We're still getting used to the new venue ever since PBDA had to move the Saturday night dances to the Baptist Church but it's getting a little better each week. People still gripe about the dance floor (too sticky for some people) and the sound from the stage tends to get muddled at the back of the room. I like the free parking in the garage next door and getting a glimpse of the spectacular Pasadena City Hall just down the street. We're on the edges of Old Pasadena near a Gold Line station and across the street from a bar so there are more people in the area. Some of them hear the music and come by to peek in the door.

Well, it's weird, because it's someone who would have no particular reason to drop me if they've accepted my request in the first place. I haven't seen this person since 1994, and they live in Leeds, England. Unless they decided there was simply no point?

I nearly unfriended some people during the political season just because I got tired of reading political tweets & stati. I imagine if you lived in another country that might be even more off-putting.

But at the end of the day, if you don't have the kind of relationship with this person where you could ask him/her directly, then they probably don't belong in your friends list.

Betty

Well- the fact that she has a page for one. She was expressly forbidden and she's had it since at least june of this year from the comments. And yeah - things that are inappropriate. sheesh

this sux.

As a parent, I wonder if I contact myspace if I can get the page removed. Although we'll be demanding the username and password and that should take care of it.

It's an interesting view into her life. One I certainly wouldn't have gotten if she hadn't taken the camera (the photos from the camera are posted on her page.)

BarTopDancer

The problem with MySpace and Facebook is that she can just create a new one using email addresses that she creates on a whim at friends houses and even school. Even if you let her keep it with the explicit rules that you have full access she can create a new one. The best defense is a good offense. Unfortunately there isn't really one of those for these sites.

Betty
11-26-2008, 12:46 PM
Well blocking access to the computer at home is a good start. She has time in the morning alone that she's been using for this.

And yeah - I know she can just redo it. Doesn't stop me from letting her know how disappointed in her I am and taking away privledges / doing chores as a consequence.

I'm sad. Frustrated. And frankly concerned about what else is going on I don't know about with Miss Double-Life.

Capt Jack

Maddie's dad let her set up a myspace over the weekend. Moron.

I agree with letting them know that you are looking and on the lookout for stuff like this. Not that you can stop them but at least making them aware you're looking.

I monitor Maddie's phone and text messages. I also have her phone set to upload her address book daily so I can see who's she's got in there. She's 12 and hasn't quite started to rebell yet but I want to lay the groundwork now so she knows I'm looking. She is also under the mistaken impression, which I may not have bothered to correct, that I can actually go online and read her text messages.

Also we have laptops which makes it easier to restrict access. Just unplug them and take them with me. She does have internet on her phone but that can easily be cut if I find an issue.

When I look back at it from a parental point of view, I'm just sick to my stomach.

I keep getting a "server is busy" error while trying to look around at posts.

I was getting that error message the other day.

I get that error for about half an hour almost every weekday around 2pm.Interesting. I've never seen that error myself, but we are apparently having some CPU usage issues on the host. I'm working to fix that to avoid being forced into paying for dedicated hosting (at more than 10x the cost).

I'm trying to get the host to give me more detail on the supposed CPU over-usage. They haven't said if it was a one-time occurrence or if it's happened repeatedly or regularly. I do know that the average usage is at about 9%, so it's not like the board is continuously eating cycles. What's particularly odd is that I haven't touched the software in well over a year and I haven't noticed an appreciable change in board usage in at least that long, so I don't really get why this is suddenly an issue.

Electric blankets are wonderful, too.We always have an electric blanket on the bed during the cold months. Both controls go on Susan's side of the bed (queen bed with dual controls). That way, when her side of the blanket inevitably fails, she can simply just flop the blanket over so that the working side is now on her side. The power is NEVER turned on on my side.

So, please - anyone, slay a lamb, light a candle, flush a toilet, whatever you can do to send the vibe for me. :)Hmmm. Hell with candles. This sounds like a good night to throw a log in the fireplace. :)

Weird. I got a call today from my personal trainer and because she doesn't have 20 clients she's been "restricted" from the gym. So they're supposed to get me another trainer for the last three sessions I paid for. I'm tempted to just let it go and consider the experience over but I paid for the sessions so I'm going to use them. I'm sort of curious to see if they'll call me about it since they owe me. If not I'll talk to someone when I go there Monday evening.

But it's just weird.

First day since surgery (2 Mondays ago) that I am attempting to go narcotic-free...only a fairly high dose of Aleve so far (and so good). Of course, I'm still laying in bed so we'll see how it goes once I'm up and crutching around.

Most of my uber medicated time was spent sleeping...having weird loopy dreams. In fact several dreams included members of the LoT, even though I have only met a couple of you in person.

Somehow though, it seems fitting that many of you invaded my drug addled dreams. ;)

O told me the other day that she wanted to go to WDW "soon"-- while I was still on my crutches so I could get a pass so we wouldn't have to stand in line.

(She knows about these magic "passes" because we have been to DL with someone who had a handicapped pass)

Sunny von Bulow just died. I had no idea she was still alive (and in a coma).

I knew she was alive since I watched Reversal of Fortune earlier this year (and finally got the Claus von Bulow joke that I heard on Denis Leary's No Cure for Cancer CD back in 1994) and I looked her up.

In other "you thought they were dead" news. Apparently Betty Page is in a coma.

So how close are you to Hollywood?

It's still Silver Lake... just southwest of the reservoir - and a couple of blocks up from Sunset Junction. The back of the house faces WNW, and since it's on a hill, there are also views of Hollywood and Century City. I took a picture of the CNN building (easily seen)... and when put it in iPhoto a blew it up and realized I could see the top of the Cinerama Dome. I'm very excited.

Assuming everything works out, we'll move in mid-January and have the first movie party a month later.

Good luck staying off the narcotics, B! That can be difficult but if the non-prescription stuff will do it now...

MP - I am SO envious of your new pad! That would be my perfect idea of a view. I can't wait to see it in person! :snap:

Today's been busy. Ken got up bright and early and scored our Wii this morning ($241 after tax with our Target discount. Woohoo!), we made a big grocery run (needed stuff to go with our endless supply of frozen meats), I pulled everything out of the fridge, scrubbed it all down, and reorganized it (shiny!!!!), we re-upholstered the bottom of our box spring (damn cat from hell shredded the old dust covering) and now we'll be connecting the Wii (but still not playing it until Christmas), so I can finally finish setting out the Yule decor. It's been a very productive day in our home. :)
