Is it too late to find a nice mountain top and become a hermit? They got wifi on mountain tops now?
Just when I think I'm getting used to sleeping for 2 hours at a time, I have a night like last night, where every time the baby alarm goes off, I feel like I haven't slept at all.

I have finally started to tackle the biggest problem in the house... the spare bedroom. For the past few (like 5) years it has become the dumping place for the rest of the house. I have already removed 3 large bags of trash and added a few things to the growing yard sale pile. The Boy will be so pleased when he gets home. This is the crafts room, and he has to hunt for anything he needs, and climb over stuff to reach the desk.

I hate the "Insert" key.
Hate it, hate it, hate it.
I know there are ways to disable it permanently (http://www.wikihow.com/Disable-the-Insert-Key-in-Windows) for the computer (besides just removing the physical key) or to disable it in individual programs (like Word (http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/1069/word-disable-the-insert-key-to-permanently-turn-off-overtype-mode/)). But I have to ask: what is the function of the "overwrite" capability? Is this some remnant from the days of DOS or something?

It was not a good episode (even in the context of the bad episodes of late), and they under utilitized Galifianakis, but it was still worth waiting up for if only because his monologue was great, and the last sketch was nutty. On top of that, Zach actually shaved his beard for the last sketch, and then came out for the credits wearing a (very convincing) fake beard. Gotta admire that dedication to the craft.

I watched the last half of that as well. I haven't watched SNL in ages and now I know why. It was quite dull for the most part. I had no idea who the host was and, even after an IMDB search, wasn't more enlightened. Vampire Weekend was equally dull.
I agree that the last sketch was amusing. The consultant who was a guest on the show amused me because one of my dog world friends is a well-known pageant consultant so it was fun to see a parody.

There's a lovely but run-down and overgrown old craftsman bungelow a couple of blocks from us. We always referred to it as the "recluse house".
It burned down this morning, and the elderly couple (who we just found out really were recluses as well as hoarders) died.
The fire department said that the fire was very small when they got there, but because the house was packed to the rafters with stuff, it spread faster than they could fight it. So sad.

Here's an article (http://www.dailybreeze.com/latestnews/ci_14633553) about the house fire I mentioned.
This part really saddened me:
Duran, who volunteers with the Long Beach Animal Shelter, said the three dogs, all Australian shepherds, escaped the fire, but the elderly cat likely perished. The dogs should be available for adoption this week, she added.

So I my sister gets some sort of letter from a Lawyer (local I know who it is) claiming that somoene has a claim on my Mom's Estate. I'm supposed to get one too but they sent to my old address. Never heard of the person making the claim - looks like it's the lawyers son.
So I'm thinking unclaimed love child, family scandal, estate battle. I checked with my Lawyers and it was just a clerical error. Bummer that's so dull.

Yeah, the weather held for our ceremony, and most of the reception, only raining later on.
Yay!!! Glad you skated by with only a skiffle of rain!
There's a lovely but run-down and overgrown old craftsman bungelow a couple of blocks from us. We always referred to it as the "recluse house".
It burned down this morning, and the elderly couple (who we just found out really were recluses as well as hoarders) died.
Sad. I think it's incentive to clean house, though.

Facebook is creeping me out. They say they don't keep your email address or access to your address book if you "add via email" but someone who I just started emailing with just showed up as a friend suggestion. We have no mutual friends and I haven't done an "add via email" search in months. So they have to somehow still have access to your address book.
-----
I just found this (http://www.facebook.com/contact_importer/remove_uploads.php)
We will not store your password after we import your friends' information.
We may use the email addresses you upload through this importer to help you connect with friends, including using this information to generate Suggestions for you and your contacts on Facebook. If you don't want us to store this information, visit this page.
So I can't tell if that means they will keep accessing your data even though they aren't saving your password or if they just suggest based upon addresses already searched upon as they join.

I had a coworker in the hall near my office saying "shake it shake it" and sang out that line... I then realized that my boss (the owner) was in and with his door open. I was so embarrased. He didn't say anything but I wonder if he's going to say something to my direct boss about it. Hope not.

Attended a debate today at CalTech between atheists Michael Shermer and Sam Harris, vs believers Deepak Chopra and Jean Houston on the future of god. Deepak was the only one I'd even heard of, but I figured go see what they have to say. Turns out Sam Harris is very funny, a good speaker, was very focused, and respectful of the other side.
Deepak was kind of peeved from the start, and seems doesn't do well in an arena where he has to defend himself. He was asked to come up with reasons for belief, and I think the reality is that belief is something that can't be taught, only experienced. But he wouldn't say that... he kept trying to use quantum physics somehow to justify belief and it wasn't working. And he refused to give a direct answer to anything.

So sorry Wolfy. Of all the ways he could have passed, I'll bet that was the one he would have chosen - in your arms knowing how much he was loved.

Cute baby picture and sad kitty story, great way to start my day off crying.
Jen & Greg, Theo's adorable and I can absolutely see a family resemblance.
Wolfy & Wolfette, so sad, and such a long time he'd been part of your family!

That's got to be a hard thing to do. Good luck, I wish you the best for you, your mom, and family. Is she willing?

I'm listening to MGMT's upcoming album, Congratulations (available to stream here (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=124857167&sc=fb&cc=fp), either the full album or one track at a time). Any album with an ode to Brian Eno on it has my attention.

I just had a conversation with someone and the response to my question, 'How was your weekend?' sounded something like this:
So like this weekend okay I went to a concert at the waterfront and like it was pretty fun. This guy was all 'Hi' and all that and was like blah blah blah and was all totally nice and like asked me what my name was. I told him and he was like all ya la la and we hung out and watched the lead singer from UB40 sing and stuff. So, I was like all oh my god because he wanted to take me to the VIP section and so we like went over there and you know and so I didn't have a wrist band and so the big bodyguard was all blah blah blah. So, then we like got in, but we all totally didn't like feel like we fit in. So we like left and didn't come back. So, he just texted me and we're going to like go out or something tonight but his sister was like all he doesn't know how to you know drive.
I love that! I totally understood what she was talking about. But it did make me super aware of using "like" and "all" and "yadda yadda" etc. I found it fascinating.

Well that made me laugh! I can't figure out what the sign that says blank will eat your babies says. I don't know what could possibly fit in the blank. One sign has a cheeseburger on it! They seem very confused on what they are protesting, none of the signs match any theme I can think of!?!

It looks like one of them says God hates Jews. I suppose they should re-read their Bible. Unless God ordered Jesus to be crucified because he was Jewish.

In another picture it says, "You will eat your babies" which really makes no sense but adds quite a bit to the crazy.
(HAHA...I missed the cheeseburger!)

I hadn't realized it had been a week since I logged in. Apparently it's been a busy week. 750 new posts!!!! Wow.
I have my census badge now. I'm one step closer to being official. Fingerprinted today (I hope I pass!) by one seriously cute girl and a second time by a Disney fan. Yay for having a job!

Oh, it's been longer than that since I've been to MC. Here I made the mistake of reading the thread about the health insurance reform first and it timed out my "new posts" search.
Most of the threads on MC I can safely ignore. Here I tend to read more of them.

Unfortunately, it doesn't show how many new posts since my last visit. It would have been amusing.

If you hit "backspace" it will pull up your original new posts query.

I'll try it next time I time out. Normally that's how I read the new posts: search for new posts, click the "first new post in thread" button, read, hit backspace, and on to the next thread. When it times out it lists the threads, but I don't get the "first new post in thread" button. Normally I am careful not to let it time out but I read the big thread first which was a mistake and I should have known it. :)

...search for new posts, click the "first new post in thread" button, read, hit backspace, and on to the next thread.I always right click on the "first new post in thread" to open in a new window (or new tab if your browser supports it and that's what you want), closing that window once I've read that thread. That way, I don't lose the original search and it is easier to find.

We just finished a late dinner cooked using the electric oven, gas stove and microwave. Cleaned up, loaded and currently running both dishwashers, sat down to watch a couple of minuets of TV on the Big Screen HD Goodness which went to commercial so I left it on while I came to the home office turned on both monitors for a quick Internet check only to find out there are 4min left in "Earth Hou (http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/27/earth-hour-starts-at-8-30pm-tonight-asks-for-sixty-minutes-of-n/)r".
Oops. My Bad. Sorry Mommy Earth.
As my penitence I need all of you SoCal'ers to power down when your time comes. Please?

I'm watching 4 big dogs tonight and the largest if afraid of the dark. Such a conundrum!
I don't do Earth Hour because I think it's stupid so if I were vital to your hopes for penitence, Moonliner, my apologies.
But my office building announced that they'd be observing it so there's that. Of course, they'll be turning off the lights when 95% of them would have been off anyway but it's the thought that counts and we'll ignore the server rooms that are always on even when no person is within three floors of a computer connected to them. And let's not mention the AdverTVs in the elevators that personal experience shows are also always on even when the motion sensitive elevator lights have turned off. Or the fact that we've turned every toilet, urinal, faucet, and soap dispenser in the building into a continuous electricity sucking device.
I promise not to threadpoop in the actual Earth Hour thread.

In terms of power saved during the hour, It's pretty much meaningless but as a way to raise awareness of the larger issue of conservation, it's kinda catchy.
