I tried come up with some use for the extra letters for, but was unable to (other than Newb, which really didn't seem to fit in this instance).

I think one of the hallmarks of good design are simple changes that bring new functions to every day objects....

Stop for a second and ask yourself how you might improve a bedside lamp and then look at this idea

Simple, elegant and useful not to mention costing next to nothing. That's good design.

Reminds me of a Carrot Top joke prop. And if you really need it (I'm apparently a freak in that I just remember where I was in books so don't generally use bookmarks at all) that lamp already has a bookmark function without the phallic addition. Two, by my count.

That will damage the spines of books. Not recommended, not good design!

Because the bookmark is too thick? Would it help if the lamp's "member" was ultra thin?

I'd say that would make it much more viable. Leaving it to hang there for a long period wouldn't be good regardless.

Most bookmarks today are awfully thick things and it constantly surprises me that people buy and use them. There are plush bookmarks, for crying out loud. Those metal wedge ones aren't much better. If it's your own book it's your own problem, I guess, though I try to treat mine well.

I know what you mean. It's so much easier to just fold over the pages.

Or just tear off the pages you've already read, and throw them out. You don't need them anymore.

That takes too much effort, you can always just set it face down on the table open to your page.....
