50th anniversary, etc.) if this one is being run as a contest then there are very rigid state and federal laws that Disney has to comply with.

Now, if this thing wasn't one of the official prizes for the Year of a Million Dreams then I am absolutely confident that the family was picked for their demographic. If it is an official prize then I am reasonably confident that they were not.

I don't go to win prizes either, but if there's a contest ... I want as much chance to win as the other 40,000 people there on any given day.

(but that's never been in doubt, now has it? )

I'm still waiting to see the downside of this contest raise it's ugly head.

With attendance at just Disneyland and WDW-MK running around 30 Million guests/year that means you have no better than a 1-in-30 chance to win anything at all.

Which means that for every guest giddy at winning a free set of ears or a lanyard (woo hoo!) you will have at an absolute minimum 30 times that many guests who feel they (or worse their kids) got slighted by getting zippo.

At least with the 50th EVERYONE felt special and EVERYONE got the bling on the castle and EVERYONE saw the fireworks (or at least 1/2 a fireworks). Not just 1 in 30.

I don't view it as a contest. I view it as a promotion. Something completely different.

You know me- I like rigged contests. Like Florida 2000.

Just for clarification, that was a joke. I don't believe Florida 2000 was rigged and I don't want you evil people telling me that I said it was.
