It seems weird to think that soon, Kodak - the company that seems synonymous with film and photography - may no longer be in the film and photography business (http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20110127/BUSINESS/101270338/1001/business).
I am in the printing business and they still have a huge presence here, particularly with their high-speed ink-jet technology (they have an ink-jet printing press as well as high-speed ink-jet heads for attaching on to web printing presses - we use this technology on some of our larger mailing projects). It just seems weird that they may no longer make film.Yes, and sad. My father worked for Kodak his entire career. It was a huge employer in the Rochester area.

Maybe the only way to come to terms with being dealt a sh*tty hand is to take it one day at a time. I don't have any control over what's happening right now, and torturing myself with any sort of fiction that I do is doing no one any good. Theo was bitten at playgroup today. Didn't break skin but damn close.
There's this kid who is oddly aggressive for no reason. He'll be playing fine for ages and suddenly shove kids over, or grab toys with force, or bite. Mom makes him apologize, sits him out for a few minutes, then lets him back in. He always deals with the aftermath in a very calm manner, hugging the poor tortured child and going right back to playing. In other words, no consequences.
There were purple dents in Theo's finger for ages afterward, and then I had to deal with her apologizing to me and NOT tell her to take her f'd up child home. It really sucks because I actually like this mom a lot, it's not like she's a monster herself. She's just too forgiving of her child's aggression.
I think I'll bring it up at the next board meeting. If this happens again to Theo I'm going to tell her to her face that she needs to take her kid home when he does these things, if not to teach him a lesson, then as protection for the other children.

The bite happened earlier in the day.
He landed facedown next to the slide, and when he got up, there was blood on his forehead and the palms of his hands.
He actually thought it was pretty cool, and started getting in trouble for purposefully jumping from the side of the slide.

No - there might have been but it apparently got shorter in stages. He went from going to get a flat top to maybe just a trim instead and eventually ended up with that. (glad my husband took him as I don't have patience for that sort of thing.)
My neice has donated her beautiful long red hair several times and my friend did the same when our mutual friend came down with breast cancer. It seems like a great organization.

So who's the girl?
Usually when a guy makes a change like that there's a girl behind it somewhere.
Now to get him to change his shirt.

You know what would be cool as heck, if you're willing to go there, would be to let him bleach it out.

My fingers didn't hurt at all on my ride in, it can't be that cold.
It's raining a lot this morning and yet I managed to get all the way to work (which includes a 1 mile walk) without ever getting wet. Timed it well.

I like the fact that I have "smile and nod" buddies (i.e., people I see every day biking the opposite direction, just long enough to exchange a smile and a nod). I especially like the fact that, by now, they must think of me as, "That nutjob who never wears long sleeves or long pants, even when it's near freezing."

exactly my thinking. I think the new cut looks great.
mine was twice that length at one time. got it cut the day before I got married....so yeah, there was definitely a female in the mix.
the flat top would have looked good too though. Ive wanted one forever, but theyre too much maintainence to keep em right.
well done

Oh, and I saw my neighbour today on a itty bitty hybrid scooter-Razr thing (gasoline powered) with the tiniest seat you've ever seen. He's a big boy. I thought "Buddy, don't cough or you'll slide down the seat support pipe."

After several nights of not being able to sleep well due to stress and anxiety, i decided a little prescriptive pharmacological assist was in order last night and i got a full eight hours last nigt - yeah. I have my usually sluggish hangover feeling, but otherwise I am feeling much better.
Amazing what a good night's sleep can do for you!

The topic of "hair" from a few posts back reminded me of this new slang/urban dictionary term of "Biebians": "Lesbians who look like Justin Bieber."
A Google search of "Biebians" may come up with amusing links like:

Ouch. sorry to hear that. How are you feeling today?
Only took 9.5 hours to do the 3.5 hour drive to Reno last night. So the weekend is off to a good start (and I'm not being sarcastic).

Who's got the best wife in the world? I do!
Watching the news early this morning there was mention of the upcoming Space Shuttle flight in the context of it being one of the last. I mentioned I'd always wanted to see one. She said "So why don't you go?" After I picked my jaw up off the floor I thought "Why not?" Fly down Wednesday back on Thursday, one night cheap hotel, option to wait it out over the weekend if need be...
Yeah, I can do this!
So I'm booked for one Shuttle Launch trip. Everyone please send good vibes to NASA to get this sucker off on time!

But of course! I just hope I beat the odds and get to see a launch.
I'm flying down Wednesday night, I have a room booked next Universal, A tour that includes a bus trip out to the causeway (the best viewing spot for the public) and I'm back out Thursday night. I'm doing my best to allow for a 1 or 2 day delay but anything longer than that and I'm toast.

Going skiing?
No, just a random weekend road trip. Underestimated the storm a bit and the planned timing for everything got shot to hell so it ended up just being a 1,142 two-day drive to nowhere and then back (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=dublin,+ca&daddr=reno,+nv+to:lone+pine,+ca+to:Stovepipe+Wells ,+Death+Valley,+CA+to:Baker,+CA+to:Dublin,+ca&hl=en&geocode=FQhKPwIdUGi7-CkxIonWXOaPgDFXQPaOhHwyOw%3BFaEsWwIdVcnb-CmdoJKSrkCZgDGH9zh0zsXFQA%3BFVyQLgId74D2-ClTBvITnC2-gDF4jwJgY2H4BA%3BFXiTLgId-lsE-SmdjU1R2FLHgDE3YmBYV5Z5Mg%3BFdUZGgIdJ9gU-SlNxWRDv73FgDHZ7Q6MfXwX2w%3BFQhKPwIdUGi7-CkxIonWXOaPgDFXQPaOhHwyOw&mra=ls&sll=35.576917,-120.300293&sspn=7.449694,14.27124&ie=UTF8&ll=37.204082,-119.11377&spn=7.295793,14.27124&t=h&z=7).
But Lani and I enjoy just driving so it was all ok. And the jinxedness of it all (a 2-hours-to-go-1-mile traffic accident near Cisco Gap, a call to AAA the next morning, getting everywhere interesting just after they closed, learning that Death Valley after dark isn't all that different than Kansas, etc.) just gets chalked up to adventuring.
Plus, now I can say I've slept at the Wills Fargo Motel in Baker (favorite room feature? The wall lamp about 18" above the right side pillow on the bed).

Here we go again.....
Weather forecast for the DC metropolitan region
Sunday: For Monday - Light Rain with a wintry mix
This Morning: Up to 2 inches of snow
Noon: Up to 5 inches of snow
Currently: Up to 8 inches of snow
I can't wait for the evening news.... :(
Well, if it helps, Gary Braun said last Thursday on Tony Kornheiser's radio show that up to a foot of snow was possible on Monday (he said that it probably would be rain but that it would be just right on the edge of cold enough that a little bit colder than modeled and it would be a lot of snow).
So, as usual, the sports radio show ends up being the reliable source of information.
While getting over to the eastern side of the Sierras proved to be something of a cluster****, the views once over there were well worth the trip. Ah, the magical power of snow, for it can even make Reno look pretty.

Ahh I was a little too far north. I think I made something like 20 trips up/down 395 in a two year time span, all kinds of weather. It's still a more preferable drive over the 5. Now I need to do it and take a little more time to enjoy the scenery.

So pretty, Alex! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Eastern Sierras. Just the way they jut out of the landscape is incredible. And, yes, there are only 2 sure ways to get over the Sierras in winter - 80 and 58. I think 80 is not even a sure thing at times.
