Funny, when I clicked the link it said Obit Storm, and I assumed it was an article about how many deaths there had been

What hype? Until recently, I was not even aware of what these little pills could do to someone's heart. I am quite sure I am not alone.

What caught my eye about the Gale Storm article was that it actually used the word "oater," which I've never seen outside of a crossword puzzle.

I don't know about the media hype. I don't seem to be getting much of it at all. Then again, I stopped watching most television news years ago, somehow I still manage to know what's going on from the internet. My DVR keeps me from seeing most commercial breaks on the shows I watch, and, try as I may to find a radio station in L.A. playing MJ's music, it's just not there. Since I don't generally listen to commercial radio, save the occasional 10 minutes on the AM news stations, again, I'm not being bombarded. I love my ipod for exactly that reason. I can download the podcasts that are interesting to me, and the rest of the time I have 8,000 some-odd pieces of music to listen to. What do they say, "There are no victims, only volunteers?" I know my TV has an off button.

well, you probably need to try to watch Australian TV without the aid of DVR one time and see how many newsbreaks about him there are, and how many references to him people in other tv shows are making. I expect to see stuff about him if I'm watching the news, but not in other programs.

Um, WHAT? No DVR? That really is a barbaric country you've got down there.

Another (minor) celebrity death: Fred Travelena - I remember him mostly from talk show appearances in the 70s and 80s, but he was a good impressionist.

I wonder if he kept the big '70s hair.

As to Billy Mays, I think I'm having the same reaction I had when Steve Irwin died: "He was so very young, so very loud and so very ON TV. How could this sloppy, real life thing happen?"
