Oh yeah, and I've decided (and am not sure whether it's covered here), that baking your bacon makes the best bacon bits. Next time, I may separate my bits batch from my EAT NOW NOM NOM batch - since the options will be greater for bacon embellishments.

I was wondering about its hazardous nature, being that there are creatures that would find plastic piggies interesting enough. What's the ecological impact of a loose inflatable pig?
On the flipside, the ecological impact is likely much less than that of the things the piggy protests...

So last night's dinner started out as "I want steak" and ended up as a bacongasm.
Bought some meat to make beef skewers, and then, since we were firing up the BBQ anyway (coal - it's a b*tch to light so ya make the most of it once you do), I figured I'd get a pound of bacon...and a can of water chestnuts... and some shrimp... Also got some ears of corn, onions, and a garlic bulb, but they have nothing to do with the bacon.
ANYWAY, made a new "candied" marinade for the bacon, much sweeter than the one I used at New Years (though not as good as Susan's!) I used craploads of brown sugar, a generous sprinkling of Worcestershire, a generous splash of soy sauce, a small splash of balsamic vinegar, and some water to make the goo viscous enough to put all the bacon into the bag and mix it around (oh yeah, I use a zip-loc for this)
Then I wrapped the marinated bacon around water chestnuts, pierced with a toothpick and placed on a foil-covered cookie sheet (okay the chestnuts ended up in the oven, not the bbq). The rest of the bacon got wrapped around raw peeled shrimp, skewered, and cooked on the bbq.
There was a remaining piece or two of bacon - they went right on the grill.
And in case you're interested in the non-bacon, the corn was wrapped in foil with butter and seasoned salt. The bulb of garlic wrapped in foil by itself. And there were also a couple burgers tossed on the grill.
Never did remember one of the things I'd planned, which was to wrap bacon around some of the hot dogs in the fridge. Another time, I guess!
Oh here's another tidbit. Bought the bacon at Stater Bros. and I bought the cheapest stuff in the ugliest package (you know, the blue box?) - awesome bacon. Super meaty, I mean way better than the Oscar Meyer stuff!

2 onions, peeled and chopped
5 ozs. hard cheese, grated
Salt & black pepper
Set oven to 375°F or Mark 5. Butter a shallow, ovenproof dish and beginning and ending with the bacon, layer the ingredients, seasoning lightly. Bake for 30 minutes until the bacon topping is crisp. Serve accompanied by crusty bread.

Dude, not to sideline from bacon, but Jim, you made LA Weekly's "Best of LA" in 2003? Awesome! (per this site (http://store.scandinaviandiets.com/Products/Spring-River-Farms-Thinkrisps-Red-Pepper-Garlic-Cheddar__56286623007.aspx))

Okay, logic tells me that shelf-life bacon is everywhere and perfectly fine. Even good. But there's a part of me that can't help being horrified at anything that comes from a can. Still... very cool.

(per this site (http://store.scandinaviandiets.com/Products/Spring-River-Farms-Thinkrisps-Red-Pepper-Garlic-Cheddar__56286623007.aspx))Somebody needs to teach basic math to this site:
Each ThinKrisp contains 1/4 cup of cheese
There are 6 Krisps in each tub.
Krisps are 4" in diameter
Each tub contains 1/2 cup of cheese.#1 x #2 = 1-1/2 cups of cheese (not 1/2 cup as indicated in #4

Has anyone found Bacon Flavoured Lube yet ?A quick Google search took me to this discussion (http://bm.tribe.net/thread/a93af5c8-ef93-463e-be52-78b6101c20ba) with this idea:
take one strip of bacon, rub it whereyawanna, you've go bacon flavored lube.
Flames engulf a building. Those trapped yell for help. Just when it seems hope is lost, in swoops . . . Bacon Boy!
The strip-shaped superhero, cape flying, knows catastrophe all too well. He's endlessly at odds with his evil nemesis, Fry Guy, who always tries to burn him.
With such a creative story line, it's no surprise that 10-year-old Austin Winters' drawings and characters inspired artists from Tacoma's Museum of Glass to turn Bacon Boy into a glass sculpture for its permanent collection; the piece also will travel with an exhibit, "Kids Design Glass," expected to grace museum pedestals coast to coast.

As you all know a potato salad is anything you what is add to make it your own. Some use hard boiled eggs, celery, onions, you can make it your own. I got this recipe from my dog sitter many moons ago. Her recipe has changed, but I have stuck to the BACON part.
This recipe is all about your taste. If you want a BBQ bacon potato salad, use the hickory bacon, if you want a brunch potato salad use the maple bacon.
I boil the potatos the day before and refrigerate over night.
BACON POTATO SALAD RECIPE:
1 pound of bacon
3-5 pounds of rose potatos or red skinned potatos
black olived sliced small can (if you don't like, not add)
small sweet pickles about 5-7 (you can use dill)
sweet pickle juice to help thin out mayo about 1/8 cup or less (if using dill use dill juice)
mayo (two or three heaping big spoonsfull) just enough to combine
mustard just enough to use for coloring (you don't want mustard salad unless you like mustard)
pepper as much as you like
Insturction:
Boil the potatos until fork tender, cool potatos with cold water, cut into cubes, refrige into cold.
Fry the bacon until your liking, let cool, cut in pieces or crumble.
Put potatos, bacon, olives, sweet pickles is large mixing bowl, and mix to combine.
Add mayo, mustard, and pepper. If salad is to dry, add pickle juice.
NOTE:
It is all about your taste, do you like more mayo, mustard, or pepper? add more
Enjoy!!!!!
Try it out, and please let me know what you thing.

I caught Dinner: Impossible last night. It was a 'sneak peek' with Iron Chef Michael Symon running things. I love him, thought the show was pretty good (and very entertaining), though with a different feel than the one Robert Irvine (who I still prefer)... but I suppose that wasn't the point.
One of his dishes was chocolate-covered BACON. Looked good. It dawned on me that I may be suffering from bacon-deficiency and that's why I'm not feeling good today. Been a few weeks since I had the yummy stuff.

Rubio's has great fish tacos. I can't imagine bacon tacos... I'll simply have to try them for myself ;)

They're not all bacon. The steak, chicken and shrimp ones have bacon in them.

Corner Bakery (http://www.cornerbakerycafe.com) has a new sammich:
NEW! BBLT on Mom's White Toast - $6.59
Six slices of applewood smoked bacon, locally grown tomatoes, crisp leaf lettuce and cracked pepper balsamic mayo. Add avocado for $1.00
That's right kids: six pieces of bacon. Had one yesterday (with avocado of course). It was good!

Had a T.A.B. sandwich at the little office deli today - Turkey, avocado, bacon. Yummy! Made all the more pleasant by running into an old pal I hadn't seen in several months. But the bacon was good too ;)

OMG, there is a Rubio's in Embarcadero 4 (over a block from me). I will have to try one, I've never been. Overall, how are their offerings?
another agenda item for SFO

I don't think I've ever seen bacon woven into a lattice form. It sure looks yummy though!

Micechat is copying our addiction to bacon....good or bad? Not sure, if it's a compliment or a put down.

Maybe they should have started a Sausage thread instead....It would have been more appropriate, that's for sure.
But, it really doesn't matter anyway. There are a million message boards out there, and MC is just one of those million, so I'm sure there are others with bacon threads too.
