Did you go on Xcelerator?

I have been wanting to get to Knotts for a while now. It's been about 20 or so years the last time we went was when Susan and I were first dating - we used to get in for free because a friend of hers worked there at the time.

I went a few weeks ago. It went waaaaaay down hill. We also went during school field trip week. It was horrible. And security... they would yell at everyone for anything. I felt like I was in school again.

One thing I noticed (that they can't really help due to the nature of the rides) is that the lines are so long because they can only put one car on the track.

I think Disneyland spoiled me. Shaded queues, security that doesn't yell at you, a park that I know my way around...

wolfy999
07-03-2008, 11:05 AM
Did everything but Excelerator and Boomerang....only because Wolfette's equilibrium got knocked off by Revolucion, so she chickened out on those two. Rode Silver Bullet 4 times and I know she would have gladly kept riding that until closing.

Every ride was a walk-on (economy is showing here also). But they still took a long time to load. Heck on Montezuma's revenge we didn't even have an employee at the loading area! Park was clean, the employees were friendly, (but not knowledgable about the where about of things....bathrooms, smoking areas ((one just said smoke anywhere))etc.).

We were tempted to buy Annual Passes (but decided once a year will probably be enough), since they are so cheap. $90.00 for adult and $60.00 for a kid, can't beat that. But where the entrance is cheap they made up in food costs...OMG! $30.00 for two of us for lunch at Panda Express!

Emmy was once sweet and precious. I was there the day her little eyes opened. Little did I know that those eyes opened upon a world that she intended to overthrow and dominate behind a facade of cuteness.

Don't let anyone be fooled by these two cute and precious rescues. The furry little demons are probably hoping for a hostile takeover someday. ;)

Pixel was bottle fed (found abandoned in a gas station parking lot before she'd been weened).

She's a perfectly nice cat. Just not very touchy or the other behaviors that are viewed as affection in cats (she likes being around us, just not generally touching us).

Not Afraid
07-03-2008, 05:58 PM
I think it is more of a "girl thing" with cats. I find more often than not that girl kitties are a bit more stand-offish. Of course, the "breed" has something to do with it as well. At the moment, the Tortie is the friendliest and whines less than the black boy. However, in my experience, Torties can be a bit of a bitch (as can Calicos) - again, they are always girls. I think the only reason Calliope isn't quite the queen bitch (yet) is that she's a "wild" breed mix and those tend to be more friendly and a lot more curious. Or, maybe it's just that Calliope is a brat.

Anyways, the kittens are about 4 weeks old. They will probably live with us for a few weeks until they are ready to go to new homes. I'm sure someone will take them if I put the word out.

Bleh. I am tired of the hotness. When will summer be over??

I just got done cleaning the rodent condo. The babies were not happy when I stuffed them in the little travel cage, but I can't trust them to be good without supervision. 2 of the 3 older ones promptly went to my side of the couch and fell asleep in a sheet. The other kept checking to see what I was doing. Everyone is currently raiding the food dishes and playing around.

The 3 babies are doing really well...for the most part. Blinkie has got to be the most hyper rat I have ever had. It is only a matter of time before she decides to become our new floor rat. She is already jumping all over the place and climbs everything she can find (especially me).

I came home from work today to see 3 noses sticking up out of the hammock. Closer inspection revealed 3 more noses. That was the first time I have seen all 6 curled up together.

After seeing the kitty pics NA posted, I had to look at the condo to remind myself why I don't have cats.

I'm picking up a thread from elsewhere here because I do not want to derail that thread, nor do I want to start a new thread.

I posted this in the "American Story" thread about my Great Aunt.

...the "baby" being born in 1905, currently living in Seattle and would be happy to tell you all about those 103 (and a half) years in between.
I'm dumbstruck.

10 minutes after I posted this, my mother called. My Aunt Raie, of whom I just wrote above, died sometime last night or this morning.

At 76, she moved to Redmond Washington. In short time, she became friends with the mayor and an influential and well respected member of her community. She lived her life believing that "only boring people get bored" and never once chose to sit back and do nothing.

And I made no joke when I said she'd be happy to tell you about it. While her body finally made her last couple of years physically problematic, she never lost an ounce of her wits. Or her desire to share it with you.

She will be missed. I'll have a cup of proper tea tonight for you. I just wish I could read the leaves.

GD, your aunt sounds like quite a lady. I hope she is remembered as much as she will be missed.

And yes, do treasure those storries.

I remember pushing my grandad around in a wheelchair at DL back in the 1970's just a few years before he passed away. He was born in 1889, and was telling me about the first time he saw a "Horseless Carrige". He and a friend had stopped for the night at a stable at the side of the road. They tended to their horses and laid down on the hay and went to sleep. They hadn't noticed that two stalls over a car had parked for the night (old habbits die hard, I suppose;) ). Well early in the morning they awoke to this loud noise that startled them and the horses. They jumped up to see this catraption pulling away down the road.

Remember the stories- and pass them on.

In 5 ... 4 ... 3.... 2 ... incoming kitten pics!

Yesterday, we worked on getting Jack the beagle more used to riding in the car. We drove around the countryside, past roads with names like Beaver Dam and Goose Creek, past a paper mill that is about to close and wipe out a little town, past a flock of sandhill cranes in a cranberry bog.

Soon, Jack relaxed and began to enjoy himself. We stopped several times for him to stretch his legs and - most importantly for a beagle - sniff around. On the homestretch, the white noise of a car in motion lulled him to sleep.

Yes, Jack the beagle is my baby. http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e192/Helen_3894/knitting670.jpg

Yay! Finally some possibly good news for a change! :)

My friend William in San Antonio just spent a week down in Florida with his family. After a visit with his grandparents, he spent a few days with the rest of his family who were staying at the Shades of Green at Walt Disney World. William's father is a member of the Disney Vacaton Club and has more than enough points for himself and it is possible that at some point he may allow William and I to use some!

So at this time (so I don't jinx it) I'll say it is possible that I may get to go to Disney World next year. Who knows if it will end up happening what with me and my bad luck with these kind of things lately. LOL

Thanks to an awesome sale at Fresh & Easy, we now have a freezer FULL of meat.

Up until July 8th, they have fresh "grill packs" on sale for just a mere $4.99. They include: 8 pieces of seasoned chicken, 4 hamburgers, and 4 mild sausages. Everything is very fresh, and the chicken is super tasty.

We bought 11 packs, and had two $5-off coupons. We took everything out of the trays and consolidated it into freezer bags. So, 44 burgers, 44 sausages, and 88 pieces of chicken cost us only $45.

We'll be eating quite well for a good month or two! :D

It was well worth the savings for the hour it took me to bag it all up.

I don't normally go out of my way to compliment tampon commercials, but I just saw a really funny one. These women are getting off the plane in Hawaii all excited, and then this chick in a green skirt suit shows up to greet one of them. "Hello Mother Nature"... and Mother Nature responds "Here's your monthly gift!" And the chick is all "Gee... thanks."

And for the rest of the ad, the red gift box represents that thing which we would rather not have represented literally on daytime (or any) tv.

Wow, to write it out it doesn't sound cute at all... but it was.

Oh yeah, then at the end they're all laying out on the beach and Mother Nature creeps by and is about to give the "present" to another one of the girls, decides not to bother, looks around and goes, "Ooh! Newlyweds!" and runs off.

I rarely go to my old fora or social networking sites because they are just so much paler compared to my 3-D networking world. FaceSpace-sites...meh: they require coddling. Twitter? No. I sent my son a text message once and got OMG U txtd me MOM. Is that the level of communication I want with my nearest and dearest? No.

I like the 3-D virtual world where I'm now a builder, script-fu mistress, animator, sim-owner AND a really good friend to people all over this planet. Second Life rocks. And a barometer of sorts is that my kid is all over me to get him on the adult grid. It is not going to happen, but I guess I've got the cool points in the bank again.

Oh but the point of this post was to say where I'd been, and why I'd been gone. As for good info, try this. (http://www.kateconnick.com/library/cushingsdisease.html)

I have to say that I've had more dog diagnosed with Cushings and NOT have it. Diabetes is often mistake for Cushings, has Rex been tested for diabetes? I'm not sure why vets seem to jump to the Cushings diagnosis right away, but it's not uncommon.

As for treatment, it al depending on what type of Cushings it is. It is treatable and, depending on the age if Rex, it would be a good idea to try and treat him. Once the symptoms of Cushing are under control, the dog can live a very happy life. Its certainly not a horrible, grim diagnosis. The goal would be to make sure Rex is a comfortable as possible and treatment will do that.

It shows me as a young boy sitting in ftont of a roaring fireplace waiting for Santa. There are three stockings hung (for both my parents and me), a plate of cookies and a cat is at my side. the stocking is very special to me and is starting to show wear. Thus last Christmas I decided to retire so it does not get completely damaged due to use. So I have been on the lookout for a new stocking to use this Christmas and I have just found it!

Oooh... that's not what I was thinking, but that's an interesting idea! Very small. :)

I was thinking in between the rows of little Mickeys, in a delicate, smallish cursive.

That's also another good idea! Thanks! :)

Google just came out with lively today - the description of it sounds pretty similar to second life.

I disagree. Lively (http://www.lively.com/html/landing.html) is nothing more than a series of 3D chat rooms. Unlike SL, you can't create content or own land, and there is no economy.

Am I the only one that shies away from any type of live chat?

I like the message board format. It gives one time to reflect upon the prose of others, craft a delicate response, step out for a dump, wait for a reply, carefully read responses to your response, do a little actual work, research the depths of the Internet to support your assertion that the initial response was clearly flawed, get drunk, and post a total drunken rage.

The pace of it all makes me happy. Live chats always seem to end up as:

- Hey
- Hey
- What's new?
- Nothing, you?
- Same.

I think you have hit the nail on the head with that idea. If I am going to do a live chat...it is almost always on Skype where I think it is easier to communicate.

Monday morning I'm back at work at the zoo. After that it's four day weeks at the zoo, plus eight shows a week through August 10. Monday and Tuesday evenings and Friday daytime will be my only down time.

That reminds me of the story of How the Angel Got On Top of the Christmas Tree:

One Christmas Eve, long, long ago, Santa was having a difficult night. Half the elves were down with the flu. One of the reindeer had a sore hoof, and refused to be harnessed. The machine that makes the doll heads was broken, and they were out of red paint for the wagons. He and Mrs Claus had a huge argument, and she had gone home to her mother's. To top it all off, an angel was there to deliver the Christmas tree and kept asking him where he wanted it set up.

finally Santa had had enough, and in a fit of temper. he told the angel exactly where she could put the Christmas tree.

And that, boys and girls, is why there is an angel on top of the Christmas tree!

They have this meal thingy setup where you get the pasta, plus salad and a 1/2 size dessert for $11.99. What I don't get is that the pasta alone is ALSO $11.99 - and honestly... I don't think the portion of pasta was much smaller, if at all. So we're all totally stuffed and have leftovers :)

Worked out to about $16/pp. If you account for the leftovers, the per-meal on that is pretty cheap. :)

I saw The Drowsy Chaperone at the Ahmanson last night. Total theatre geek heaven! If you can get there, go! Super extra bonus: At my market earlier that day, I was chatting with a new customer and mentioned I was coming back downtown later to see The Drowsy Chaperone. She says, "I'm in it!" I say, assuming that she's one of the millions of chorus people I'm sure are in the show, "What are you playing, so I can watch for you?" She says,"The chaperon." We have a great chat about theatre, selling cheese for a living, and being nominated for a Tony. So, I ask if we can meet her backstage after the show, and get a tour.

Ladies and gentlemen, last night I appeared on the stage of the Ahmanson Theatre.

Of course, it was after the show, and the audience had gone home, but, the set was magnificent and I was in heaven. Nancy Opel is a swell actor and the chaperon is a boozy grand diva of a character. All I can say is that it's amazing how my psyche can house envy, admiration, and sheer joy in such massive and equal amounts.

I loved that the guy sitting next to me, with his girlfriend, was geeking out as hard as I was. I'm betting that she's now assembling the clues she's going to need for the eventual "talk" they're going to have.

I've decided on a strategy in my own personal campaign against Prop 8:

1. Remind everyone who supports gay marriage to get out there and vote NO.

2. Try to convince those on the fence to see the reasons why it's the right thing to do

and the other part of my strategy:

3. Rather than antagonize those who will never be convinced to support gay marriage, provide them with enough arguments against voting yes and then politely asking them to abstain.
