MouseWife here you go this is a link to my short video clip of Bon Jovi doing part of Bad Medicine on 4/5/08 at the Honda Center. You can see why i react the way i do to them live. One of my favorite songs done live for various reasons. Plus this was the song i would get reaction attention from Richie for his sign i make plus my first time i got Jon's hand in mine and part of the lyrics sung to me the night before. :) If you ever want to go to a concert let me know. I'm saving up for next tour.

Thanks to nurturing some of my connections, I just got a call to shoot a product commercial this fall. I'll be meeting with the clients next week to go over the scope of the project and discuss costs and hopefully secure a retainer deposit. :)

Still haven't heard back from the other job prospects yet, but I'm not giving up hope, and am still pressing forth on other opportunities.

In the meantime, I'm going to turn out a couple more spots from the Hollywood shoot, because those types of connections are worth more than gold in my industry. It's definitely a people business that requires social skills. So, I need to stay on top of that.

Keep moving forward! :D

So I spent most of last night at the hospital visiting a friend who had a mild heart attack on Tuesday. Thankfully he should be ok. He's 40. Smokes like a chimney and is a bit over weight (I'd say an "average" amount for a man his age and build) but otherwise picture perfect blood pressure and cholesterol.

No running it backwards! I'd really like to not relive the majority of this past year, thankyouverymuch.

In other news, I just filed a formal BBB complaint against the so-called independent "network" that still hasn't paid me for last year's work. Sadly, I was very willing to work around any financial problems they are having, but seeing as they make a point to avoid me and then treat me rudely when I do get in touch with them, they've had it coming for a looooooong time. If they don't respond to this complaint, then it looks like I'll be dragging them into small claims finally.

Businesses should not get away with treating people like crap.

He hoped to be able to return to teaching science at Target Range Middle School on Friday.Today's homework:

A man is traveling on a bike at 25MPH towards a bear 10 feet away. How much time does that man have to ponder his unfulfilling waste of a life, his general contempt for his job and the students he teaches, and to curse God and the festering cesspool of a universe She's created before he impacts the bear.

Answer: Fvck this, half of you are going to drop out anyway and the other half are just going to drain your parents' bank account while you bullsh*t your way through college and play video games on their couch until you're 35, unmarried, and hoping Devry won't ask for a resume.

Alex

25 miles per hour = 25 miles per (60 minutes/hour)*1 hour = 25 miles per (60 seconds/minute)(60 minutes/hour)*1 hour = (5280 feet/mile)*25 mile = (60 seconds/minute)(60 minutes/hour)*1 hour.

All of that reduces to 132,000 feet/3600 seconds which equals 36.66667 feet per second.

Since we know that he was traveling 36.666667 feet/second but want to know how much he traveled in one second we cross multiply the fractions to get 36.6666667x = 10. Solving for x by dividing 36.66666667 into 10 you get the final answer of 0.27272727....

However, since the initial word problem only provide 2 significant digits
the answer must be limited to 0.27

Too complicated. You look at it and you see he travels 10 feet in 1/13200 of an hour. Divide 3600 by 13200 and there's your answer.

Alex
09-10-2008, 04:40 PM
Not repeating. See final sentence in "showing my work." Since the figures given are not absolutes the math can only be done to the precision of the input figures. In this case, two significant digits.

Love,

Is this the person I am thinking of?Possibly not. These are a couple people who have apparently tried to cheat others out of money too, according to other BBB complaints that I just found about them. They "hire" people to shoot children's sports events and then broadcast them on local networks. They owe me just under $500, and have mostly ignored me for some time now. Well, now they'll have the flame of the BBB's torch under their asses. I can't wait to see how they respond.

I've found some info on a pitch-and-putt billed as the oldest golf course in the world where you can hire a set of clubs. That sounds like a good option. As much as I'd love to spend a day on the links, I can't really justify dedicating the bulk of a vacation day to it when CP doesn't golf. A 6 hole pitch-and-putt is the perfect compromise.

I'm guessing "deferred pay" is more than payment after services received? Or is it customary to pay in advance for video services?"Deferred pay" means "We hope to get sponsors for our project someday, and if we do, we'll pay you!" which really means there's a .0000000001% chance of even seeing $1 come out of it.

As for regular video services, it's common to receive a deposit at the start of a project, and the rest upon delivery. But, for single day, last minute shoots, it's common to just receive pay at the end of the day once the tapes are handed in.

And, having been screwed over by that "network" from last year, I will never hand over tapes without immediate payment again. So, if someone doesn't have the money that day, I'll only give them the tapes once they do.

Also, I've had my fill of completely gratis work. The Hollywood shoot was the last for me, because that gained me some serious contacts for future paying work. (There are one-time things I'll still do for friends though as my schedule allows, since that's what friends are for.)

I just ain't workin' for free no more. Show me the money, dammit.

Well, unfortunately, because there are so many people in this city trying to break in to the business. And some of them are, unfortunately for us, from wealthy families or of independent-enough means that they can afford to do the deferred pay thing. It doesn't mean it's not possible to break in without it, but it does make it a challenge for all of us!

There was literally just a few-minute window where you could have purchased the stock at around $3 before NASDAQ halted trading and then it shot back up again.

Laura, that's awful. People breed dogs, seeing the high prices that puppies bring, but a private breeder (who has no idea what they are doing) isn't going to get that. I was told once that by the time you factor in food, care, shots, vet stuff, and all that- breeding isn't profitable unless you have many dogs (puppy mill, with its own problems).

I don't understand people who want to breed the dogs. Is it an ego thing? We have a *lot* of dogs. Stop breeding unless you actually know what you're doing. Even then- chill a bit until we get this stray thing under control. Our Ottis came from a family that intended to breed him, and I'm glad we got him because they have no idea what they are doing. It's true that breeding a male is less stressful for a male than a female, but still.

Why the heck do people expect creative services for free??? :(

And that's why I sell delicious crispy cheese for a living. Somehow, it's thought appropriate for stage actors to work for free, or even pay monthly dues to a theatre company. For many, the hope is that, one night, sitting out in the audience, will be an agent or producer that saves them and makes them a star. For others, like me, the love of performing far outweighs the resentment that sets in when you realize that everyone else is getting paid. Stage manager, lighting and sound, set design, director, even the friggin' house manager. Sad thing is, stand up for yourself and there's a never ending line of actors standing behind you who will gladly step into your role. We are, as a whole, a needy and insecure bunch, all too aware that we are easily replaceable, and that a reputation as a whiner precedes you. I've left one theatre company (The Knightsbridge) for demanding monthly dues. Glendale Center Theater at least pays a small stipend, 10 or 20 bucks a performance. It's a small measure of respect. Unfortunately, I haven't done a show in 2 years, because I've been occupied with growing my business to the point where it will support my free acting habit. Every actor I know has a "real" job, which is a shame when you know how much hard work goes into putting on a show.

This is a rant that has been simmering for a while. I love doing theatre, it's what I do best, and it's where I'm happiest. I hate that it doesn't pay.

I myself can appreciate the looks of a man. Some I even find downright hot (I share my wife's enjoyment of Dean Cain's chest for example).

But you're right; most straight men are too insecure to be able to say that another man looks good.

I can acknowledge that another man is attractive. In fact, I often dress in drag as a handsome man myself (if drag is defined as dressing as the gender you prefer not to sleep with).

Somewhat more seriously, I do sometimes question how much of the gay drag stuff one sees is actually a tribute to the ladies and how much is mocking.

Alex

Honestly, I have no problem saying a man is attractive. However, none of them are attractive (sexually) to me so at best I am making a guess at what other people will find attractive and that is something of a crap shoot.

Brad Pitt (particularly a decade ago) is easy. George Clooney is easy (and I've admitted many times that he's an attractive man, he makes me want to wear nice clothes). But Viggo Mortensen in the LotR movies? Johnny Depp? All the ugly men that get drooled over simply because they have well cut torso muscles?

When I offer my opinion that none of them are attractive, it isn't because I'm scared to do so. I honestly just don't see it.

JWBear
09-12-2008, 10:17 AM
Because sometimes there is a difference between "attractive" and "OMFG... That's HOT!". Normally, I don't find Viggo Mortensen attractive, but in LOTR he was damn sexy.

BarTopDancer
09-12-2008, 10:21 AM
Viggo in LotR = hot. Viggo otherwise? Not so much. But I love the scruffy look. It does surprise me that I like his long hair since I'm more of a short hair on guys type of gal ;)

Johnny in some things is hot and others, not so much. I never found him attractive in 21 Jump Street, but as he got older he became more attractive. Brad Pitt now is hot. Several years ago? Not so much. George Clooney gets hotter as he gets older too.

I can also admit when I find a woman attractive. It doesn't mean I want to do her, just means she's attractive. I think for men, finding a woman hot equates with wanting to sleep with them. So if they find a man hot they may be concerned that others will think they want to sleep with said man.

Somewhat more seriously, I do sometimes question how much of the gay drag stuff one sees is actually a tribute to the ladies and how much is mocking.
I have seen shows where it is no doubt a 100% tribute to the diva being imitated. (One I remember was a wonderful tribute to that blue diva in The Fifth Element. The performer was a huge fan of the film. She was awesome and a dead on match to the actress in the film.)

I have seen shows where it is mockery. (Someone dressing up as Amy Winehouse staggering around the stage.)

Sometimes it is both.

Some are merely being themselves on stage, feeling more comfortable wearing a dress and singing or lip syncing.

Actually, from all the drag shows I have seen, I can't think of one where it was a man portraying a woman to put down that woman for being a woman.

From numerous industry folks I've spoken with, they've all pretty much said that wedding videographers are generally thought of as a joke and not very respected when it comes to "real" work like television series, etc.

Well, one of the videographers on a wedding board that I frequent landed a nicely paying television series editing gig that will be airing later this fall, and all he had to show for a reel was his wedding stuff, because it's all he's ever done. (And he's local to here, so it's not like he resides in a small market with almost no competition.)

Now, I'm just totally confused.

Should I risk showing some of my wedding stuff on my reel? Or in the very least, include it on my samples DVD as "extra" chapters?

Maybe it's that weddings show that we know how to tell a story? Is that it??

I'm going to look over his wedding samples and see what the connection is... if any.

I would try a shorter reel with whatever you have this isn't weddings, plus a longer one with, send them out in equal numbers and see what gets the best response, the shorter one w/out weddings or the fuller one with.

I'm not thinking so much of drag shows as of gay parades where the fellows walk along dressed in conservative dresses and heels while carrying a prim handbag. I can find it funny, but I'm never entirely sure what the joke is, and there does seem to be an element of scorn there.

I find JWBear's avatar VERY sexy. Also, Pitt and Clooney. Definately. But then I also find Hugh Lawry (sp?) who plays house sexy too.
Hugh Lawrie is sexy because he's reasonably handsome and does a number of things well--acting, music, writing. In the same vein, George Clooney's attractiveness has increased as his acting and general body of work have improved. I'm afraid Brad Pitt's personal relationships have diminished his attractiveness to me. He treated Gwyneth terribly, there always seemed something shallow about his relationship with Jennifer, and he seems slightly diminished by Angelina.

Same here! I've been a pleasant, happy girl these days...

Yes, today has been quite an excellent day for football.

I suppose, if you're a USC fan. Thankfully, I'm much less of an Ohio fan, so it all worked out. USC's really really doing well this year. I just wish the rest of the Pac-10 could keep up with them, so we could really see what they're worth. It's ever-so-much why I think the BCS needs a major overhaul. Take SC and Ohio and what-not out of the comfort zone of their lesser conferences and give everyone else the chance to play against teams of their caliber. Oh, and SC's quarterback is really cute. Oh, and when you say SC in the south, you confuse the locals. Just sayin'...

And seriously - Michigan losing in such a fashion to Notre Dame?!
Wow! And I was hoping that Spurrier's Gamecocks would beat Georgia because it would F with the BCS standings a bit - they had a chance, and I didn't think Georgia was playing all that well (at least not as well as the hype that surrounds the team would lead you to assume), but just couldn't do jack after the second half. So disappointing.

Oh well...

Hi everybody!
Yesterday involved taking the hound to the doggie day-care so they can pass her temperament, and she'll be allowed to play with the other dogs. I'm hoping that will help her anxiety levels, and energy levels, and resocialize her to dogs. This is the first time in a long time she's been a solo dog, and she's none too fond of it, in spite of getting more walks than before. We took her to lunch with us, and she lay down while we did some homework. Stocked up on cheese and yummies for the evening's cemetary screening (Pee Wee's Big Adventure), and went down for that. Quite a lot of people, Paul Rubens showed up to talk to the crowd, and it turns out to be a funny movie. Late getting home, though, and for us personally it was quite a mess from start to finish; badly executed plans.

Today we slept in and went mountain biking. We scouted the route I'll be leading for a beginner ride the end of this month, making sure I know where I'm going. Usually I follow somebody else, but I'm leading this one!

I've been reading a lot of news stories about the Metrolink collision; terrible stuff. But it was interesting to see how they secured people to backboards and the baskets, and the Ventura County Star had a really good picture of the Sherriff helicopter. Amazing how they got some of the people out of those cars. This is stuff I'm technically trained to do, and it helps to see it in action.

I've always wondered why gay men aren't afraid to find women beautiful, but straight men cannot find it in themselves to admit to another man being attractive (even if not attractive to them, per se).

It's a pathetic fear.

This response is somewhat late to the party, but I'll still make it.

Perhaps in some cases it's less fear and more annoyance to the responses their statements get. For instance, I am definitely on the straight side of the Kinsey but I definitely can admit that I find women attractive without feeling the impulse to have sex with them. Yet every time I do around YOU, my dear, you tell me I'm gay.

Now, I'm not afraid of being called gay. I'm not even afraid of being gay. But I'm a big ol' breeder. I like the boy-parts. And I find it generally annoying to be labeled with something, even in jest, when it's not really my label. So I don't mention it as much anymore.

ok, I so wasnt going to address this, but eh...wth. forgive me, Im in a mood

did anyone ever think that maybe its the phrasing thats the problem?

now, the following examples do portay a somewhat less open minded set than frequent our shores here on LoT, but I think you'll get the point Im trying to make.

__________

woman "honey...do you think hes attractive?"

guy "WTF? I'M NOT ATTRACTED TO MEN!" (any possibility on having this conversation is now gone)

-vs-

woman "honey....that guy looks really good, dont you think?"
guy "eh. I could look that good if I paid $5k for a suit, another $500 for a haircut and had a personal trainer"

the result:
a) he has now admitted the guy looked good....move on.
b) its not a fight or a challenge to his heteronessosssity,so hes not
c) he knows now he needs a haircut and a new suit (good luck with the trainer thing)

see my point? WE, the male-hetero collective, know full well when someone looks good, male or female.

the problem is the WORD "attractive"

IMHO YMMV

Aw, it's really OK. You're not the only one who's called me gay on account-a being able to say I can see the attractiveness potential of women - others have done it far more than you.

And I am certain you were doing it in jest... but society's jesting might just be the reason others balk or cringe at admitting that they find those out of their standard gender preference attractive!

Obviously she can't enforce but she herself uses no more than two. As kids we always got in trouble for using too much toliet paper in our bathroom.

And just for some morning TMI, when I went up to help her after her last surgery and I was the one who had to help her wipe, the two sheet limit was enforced. Ewww is the nicest thing I can say about that.

It was during some of the fires in the Angeles forest, so it was displacing a lot of animals. That morning on my way to work, I saw a small black bear, 2 deer, and a coyote, all within a 5 mile stretch. And, the worst part - traffic was slowed to a crawl, so there was plenty of time to notice all the carnage.

It was a really depressing day. :(

While I think some of them deserve stupidity awards, I think some of the others were ridiculous in incriminating the people, like the one losing her teaching degree for posting her "drunken pirate" photo. People are too quick to get their panties in a twist over stupid crap. I'm betting the people who passed the judgement on her have quite a few "disturbing" secrets themselves.

So tomorrow is devoted to studying. Got to stay off the LoT....
