How would you like to do a 700 MB DVD rip transfer in 0.8 seconds?
Or open all Microsoft Office Apps in a half second?
Open all 53 programs in your start menu in 18.09 seconds?
Does 2,000 MB per second transfer speeds excite you?

Meh, I like to take it slow. Preferably with Barry White background music.

Fun, but I'd rather have a Fusion-io ioDrive or two...

Quote:
Fusion-io's original ioDrive was stupid fast, but the next generation makes even that look pathetic. Try 1.5GB sustained read speeds and 1.4GB sustained write speeds. Yeah, let that sink in for a minute.

I am watching without sound. I skipped the build and went right to the OMG HE OPENED HOW MANY PROGRAMS??? part.

The demonstrations are jaw-dropping. Oh, how I wish for even a tiny part of that speed.

That would be STUPID expensive for those drives alone...

But I've got that Zalman 9700 heatsink/fan on one of my builds, and would LOVE to have a system with a ton of SSD goodness.

I tried to find pricing on the 256 GB models and struck out, but I did see that 128 GB models are in the $700-$800 range.

I've got 10,000 rpm Raptors and they don't even come close to the awesome that is SSD- maybe my next big build (which is now coming sooner than expected) - I'll probably RAID a few for the main drive, then use a big HD for storage only.

I'm not sure SSD's are ready for prime time just yet....

a new article over at PC Perspective that looks at Intel X25-M performance over a period of time shows that write speeds are dramatically reduced from everyday usage patterns. Average write speeds are shown to drop to half (40MB/s) or less in the worst cases, though the author does describe ways that users can recover some of the original drive speed using standard HDD testing tools."

Wouldn't an ultra-fast defrag help? At those speeds, I wouldn't mind defragging all the time.

From the linked article:

Quote:
There is currently no ‘easy’ way to defragment the sub-block level fragmentation that occurs as a result of write combining. In addition, we found that running the Windows defragmenter on the X25-M would rapidly Swiss Cheese the crap out of it, defeating the purpose entirely
