Porn industry seeks own stimulus ... package
Adult industry titans say economy has made Americans ‘go limp’

Seems everyone is lining up for a government handout, but in the case of the porn industry, you may wonder where the hands have been

TMZ is reporting that Hustler's Larry Flynt and "Girls Gone Wild" creator Joe Francis are asking for a $5 billion federal bailout of adult entertainment because "the economy has made America's appetite for sex go limp."

From what I heard, they added him. They figured it was a bureaucratic mix-up, that they should have been told about him. He said he was a transfer from another precinct, and apparently nobody called to check on it.

One of the reporters talking about it said it was amazing he fooled all the officers. Talking to officers, they generally know who is one of them, and who is not. Except here.

Newly discovered catfish species climbs rocks
Fish's pelvic fin decouples from body and moves backward and forward

A previously unknown species of climbing catfish has been discovered in remote Venezuela, and its strange traits are shaking the evolutionary tree for these fish.

The newfound catfish, Lithogenes wahari, shares traits with two different families of fish — Loricariidae (armored catfishes) and Astroblepidae (climbing catfishes). It has bony armor that protects its head and tail, and a grasping pelvic fin that helps it to climb vertical surfaces such as rocks. The whole story (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28799126/)

Boy, 3, filmed smoking, mother convicted (http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/01/23/boy.three.smoking.britain/index.html?iref=newssearch)

What the hell is this lady thinking?

Prosecutor Jonathan Rees told the court: "The video demonstrates the boy placing a cigarette into his mouth, lighting it with a lighter and sucking, drawing smoke clearly into the lungs and he seems to do it with some accomplishment.

"It doesn't cause him any discomfort. He is sat on a chair close to the mother, who is talking on the phone.

"It is clear that the boy, at the age of three, knows what to do with a lighter and cigarette," Rees said.

Pocock is reported to have pleaded guilty on the basis that she hadn't seen her son smoking on that occasion, or ever before, PA reported.

Oh, and any sarogates available for brest feeding?
The term is 'wet nurse' :D and I heard that she WAS planning on breast feeding.

And from around here...
There was a murder of a 'popular bartender' in the Quarter on the 17th. Here's an article (http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/metro/index.ssf?/base/news-33/123260596547140.xml&coll=1) about two of the being remanded to adult court. (The third, a 14 year old, is jailed but there's a big difference in LA law between 14 and 15)
But the part that gets me:
Both teenagers were turned in by their mothers, who recognized them from police sketches, and both confessed to detectives their roles in the Saturday night shooting, New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Warren Riley said Tuesday.

Ok, good for the Mom's for turning them in, but now there's talk about them maybe getting the Crime Stoppers Reward (standing reward for turning in murders). Yea, you "raise" a kid who goes around in a group of 2 15 year olds and a 14 year old, with gun(s), planning to rob people in the Quarter, and you might be eligible for a reward? I think not.

(Fortunately, I did NOT hear that the Mother's were ASKING for the reward, but some people think they should be offered it)

I know this is kinda fascist, but I don't think artificial fertility methods/drugs should be available until all unwanted children have been adopted. If nature wants you to have kids, then you would, but if you can't for some reason, then why not just adopt?

And she's living at home with her Mom - correct?I am holding back on this detail as the LA Times story says "Neighbors said she and her six children ... live there with her mother." That could be that Mom lives with her and 'father of the children.'

Is there any mention of a Dad?

Or is she now the single mom of 14?Again from the story "... noting that her daughter's father is going back to Iraq, where neighbors said he worked as a contractor, to help support the expanded family."

But yeah, this story makes my blood boil.

ETA: in reading the story more closely, the person who said "... noting that her daughter's father is going back to Iraq..." is the new Mom's Mother: the new babies' Grandmother.

So who knows what the fvck is going on.

Alex

If she can care for the kids to a sufficient minimum level then I don't care one way or the other.

Is it less than ideal? Surely. But kids are raised in all kinds of less than ideal ways all the time (and many that would be well defended).

With the Mom of octuplets - they said that she received counseling about the risks of carrying 7 babies to term, and she refused selective abortion. I respect her right to make THAT decision, but WHAT fertility clinic implanted that many embryos in the FIRST place without going through extensive counseling. I was under the impression that they would implant fewer embryos if you weren't willing to go through selective abortion.

The fact that there's been NO mention of a fertility clinic makes me think they KNOW they messed up. I mean, what clinic doesn't make sure a mother gets prenatal care in her first trimester? (Or maybe they did, but it didn't come from the place that delivered the babies)

And where the heck is Daddy?!

The deal with these super-multi-pregnancies is that it's generally people who do step 1 of fertility (hormone injections to promote follicle growth), but, for whatever reason, fail to stick to the rest of the procedure. It's impossible to predict exactly how much follicle growth will result from an injection, so you're supposed to get blood work done to monitor it. If too many follicles are detected, a responsible doctor will either tell them to hold off on trying to conceive until the next cycle when they can reduce the hormone dose, or they'll harvest eggs for invetro. But if they just got the hormone injection and went ahead and conceived without checking, or ignoring the advice to wait until next cycle....... (I read a good article yesterday).

I don't understand WHY a 33 year old with 6 children already would NEED fertility treatments in the first place? Her most recent birth was twins that are only 2 years old. She obviously doesn't have a problem conceiving.

I wonder about her real motives. Publicity? Guiness Book? Charity? Or, maybe it's just stupidity.

I've never understood society's desire to help only those people they see on the news. Comcast offered customers a whole $10 each if they were impacted by the incident. What do you think of that offer?

If you had kids watching - does it scar them in a way worth more then $10? Or $5 each if you have 2 kids etc.

I think they should have said:

We at Comcast are deeply sorry for what happened and though we'll do everything we can to prevent a repeat in the future it does appear that this event was the result of an intentional circumvention of our processes.

Under normal operating conditions what was shown during the Super Bowl would have included an extra charge of $8.95 and as a sign of our regret over this unfortunate incident Comcast Arizona has magnanimously decided not to charge viewers.

As for parents calling us to tell weepy stories of how their children have been scarred or otherwise irrevocably damaged, please shut up. If your children are so emotionally weak that 30 seconds of a penis does them damage, it is best that you found out now so that you can provide proper padding on any nearby hard surfaces and sharp corners.

Again, we apologize for this event and assure you that this weekends Fright Night Marathon of slasher films on Spike TV and the College Corruption Marathon of stoner comedies on Comedy Central will proceed without any untoward interruption. Fun for the whole family.

From what I've read the concern is that the interruption was a test run for a terrorist attack during next year's Super Bowl. Had the clip gone on longer, every drunk man in America and our fighting men overseas would have been hypnotized into dropping trou and shaking our dicks from side to side.

This would have left us vulnerable.

So if you mean "prepare" me in the sense of making me aware of what could possibly happen. Then yes I guess I see that.

Let's see, 51-14=37. 37-22=15.
