Well... I just learned why I never went to company parties when I worked at SBC. I went to the party of the rental company I am working at. I actually stayed late last night, helping to set things up for tonight (keep in mind I am not a perm employee, I am technically still employed by the temp agency). Last night everyone else left, but the person who was trying to pull this whole thing together and myself. She and I finished setting the tables and making sure the basics were all done. I got home last night at 7, when I had clocked out at 5:30.
Today I had to work my normal Saturday shift with a showroom that I couldn't really use to show anyone anything. Luckily, I only had 4 people come in to see the showroom. I was able to help 3.
Tonight was a fully catered dinner, DJ and open bar. I had met a few people at a restaraunt/cantina before hand. I got there with a decent buzz, which quickly went to Hell when I had to start "mothering" a co-worker to try to keep her drunk ass from being too stupid.
After the lights came back on I helped to clean stuff up. The biggest, messiest table was the one the showroom workeers sat at. Ok, I took care of their mess and made sure that nothing else had to be done tonight before I left the building.
I saw the person who had organized the party was very upset about something, so I asked the owner/general manager why she was so upset. Someone had stolen the bartender's tip har. Not just the money, but the whole jar. This is verrrrrry insulting to everyone who works there. The DJ/bartender is a very good client of ours. Luckily our owner/GM took care of them. But it still makes me mad.
I got outside to see all of my fellow showroom workers trying to figure out who was driving who home. At that point Nickolas called to see when I would be home. When I looked down I saw the beer bottles. They were litterally behind every single tire of the DJ/bartender's truck. Placed there by the warehouse employees that had gotten "cut off."
I then spent another 10 minutes making sure that we got them all picked up.
Now I get to be a mom at home and put Nickolas to bed. He had been waiting up for me to get home so that I can tuck him in.
*sigh*

There should be plenty of embarassed people wandering around tomorrow. Luckily I can walk in with my head held high. I tried to be social, so the only thing I may end up being guilty of is inadvertantly putting my foot in my mouth. Since I tend to do that on a daily basis, I'm not too concerned.
the DJ/bartender company is a client of ours, I hope last night doesn't cost us their business. The guy who owns it is a truly nice guy. It is embarassing to think of how he and his crew were treated.

Well, LA has a Little Ethiopia that is on Fairfax and Olympic. Heidi and Tom had eaten at a reataurant there and so we went to have a nosh after LACMA. (I've only eaten Ethiopian food in Berkely.)
The food is mildly spicy and absolutely delicious. We got combo plates (veggie and meat combos). All meals come with Injera, which is a strange, thin, bread that I can't describe in a way that would make you want to eat it. You pull off a piece of bread and scoop up your bit of whatever (or WATever - teeheehee - Ethiopian food joke). Lentils are a big ingredient and are sooooo goood! It is yummy!

If every household in the United States replaced just one roll of virgin fiber toilet paper (500 sheets) with 100% recycled ones, we could save 423,900 trees. The weakness of this argument is that the trees that are used in paper products (printing papers, butt-wipe, etc.) are grown on managed farms and are a crop much like vegetables. The average tree is harvestable in 5-7 years. By raising trees in this method, it helps REDUCE greenhouse gases by having more vegetation on the planet. And for the naysayers who talk about the polluting that paper mills create, the level of polluting output has decreased significantly in the last few years to a very minimal level. The recycling process creates more pollutive byproduct than the processing of virgin materials.
Paper products are our friend, not the enemy!

Really???
I didn't know they had tree farms for paper products! I knew logging was controlled, and trees replanted to keep up the forests, but not a real tree farm? That's cool! And I could see how recycling could cause more pollution, they use a lot of chemicals to reprossess the paper, where making the paper uses very little. And paper is biodegradeable (except in landfills it can take hundreds of years due to the lack of water, air, and microbes- but it will break down eventually. Plastic takes thousands of years).

Portion of dream:
I had a makeover and was told to straighten my hair.
My Mom left me at the mall and I had to walk home from Anaheim.
I had to do a timecard before I could leave the mall
I found my old car in the parking lot and drove it home
I picked up McDonalds on the way home
My Mom met met at home and brought me dinner but I was still mad at her and told her I was DONE with her BS
My Dad left me an American Express card to pay for my makeover

I didn't know they had tree farms for paper products! They actually use cloned seeds, so you will get a row of trees with branches all sprouting at the same place. In the summertime (peak growing), not only can you easily measure growth by the HOUR, if you are patient enough, you can almost see the tree grow (so I have been told - I have not experienced this myself).

Pwnt is another spelling.

I had a good meeting at Nick's school yesterday. It was some sort of solcialization seminar. I did feel ambushed, because when I walked in there were 6 people from the school waiting for me. I finally met his teacher, who told me she felt hurt when she learned how much Nick cares for the school counselor. Overall it went well, not that they told me anyting I didn't already know. Well, they did tell me one thing. Casey (the biter from 1st grade) and Nick seem to work really well together in class, but the teacher doesn't understand why I don't want Nick playing with him. This weekend I am going to find the picture of his arm and send it to school so she realizes that the kid did some major damage.

A very good friend of mine is about to pop, and I offered to co-host a shower because I AM A FRIKKEN IDIOT.
No, actually I wanted to do it, but damn! I didn't count on this weird insomnia spell that's kicking my ass. Luckily my natural hyperness has kicked in, but my brain is slightly mushy. I don't anticipate any sort of advanced intellectual .......ality, tomorrow, so I am good to go.:D

I tidied my ensuite, then the kitchen, then vacuumed the whole house after we took the tree down and wrapped all the USA glass ornaments and C7 light bulbs in tissue paper.
Then I watered the plants, cooked a potato bake for dinner, whipped up a chocolate mousse and ate dinner while watching an episode of More Tales Of The City on DVD.
I might have a shower and go to bed amongst my crisp lovely sheets soon.

I just got done working at our booth at the bridal fair. It amazes me that the guy who did our lighting for free did exactly what we wanted, yet the florist who charged $200 didn't do crap. The first table she did some twigs with orchids glued to a branch here and there, then little strings of plastic crystals hanging down there and here. The thing was anchored (or so we thought) in a bed of pink rocks and water with candles floating on the water. It was by no means worth $100. One of our guys carried it to my car after the show and the whole dang thing fell apart. So much for using it again. The other table had a few bud vases with a couple of whit lillies and some whit roses, no centerpiece at all. That table also cost us $100.
There was a great turnout. this was the 2nd fair of the season, the first being 2 weeks ago. Thank God we didn't do both. There is another one coming up in a few more weeks and we aren't doing it either.

Anybody as crazy as the guy I had to deal with about 20 minutes ago...
Crazy person - "Where do I get tickets for Spongebob?"
me - "Spongebob will be out in about half an hour, in front of the Nickelodeon Blast Zone, he'll be happy to see you, no tickets necessary."
Crazy person - "No, no, Where do I get tickets to see Spongebob taped?"
me - I've got a witness to this - "Bikini Bottom is under the sea, so I don't think they let people watch the show being made"
Crazy person - "Where's Bikini Bottom?"
me - "It's where SpongeBob lives"
Crazy person - "That's here, right?"
me - "No, I'm sorry, sir."
The dude turns to his family and says "This guy doesn't want to help"
Then asks my coworker if she'll be any more cooperative than me.
At just the right moment, Spongebob walks by on his way to his meet and greet spot.
The Crazy Family runs after him, and nearly knocks him over on the wet pavers.

My mother is writing David a letter. I have been asked not to open it. She is mailing it tomorrow. I asked not to know what she has said. In the meantime I am trying to figure out what the first steps are to getting a divorce. The catalist was this weekend. He started a chain saw outside Nick's bedroom window at 7am. When Nick said something to him he really laid into Nick. Poor kid was quite upset. He came in and crawled into bed with me for comfort. That night David left to go work on Dawn's garage. His parting words to me were that he would be spending the night since he planned on drinking.
Last night was rough for me. I was crying to the point of being sick. My dad had 2 stints installed in his artieries and when they removed the sheath from his groin he began to hemorage. At no point did David offer any comfort. He knew I was crying, he knew I was throwing up. He went to bed with out even saying good night.
I have finally had enough.
Nickolas and I would be much happier on our own. Selling the house will be more than enough to get us out of debt and place a nice down payment on a condo (even when split in half). With all of the documentation going on I won't have to worry about facing a judge for alimony and child support. This just scares the Hell out of me.

I'm so sorry MG. You've been caught up in a lot of events and reactions that have almost nothing to DO with you except that they greatly effect your life. There comes a times when there is no going back and you have to look to the future and all of it's possabilities. (((((MG)))))

MG: That sucks. It just sucks beyond sucks and you didn't even do anything to cause it. Not that it would be justified if you had, but it's extra special sucky because you and Nick are completely and totally innocent. Better to rid yourself of the burden that twit has become, but what a nasty, awful thing for you to have to go through.
Please remember how much you are loved and valued here. There are more of us than there are of him, therefore our opinion carries the day.

My heart goes out to you and Nick. Best of luck to you.

So today I was thanking the gods who invented responsible data backup policies. It's nice to know that working at a company whose business is data backup, one can get a file that one accidentally deleted off the network restored within a day. Gives me some confidence that what I do actually matters to someone.

So they built this outdoor sculpture park in Seattle. Expensive. Took away the waterfront trolley to do it. And now that it's open, the big complaint is that people are touching the art. The outdoor art. That birds poop on. And they're surprised - shocked! - that people would touch outdoor art.

Sooooo....had a slightly hellish day today. Not horribly so, but let me just say that is can be very difficult at times living with ones MIL, especially one so adept at passive-aggressiveness. Had a blow-out at lunch and neither of us are talking, which actually is working well for me.
I e-filed our taxes yesterday and of course got a notice today that the IRS declined them. Looking them over, I discovered a minor discrepancy (related to my name, not numbers), which I corrected then re-submitted. I received a notice this evening that the IRS will accept them now, so I am a happy girl. (Refund is paying for my DL trip). This is my first experience e-filing, but it wasn't the pain I thought it would be, even with my Schedule C and all that.
I really am looking forward to esca....I mean, going on vacation, even if it is only for six days.:)

On a wierd side, our new baby, Cupie Doll is crooked. Her little head is always cocked to one side. It doesn't bother her, it is just sort of funny. Also, since I started putting the vitamins in their water they are all doing much better sneeze wise.
Since I am off today (after working all last weekend) I am going to take Nick to the movies after school. I really want to see Night at the Museum. It is also the only kids's movie showing at the theater near our house (the one we have the g/c for).

They took out the waterfront trolley?? I'm in trouble then, I do remember telling the kids we'd take a ride on the trolley next time we were down there as we had no time last time (which was August of 2005) and they were asking. Lets hope they've forgotten by then...

The sculpture park went where the trolley maintenance barn was, so at the moment there's no trolley. There's been talk of putting the maintenance barn down in Pioneer Square somewhere, but I'm not sure what the status of that plan is now. Plus, there's all the viaduct nonsense.

I hate people who won’t do their jobs.
We have a wall of file cabinets in our office that are used to store closed cases. It is the job of the clerks to file the cases under the appropriate month of discontinuance. They haven’t been doing this. They just drop the cases randomly in whichever drawer they feel like. We have been bitching to the Clerical Supervisor for weeks about the mess. She hasn’t done anything about it. (She’s useless, and only removes her butt from her chair for lunch and bathroom breaks.)
So, today, we all descended on the file cabinets and went to work. We had the mess cleaned up in just under an hour. It wasn’t our job to do, but we did it because we were tired of not being able to find cases when we needed them.
While we were working, Ms Useless Clerical Sup came over to see what we were doing…. And she started laughing at us. Here we were, doing what her employees wouldn’t do – what she was too lazy to make them do… and she was laughing at us.
I’m pissed. We’re all pissed. My manager is pissed; which, fortunately, doesn’t bode well for Ms Useless’s future. Fehhhh…..

While visiting another site, I was reminded of an event coming up this Monday.
Is anyone going to the Patina event? I want to but I work that day, the Hubster works and the Boy has school. So. I need to try and convince the Hubster that he can eat until he bursts. He hates/loves that. But I think he would enjoy trying the restaurants.
Anyone? Even if I don't go I would love to hear experiences.....

The strangest things can make you appreciative.
The other night, CP was working late and I was home alone scouring the pantry for something for dessert. My best option turned out to be toast with butter and jam (mmmmm). So I get all the components together (umm, toast, butter, and jam, check) and go to the silverware drawer. To my horror, I find no knives left! A quick glance at the sink, no clean knives. Dishwasher...dirty. Damnit! Does this mean I'm going to have to wash a knife? The HORROR!
But wait! There's one last hope. I rush back to the silverware drawer and start sifting through the pile of serving utensils looking for my last hope, the butter knife. Alas, not there. Could it be...to confirm my suspicion, I check the dishwasher. Sure enough, there it is covered in butter, already used by CP that morning.
And I laughed. I laughed out loud because it suddenly struck me how happy it made me that she and I went through precisely the same thought process and arrived at the same solution to such a life-threatening situation.
Then I grabbed a steak knife from the knife block because I wasn't going to wash no damned knife.

Just as an aside to this comment, when one spouse (or partner, whoever) normally does a certain chore, say, laundry, do you thank them for doing that job?

Response to Brigitte~
Oh, we do. Thank you for coming to visit me at lunch. Thank you for fixing the bed. Thank you for cooking what I like for dinner. Thank you for letting me sleep in.
But, of course, there are the Thank yous like...
Thank you for dropping me off in a puddle of mud.
Thank you for changing the channel when I left the room for two minutes.
Thank you for taking that phone call while we were: having a conversation...on a romantic get away...out with the family...and turning down my music instead of walking into another room.....
But, we do mean it. My MiL was impressed {or else being sarcastic?} when she told me that my BiL was surprised how well we got along while he and his wife fought all of the time. We appreciate one another.
Well, we try. :0)

LOL :)
We get along quite well, it's not a matter of him not appreciating what I do. It came about last month when I was in the hospital for the gallstone. He finished up the laundry I had left while I was in there. Then he mentioned that I didn't even say thank you for finishing it. Well, I guess I just didn't think about it, he doesn't thank me for doing his laundry week after week, y'know?

I hear ya. I mean, I can stand in front of him, walk around him while fixing the bed. I'll say 'Thanks for helping' and he'll say 'You didn't say anything!!!'
Oh come on.
But, my husband thanks me for not doing his laundry. Many years ago, I washed his wallet. Then I washed his clothes in something and turned quite a lot of things pink. So, he has his own clothes basket and does it himself. :D
But, up until then, I did all of it. Wash, dry, fold, hang up, etc.

Considering that you were the indirect cause of my need for dessert, I can't say I'm surprised. Though I must point out that my "mmmmm" was meant with no irony. Sometimes I forget how much I loves me some toast with jam and butter.

Sometimes I forget how much I loves me some toast with jam and butter.
A. A. Milne
The King's Breakfast
The King asked
The Queen, and
The Queen asked
The Dairymaid:
"Could we have some butter for
The Royal slice of bread?"
The Queen asked the Dairymaid,
The Dairymaid
Said, "Certainly,
I'll go and tell the cow
Now
Before she goes to bed."
The Dairymaid
She curtsied,
And went and told the Alderney:
"Don't forget the butter for
The Royal slice of bread."
The Alderney said sleepily:
"You'd better tell
His Majesty
That many people nowadays
Like marmalade
Instead."
The Dairymaid
Said "Fancy!"
And went to
Her Majesty.
She curtsied to the Queen, and
She turned a little red:
"Excuse me,
Your Majesty,
For taking of
The liberty,
But marmalade is tasty, if
It's very
Thickly
Spread."
The Queen said
"Oh!"
And went to his Majesty:
"Talking of the butter for
The royal slice of bread,
Many people
Think that
Marmalade
Is nicer.
Would you like to try a little
Marmalade
Instead?"
The King said,
"Bother!"
And then he said,
"Oh, deary me!"
The King sobbed, "Oh, deary me!"
And went back to bed.
"Nobody,"
He whimpered,
"Could call me
A fussy man;
I only want
A little bit
Of butter for
My bread!"
The Queen said,
"There, there!"
And went to
The Dairymaid.
The Dairymaid
Said, "There, there!"
And went to the shed.
The cow said,
"There, there!
I didn't really
Mean it;
Here's milk for his porringer
And butter for his bread."
The queen took the butter
And brought it to
His Majesty.
The King said
"Butter, eh?"
And bounced out of bed.
"Nobody," he said,
As he kissed her
Tenderly,
"Nobody," he said,
As he slid down
The banisters,
"Nobody,
My darling,
Could call me
A fussy man -
BUT
I do like a little bit of butter to my bread!"

The travel agency decided to start the new year off with a bang so they had this big promotion. It's taken off like crazy which is good for them but bad for accounting (me, mostly) who has to process all of it. Out of 12 of us in accounting I always take care of these special programs so everything is landing on my desk. I come in to mail six inches deep (at least) in my inbox each morning. It's been taking me at least 45 minutes to just open my mail. That doesn't even count actually doing the work and I'm weeks behind on that.
The light at the end of the tunnel was that this promotion was only for the month of January so I could see myself catching up with the huge pile of paper on my desk during February.
Today they extended the promotion for another month.

I remember reading something similar to this in a vet article one time - you might want to check that there's nothing wrong with her ear. Sometimes a small infection in the ear canal or similar can make them do this.
