Physical pleasure could probably be distinguished from feeling good, as "I wanted to experience physical pleasure" specifies the physical, and "It feels good" could contain an emotional component (even if the emotion is exhilaration).
I do tend to agree that it's redundant, but that's at least a possible explanation.
