After hearing all these stories about casts and the like, I feel gypped that I never got one. (or perhaps lucky that I never injured myself seriously enough to get one)
The only bone I ever broke was in 4th grade, when I broke my pinky finger. But, the way I broke it was kinda cool...if you consider that I had it smashed by a kid who whipped a bowling ball right at my hand.

I am sitting here, dressed and almost ready to go to another job interview. I feel a bit cheated with my last one...I came in 2nd for the job with Direct TV. This one is for CleanSource as a CSR. The only good thing I can say is that at least the interviews I have been going to have been on my side of town, within 10 mins from my house.
Sooo...the phone rings yesterday, Office Team, one of the temp services I am signed up with calls. They have a 1 day job for me...for TODAY!!
I have decided that temp services have impeccable timing. The other service I am signed up with called me for a job while I was on assignment with Office Team. When I told them I was unavailable due to another assignment they got so ticked that they haven't called me since.

Basically the baby tooth had gone bad and needed to be pulled before it infected the adult tooth. 1 of them was a part of a root that was left during a previous extraction. He is doing better now. I am still going to keep him home tomorrow.

Irony of ironies.
I was finally given some real work at the new job today (been doing real work, but a trained monkey could have done it).
They have some 300 reports they are converting from one format to another. Currently they have an independent contractor doing it at a rate of about 1/day. My job is to learn how to do that so they can get rid of the independent contractor and save money.
Irony? I got the new job because I was an independent contractor that got the budget ax.

Well...he has the thing running now and was given a good deal on a new windshield. He wants to get it done this weekend. I just got back from AAA. I had to pay $224 to change the title and register it. It hadn't been registered in over 2 years. David's reply was that the tags on it are 2005. 10-1 they were stolen tags. The previous owner (not the one who gave it to David) was a tweaker, so nothing with this car would surprise me.

As soon as I open ed the door with my cool security card thing, I heard a beeping and realized they hadn't given me an alarm code. So the alarm starts going off.
I had no phone numbers of anyone in the office. I called the alarm company (phone number was on the alarm), but I didn't have the password, so they wouldn't give me any info.
After about 20 minutes of searching for a phone number, I found and called the emergency customer support line we have for customers of our software.
The guy gave me his code to turn off the alarm. When I was ready to go I rearmed it (hopefully) with the same code.
Sigh. Not a good thing.

Soooo.....Having a boring yet somewhat productive day. I'm now in the middle of my semi-annual Fawn Hall Event, in which I gather up the copious amounts of mail and such that has accumulated over the past six months and commence to shredding. I've mowed my way through two very large piles, and now only have to go through the mounds on top of our kitchen island and desk.
We're on vacation all week; we were supposed to be on a cruise going from NY to Nova Scotia but events conspired against us and we had to cancel our plans. Now I'm glad we did- between the restrictions when flying and the storm off the East coast (Ernesto, I believe) the fun would have been diminished. I checked in on our former cruise at Cruise Critic, and one person on board said the weather was bad, ocean really tumultuous and the Martha's Vineyard stop had to be cancelled. We're looking at a Hawaiian cruise or a trip to Europe next year instead.
Friday we're going to Seattle for the weekend- going to stay at a nice hotel in downtown and hit all the tourist traps like Pioneer Square, the Market and the museums. We seldom do that anymore- we either just stop off while flying to elsewhere, or we visit relatives and hang out at their homes. It will be nice to get away, even if it is for a short time.

She was quick to point out to my mom that, while the article says she and her friend walked across the parking lot, she was actually pushed in her wheelchair.

So... I just choked.
I was eating a sliced heirloom tomato with cottage cheese, and I was biting one of the tomato wedges and accidentally bit through the front 10% while the back 90% slipped down my throat and got lodged.
My throat kept spasming so I thought it was going down, but it turns out it wasn't, so I ran into the kitchen where Tom was finishing the asparagus, and I gave him the international "tomato lodged in my throat" symbol. He promptly administered the Heimlich Maneuver (god bless Heimlich-- god bless Tom!) and sent the tomato flying out.
It was very, very surreal. I always thought choking would hurt, but mostly it was slightly confusing and uncomfortable. But damn, that Heimlich works!

I had a strange experience with choking the other evening. I was sleeping and must have burped up a bit of gastric acid. For some reason, it made my throat close up and I woke up unable to breath. I was freaking out for a few seconds, as was Matthew, until I forced myself to relax enough to finally get some air in.
The adrenaline rush of the whole thing kept me up for hours afterwards.

I *knew* I refused to take tomatoes in my lunch today for a reason! Yoiks! My mom recently had to give my dad the Heimlich at the Black Angus restaurant by them. You'd think that would get notice, but apparently no one paid any attention. Seems like there should be lights and sirens and chorus girls and so forth - all celebrating the not-dying. I have been up almost 24 hours. I just can't sleep. The laundry is folded, chicken is defrosting for dinner (so that I can get it marinating), I hard boiled the recently expired eggs, I have finally updated my anti-virus for the computer, and the trash has been taken out. *whew*
I also have company today. Nickolas has been complaining of a sore throat to the past few days. He said he tried to tell his teacher that he needed to go home yesterday, but she wouldn't listen. I did manage to get out him that this was after 2 other boys had left. So today he is home. He is driving me nuts.
I am watching Thudder dig up the bedding on their cage. Poor Fluffer's face is covered with the bedding Thud is tossing around. I scared her when I called her name, just like a guilty kid, "What, who me?" But she did stop digging. She knows Nick is home and she wants out.
I really need sleep.

After Nick got home from school I layed down for a bit. I got up to find a message on my voice mail for another interview, but their office was closed, so I will call them back Monday.
I also found a housefull of kids. We have both of Dawn's little ones. The first thing the 5 yr old said was, "My mom said you can cook us dinner tonight." All I could think was how special. I ended up ordering pizza.

So...I get an email today.
A former college roommate, who was one of my best friends my freshman year in college, had been feeling sick for a while, and was admitted to a hospital for some testing. Yesterday he was diagnosed with advanced leukemia. He literally died a few hours later.
Blink.
How can someone have advanced leukemia to the point of death and not have known sooner?
While I hadn't maintained more than limited contact with him in the last few years, I am saddened by the loss of a great person who was a great friend during college. He is one of the few people I have ever known that truly had it as a goal to make the lives of everyone he had contact with better. Self sacrificing, caring, and compassionate.
He was 38 years old.

The whole thing is just rather surreal. Like I said, it isn't like we were close now, and only had the occassional email anymore. Like ML posted, it's important to cherish each and every moment, because who knows how long we have.
I realized I've actually discussed this friend before here or perhaps on another board prior to the creation of the LoT, and perhaps MBC might remember. He is someone who...discovered? realized?...that he was gay only somewhat recently, even though he had girlfriends and such during college and HS. In some thread or another I was saying how I thought that was odd that he was seemingly happy and....well, hetero, for lack of a better word....and then either came out or made a discovery or some such thing.

Sooo....We went to Seattle for the weekend, and had a very fun and interesting time. I am no stranger to Seattle, but the past few years we have pretty much just zipped through it on our way to somewhere else. This time, we stayed downtown in a nice little boutique hotel and really got to absorb some of the atmosphere. As much as it pains me to say it, I truly love Seattle. (I just hate how much of our tax dollars, etc, they get as opposed to the Eastern side of Washington). Anyway, took a few pics and had some fun experiences that I will post in a mini-trip form here in the next day or so.

I now have 2 job interviews tomorrow and 1 on Monday. The one tomorrow morning is with Nextel. I don't remember applying for it, but it is worth the time to hear what it would entail. I am just hoping it isn't a retail position, this is about taking steps forward and for me, retail is a huge step back.
Tomorrow afternoon is with www.howcool.com . They have several different office positions open. It would be the same type of thing I did at SociallyYours, phones, email, faxes, filing, ect... Only 1 problem, it is waaaay on the other side of town, and will take 30-45 minutes to get out there, but depending on which way I go it could be a very pleasant drive. Nickolas is a bit peeved because I told him I wouldn't be home when he got home from school.
Monday is with Colombo Construction as a data entry type thing, either in the office or on job sites. This one is one my manicurist/friend helped me get. The office manager is a client of hers and mentioned she was looking for office help. Deanna immediatly thought of me.
I just want a job, where I can go to work and get paid for it. We have enough money to pay bills with only David's check, but not enough to play with. My goal is to get something soon so that we can take a trip for Nickolas' b-day in December. I have already figured out where we would go and where we would stay, I just need to be able to pay for it before I finalize anything.
On another topic, I got a wild hair and we had meatloaf for dinner. I finally got an appitite and took full advantage by cooking a nice dinner. Even the rats are eating dinner, potatos and corn.

So FEJ, what are you doing right now?

I thought so cause they looked so vintage and cool, but I didn't know if they were family, or reproductions. And frankly weren't sure they were gay, men were allowed to touch and stuff back then, you know. Even kiss. But these days if you show effection at all people talk. But that's fine with me, they can talk all they want, I still will hug men I'm close to. So there!:p

Well... I had my 2 interviews today. Nextel was pretty much what I expected. Main drawback is it is only $8.50/hr. The one this afternoon with HowCool.com was verrrry different. The fist thing I noticed (after spotting the workout equipment in the lobby) was people running around barefoot. They had already decided they wanted me in the customer service dept. I ended up being surrounded and interviewed by 3 different people, the 2 girls doing the hiring and the cust svc dept head. They told me the job only paid $8/hr and when I balked the girls took off and had a conference. They came back and said they wanted me to talk to the owner and see about giving me a manager title so they could pay me more.
The drive out there was very surreal. It is just over a hill from where I used to live with The Old People. It used to be out in the middle of nowhere. It ain't nowhere any more! I was shocked at the amount of building going on. Mesa Marin (Nascar raceway) was even torn out and it just had it's last race in April! It is already graded for more houses. The empty field in front of our old house (around 1000 acres) now has houses on it. I guess they solved the water issues (really bad water due to oil drilling).
It just kills me that all these open areas are no longer open.

So, today's panel feels I have "credibility issues." They couldn't articulate what they meant by that, of course or otherwise provide me with any useful feedback. It's just a "sense" they had. I guess I just look like a liar.
The good news is that I'm finally well on my way to acquiring the necessary skills to succeed in politics. All I need now is to master "morally questionable" and "soul selling" and I'll be all set.

(Audrey's taken, but she would have classed the joint up too much).
Soooo..... brutal day at work today. I was dreading it intensely- not only had I scheduled my stupid ass to work nearly 12 straight hours without a break, but I caved in for a friend and agreed to style an entire wedding party in the a.m. I am not a morning person, and I had to be there by 7:30. Then, the bride turned out to be majorly OCD, which I discovered during the two practice styles we did prior to the wedding, and her call to me at home earlier this week. (Just to make sure I would be on time, etc). Now, I have been doing hair for twenty years, and have extensive experience with wedding styles. I also decided to only do friends and family in the past few years because, frankly, weddings tend to be a PITA and seldom worth the money, in that no one can pay me enough to put up with some of the crap I have over the years. Anyway, while I really like the bride and understand she can't help herself with regards to the OCD, I really did not want to show up today.
Imagine my surprise when she turned out all smiles and calm, and I was equally relieved to get the five elaborate updo's done in under three hours, leaving her plenty of time to get OCD on the photog's ass. I was exhausted by the time I was done, and I still had another 8+ hours to go. I am sooo glad I have the next three days off. I'm getting too old for this ****.

I am off for my interview with the construction company. After that I get to go to the grocery store. I have a craving for chicken & dumplings tonight, so I need to get the chicken and veggies. After that it is home, get everything started, do dishes and take out the trash. Once Nick gets home we will run leftovers from Thursday's dinner out to The Old People. We aren't going to eat them and my dad loves meatloaf but mom won't make it for him. Then it is back home to clean the beasties and beat the boy into doing his homework.

I babysat my little baby great-niece today- she's only six weeks old and looks like a feminine version of her daddy, who was my practice kid.:D
She's adorable, but I think the poor little thing has colic caused by her formula- her daddy, uncle and cousin Tori all had a milk intolerance and had to be switched to soy. I think her parents are afraid to switch her formula, so they are trying the Mylecon drops and such first, which are NOT working. She basically ate, screamed and slept all day; the little scooby was exhausted from crying and I felt so bad for her! I have her again tomorrow and I hope she has a better day. I really hate to see a little one having such a rough time. I'm glad I can watch her- I can't imagine putting her in a daycare, especially when she feels so rotten.

So, I'm looking at our road trip in November, wondering how concerned we should be about snow in the mountains (Northern CA, Southern OR). Anyone have any idea when it gets snowy and bad up there? It's not like we don't drive in snow up here all winter, but we're at a lower elevation than some of those passes we'll be coming through.

I had another sleepless night last night. After I got Nickolas off to school (I love that he no longer needs me to drive him) I decided to try to head to bedd to get some zzzs. I phone rang as soon as I started to doze off. No biggy, just Dawn. I told her I was trying to sleep so that got her off the phone pretty quick. She is calling me because I got word to her to stop calling David after I saw the cell bill and that he used 1447 minutes last month (we only have 850 between 3 phones-TG for Rollover).
No sooner was I head back into unconciousness than the phone rang again. By now it is 8:30. I have a job interview today at 2. It is for Builder's Showcase. Luckily I know the area I am going to because it is on a new street that hasn't been mapped yet.
Now, if only I get an offer or 2 I will be a verrrry happy camper!!
Poor Nickolas, I am leaving him a note on the back door. I expect my cell to blow up around 3:10 when he sees that I'm not home.
