You suck! I've been to two Targets in my jammies and no Tim Tam's. Darn it. One had a shelf tag but they were cleaned out. Second one not even a shelf tag. Now I'll spend half the day tomorrow going to Targets.

You are so easily persuaded. :D

I think I should bring a whole bag full of Tim Tams out next weekend. We could sit outside by the swanky pool at the Renaissance eating them while all of the health club people watch us from above.

We might get kicked out, but it would be fun.

Great pic, Matt!

I remember driving past Winslow years ago, and those damned lyrics were stuck in my head from there to Kansas. (They were replaced by 'Dust In the Wind', which was even more horrific).

Ever notice how highly processed foodstuffs are horribly unhealthy and gross...unless it is a highly processed foodstuff from another country?

I bet I would love Bubba Gump's if it had been founded in Kazakhstan.

This is because we covet what we see, but cannot have (like Tim-Tams until recently...get 'em while you can, and never mind the dress code KatieSue !!!). ;)

To the extent I care about the pot smoking it is this:

If pot is something that would cause him professional trouble (and definitely if it would cause suspension/disqualification) should it be discovered, then he was stupid for doing it.

However, every time he smiles I think he looks stupid so that would just be confirming pre-conceived notions.

Jackson Browne is the songwriter of the song "Take It Easy" from the where the line "Well I'm a standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona" comes from. The song was performed by the Eagles.

The first proper noun in that paragraph that rings a bell is "Eagles"

Though I suspose I'd recognize the song if I heard it.

I wonder if New York City puts up a statue of every songwriter who mentions that fair city.

He's apologized...

I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment,” Phelps said. “I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”

Jackson Browne is a singer/songwriter probably best known for beating up his ex-girlfriend, Daryl Hannah, an actress who is probably best known for kicking the **** out of Harrison Ford in 'Blade Runner'. All three of the aforementioned are connected to Kevin Bacon within three degrees or less.

So husband and I had fun at the super bowl party thrown by one of the mountain bike club members. I've learned that it's harder to type properly after drinking.

The hostess (when we left) said she was a little uncomfortable with one of the girls sitting on my husband's lap during the game. I figure, if I don't have a problem, nobody else ought to. While it's true he was flirting, it's also true that I don't mind.

I liked the game. And I'm a little disappointed that nobody responded to my admiration of cleaveage.

This reminds me of a news item I was e-mailed the other day about a man who went swimming naked in the ocean. After he got out, he lay down naked to take a nap on a chaise lounge with wooden slats. As he lay down naked, his balls drooped through the slats. When he woke up naked a while later, his naked balls which had shrunk in the cold water, had warmed up and expanded to normal size. His balls were now stuck in the slats. A rescue team had to come free hisnaked balls from the slats with a saw.

This part is what makes me think it's all about marketing their other Disney films, even though they deny it.

Here is the quote: "Disney has woven a few bars from some of its hit soundtracks into the classic "Small World" melody and added a new America section that includes a nod to Los Angeles' famous Hollywood Bowl, a quaint farm scene and "Toy Story" characters."

I think I'd rather just hear it's a Small World than it be interwoven with Disney tunes:rolleyes: My mother will be sad.

I've been thinking.... we should totally give Disney the idea to turn the Grand Canyon Diorama into a homage to their blockbuster hit, "Dinosaurs".

That would cover one side....

The modern Grand Canyon side could be easily turned into Radiator Springs, thus bringing the world of Pixar to that too!!!

And, then... the train should exit the tunnel into a store.

Oh, and they should decorate the train with the popular Disney characters. That way, once everybody gets off the train into the store, their minds are brimming with things they want to buy. Oooh!! I know, I know! They can line the inside and outside of the train with bus/subway-type ads. Just imagine things that read, "Toontown Station: Your gateway to great buys at the Five-and-Dime! Mention this ad and receive a free plastic bag with every purchase!"

Most of the iasw additions are innocuous enough, I suppose. Some blend in surprisingly well (although one might wonder why they bothered...) Some (Ariel comes to mind) stick out like big ol' sore thumbs. Still, it all pales in comparison to the "tribute to all nations, but mostly America" room. Some things, like the addition of some instrument parts (similar to the bagpipes) are quite good, actually.

The problem is that the America section is just lifeless. It looks like a 3rd grade diorama. I mean, if you were going to do something controversial, wouldn't you want to make it look good? I barely noticed the Timon and Pumba, because they blended in so well. But the America room is just plain pathetic. (and the hollywood-style search lights painted over the door to the white room? egads!) It's just so static and really quite pathetic looking. And the transition to the white room is horribly abrupt. If it weren't for that section, I'd be in the "don't see why it needed doing, but at least you didn't fvck it up" camp. As it is, I give that portion a big ol' WTF?

I watched the video link listed a few posts back, and couldn't hear much change (ie the Aladdin theme or Alice) but I did think that "when you wish upon a star" blended into the main theme nicely for Pinocchio. Second viewing, and I heard "In the golden afternoon" for Alice, and I think I heard a snatch of "a whole new world" near Jasmine and Aladdin, but not much more than that main phrase. Doesn't seem too intrusive (imho) Whole new word was the one that clashed the most.

I don't find the extra characters out of place except for Stitch, whom I've never really liked, and who takes attention away from Australia and Nemo. I shall Snub Stitch when I go through. :p

Home improvement update: No progress!

So, realizing that the bathroom fan housing did not seem to want to come out easily, we opted to try the upgrade kits mentioned by others in this thread. But we ran into the joys of owning a 30+ year old home. Apparently this fan was installed before the invent of such upgrade kits. The kits require the removal of the fan motor assembly AND the mounting plate. Unfortunately the mounting plate is not removable. Eff.

So back to trying to remove the housing. There's access to the attic space just feet from the fan, so I grabbed a ladder at home depot and got up there (OMG, 30 years of dust and dirt!! Eeeeew!). Carefully balancing on the ceiling joists, I could not see a way to get the housing down from up there either. A bit more research and I've concluded the best option is going to be to pick up a $12 pair of tin snips and hack the housing apart. Joy.

So, progress report after 3 weeks - nil. Hooray! But I'm picking up the snips today, hopefully they'll do the trick. I've got the replacement fan ready to go. Then I've got a 4 day weekend for Pres day which I hope will afford me the opportunity to get a good start and make a lot of progress on the closet.

I saw that Kids by the Dozen show yesterday and they were suprisingly well adjusted. The kids were helpful to each other. The parents seemed pretty normal. Lot's of room for the kids to run round and play. I liked them. Although I also like Jon and Kate plus 8 - even if he is a bit hen pecked.

The barn with all the winter clothes and boots were great. Just send the kids on up to find their new pair. (they take all hand me downs from everyone giving them and just have their own little "store" to try it all on in the barn.)

It's very fast-paced, so I hope I can retain most of it. More than a few of the younger women were in tears and very frustrated, so I hope they don't give up.

But, I actually kept up for the full two hours without needing to stop. Go me! And, I still had enough energy to walk just under two miles last night with my honey too. :)

It's snowing in Denver. Huge surprise. I hope the roads aren't too bad in the morning. Good thing I remembered the whole hat/scarf/gloves routine this time.

Have I mentioned how much this travel sucks?

And today we worked from 8:30am to 8pm. And I likely will not get any comp time, because despite the regulations clearly saying we're owed it, our head honcho doesn't believe in giving it for people on travel status. Because, you know, traveling is reward enough. I get to see the world! No, I get to see the inside of several boring conference rooms and sit in extremely uncomfortable chairs for nearly 9-12 hours/day.

I miss my rat so much. I hate sleeping without him. He can't hold me as I fall asleep. When I wake up, I can't feel his body next to mine. Without him around, I feel like I'm spiraling into disaster.

Two more days this week - then a brief respite before I'm back to Denver again.

1. Watching Jon & Kate + 8 one time only almost gave me an anxiety attack. What is she thinking, talking to him like that? Does she want him to be her friend, lover, life partner? Because she treats him like the 9th child. In public too! All the time. She acts so superior to him, it made me horribly uncomfortable to watch. So I never did again.

2. Hey, my dancing sisters! Both classes sound challenging.

DP, sore but in a good way, is cool. I'm glad you're liking the class. I don't know how I'd feel if other dancers got so frustrated they cried, but as long as you're liking it -- go you!

The bruise doesn't sound so great though, ToriBear.

3. Prudence, I am so sorry to hear you're missing your rat and Denver is cold and lonely.

Ding dong the fan is dead!

Finally figured out how the effing thing was attached. Two flanges, accessible only from the attic space, and almost impossible to see if you don't know what you're looking for. And to top it off, it was nailed in, not screwed or bolted. So it took a whole lot of prying, cutting and swearing, but the blasted thing is down! Photos of the mangled wreck are forthcoming.

Tomorrow is the install of the new one. It looks theoretically straight forward, the most difficult part being resizing the hole in the ceiling. But I know better than to expect it to go well.

I paid off 1 credit card today, mailed the final payment. The card is cut up and account closed. One little piece of fiscal folly gone from my life.

If I can keep to the budget, I will be cc debt free by May 2010. Yay! In the mess that is my fiscal life these days, this is a good thing and a real bright spot in an otherwise dreary reality. Progress! I will overcome this!

One step forward 1 and a half steps back.

As I predicted, all is NOT going smoothly installing the new fan housing.

Long story short, due to some very questionable placement of various ducts and pipes by god knows who, I first had to hack the vent duct off. And after doing that, I discovered that I'm going to have to shift the entire housing about 6 inches over. That means cutting away some ceiling and then eventually filling in the 6 inches on the other side.

Eff.

Found a bottle of amaretto liqueur at Trader Joe's for $7. I can tell the quality difference between it and the amaretto I had last week at the Buena Vista with my folks, BUT... pretty good price regardless.

However, now I'm curious as to what brand the stuff at the bar was. I'm no expert on the adult beverages, but that stuff was smooth.

Probably Di Sarronno at the BV. (I've not been there in decades!)

For cooking I picked up the inexpensive brandy from TJ. Not drinkable (I'm sure €, expert that he is, would say so) but fine for cooking. In a glass it probably tastes like jet fuel.

Oh so close!

Sh*t's gone wrong at nearly every step of this stupid fan replacement. However something actually went right today! As mentioned earlier, the positioning of duct work in the attic made it necessary to shift the entire assembly over by about 8 inches. That meant cutting a new hole in the ceiling.

It had disaster written all over it. First, I'd be cutting a new hole in the ceiling. Second, I most certainly do not have the best tools for the job. My options were a rag tag selection of hand saws NOT designed for clean drywall cutting, and a circular saw. Oh, and because of the (lack of) space in the attic, if I'd have to use the circular saw from below, upside down.

Well, upside down, wrong-handed, and with the safety guard oh-so-perilously tied open, I climbed onto the step stool and fired up the circ saw.

PERFECT cuts, first time. It's literally the one part of this whole ordeal that went ideally, even though it was also the one that seemed the most prone to fail. Go figure.

Unfortunately, after doing the wiring and the duct work, actually mounting the thing to the ceiling joist proved to be a pain. I need to get some better-suited nails for the job tomorrow. So it's not quite done. But I've got tomorrow off, so light at the end of the tunnel (or suction at the end of the duct, I guess)! Then I just need to patch the original hole in the ceiling. We'll see how ugly that looks.

Hopefully I get to start demo on the closet tomorrow also. Whee!
