Everytime I would say, "So?" to my grandmother, she'd reply, "So, so suck your toe all the way to Mexico."

Sometimes she'd alter it and say "Tokyo" but she'd pronounce it "Toe-Kee-Yo".

Although, I did accomplish getting my resale permit for the business, and pick up a missing part for our pantry shelves from IKEA.

Now, I'm just finding a reason to go unpack all our shoes and organize the shoe rack. And, to finish laying flooring tile in the kitchen cabinets so we can bring all the dishes over tonight.

I know that stuff won't take long, but meh.....

They will be made out of insulation board using a dremell tool and spray paint. The subjects of the tombstone are fake "dearly departed" pets.

I have done my terrifying deed for the week.

Apparently it's SOP for people with an out-of-town interview to call other chambers in the area to see if they can get what is called a "leveraging" interview. Usually nothing comes of this, but everyone does it, and if you don't you're a goober. I guess the thinking is that perhaps Judge X might have initially said "oh, no point in interviewing the chick from Seattle since she's so far away", but upon hearing I'll be in the area already might say "oh, well let's give her a looksee." Since they get hundreds of applications for each position, anything to get yourself out of the vast pile and actually considered is supposed to be advantageous.

I got 4 "already filled" (one very snotty - if it bugs you that much to have people call, maybe update your listing that says the position is open, m'kay?), 2 "we don't start reviewing until after the first of the year" (which is usually a lie, but whatever), 1 "I have no idea; I'll ask and call you back", and 2 "we'll pull your resume and take a look". So, I guess that's something.

Probably nothing will come of it, but the important part is that I did it. Not many people know that I actually have a fairly substantial phone phobia. Obviously I am able to make phone calls, and do quite often, but the more intimidating the call, the harder it is for me and the more I panic. This was pretty damn high on the intimidation scale. But I made the calls. Yay me.

Capt Jack

I work with a true blond. Tonight I almost feel bad for her. She was trying to get a question answered by our warehouse supervisor. He kept dodging her. She grew frustrated and called him a Dick in front of his petty, little assistant. PLA told him what she had said and he got in her face about it. Our Elder owner came in and saw the aftermath and asked her what was wrong. So she told him, in great detail. She was starting to feel better when someone else in the showroom asked her if she told Elder Owner what she had called the warehouse supervisor. She replied that she had indeed told EO what she had said.

She is now wondering if she will still have a job on Monday. Guess what the EO's name is...

He's 15 weeks old, born on July 11 (we contemplated naming him Slurpee or Big Gulp for 7/11  ) He's a manx, with just a little nubbin of a tail. He has kinda long legs for his size, but that may be a growth spurt happening. He's a lovable little thing, likes to sit with me and sleep.

Your IT dept should be making sure this stuff is on battery back-up. That's one of the reasons I couldn't leave. Stuff kept blipping because our battery back-ups weren't working as they should. Tell them to check the battery back up of their switch.

No, that was freaking hilarious.

Actually, when you think about it, for homeowners in financial trouble who have been unable to sell their homes, this (smoke) cloud may have a silver lining.

Also going to be good for unsuccessful sellers whose homes didn't burn, but who are willing to lease out their homes to wait out the market - many insurance settlements include the costs of renting an equivalent property.

I FINALLY FOUND IT!

Who knew a small house was so hard to find?

2 bedrooms, 1 bath on pier and beam (not too many of those left), hardwood floors, screened back porch, huge, check that HUGE back yard, all of it completely surrounded by woods at the very end of a cul de sac. It looks like the 30's back there, I swear. Due to the terrain, there will be no additional development anywhere around it.

You can drop a ball bearing on any floor in the place and it's like dropping a cue ball on a solid table. She ain't rolling.

Did I mention it has a large tulip poplar tree on the front lawn, along with an OLD dogwood tree that's been struck by lightning?

Yes, it has to be rewired. Yes, it needs central air and heat. Yes, the plumbing and the insulation and the drywall repair and floor refinishing and shed demolition and the 2 big trees that have to come down yes yes yes YES!

Closing is scheduled for next Friday. I rule.

And my Mother will be happy there. She'll have a garden again. I can't wait to see what she does with it. She'll be less than a mile away, so it will be easy to check in on her (she's 70). The place is on my drive home from work. It doesn't get any better.

But as in everything, all is not roses. She likes it just the way it is. I, however, can see the wisdom, nay necessity, of moving one wall and opening a doorway to a new deck out back where she could entertain.

I'll probably let her win this one. For a while.

I'm not sure if I can do more than one, sadly. I will have to remain on "will see" on whether if I can do one or the other or both.

Um, for those who can, SUNDAY night at Katella.

I read two parties (consisting of four people) say they can't go on Saturday, and one person say they can't go on Sunday.

Pfft, that person was Erica ... and she's abandoning us for Utah. Like she even counts. :p

Well, BTD and I were talking earlier in the thread, albeit briefly (we kept mostly to IMs), before the idea grew to other people, about going to Katella on Sat. It's still a maybe, especially if there might be a party. My time is stretched to an absolute max, so I'll just have to see, or cave in and do both, only to have further stress this upcoming week.

I'm almost thinking Saturday is just as bad around dinner time and it might be easier to go somewhere, such as a party, at night.

We might be able to make something late Saturday night, depending on when we get back from the Valley.

We'll happily meet the Sunday night group at Katella.

Yeah, some of those threads grew like wildfire.

Bottom line, if I did not miss anything, a couple of way too close calls, some respiratory issues, at least one clueless management team, a lot of "damn this stuff smells" and "I hate ash" comments. Oh and just a few really bad puns.

There's a little place up in Ventura that has a Monte Cristo sandwich: Pirate's Grub n Grog. Though inside, it's more of a sports bar than anything else. Decent food though.

I tried to bike today: the air looked decent, and didn't smell much of smoke at all. I rode with Shawn to work and then came back home, 5 miles or so. Within 20 minutes my chest was hurting so I decided I couldn't bike to the college. Sadly that means riding the bus. :: sigh::

Girl's gotta try, right? NA, I hope your breathing stays good.

Disneyland?A) Expired pass (and I don't feel like doing renewal tonight)
B) Barely had the energy to drive home

After I get caught up on the 19 (and counting) new messages, I am off to park my lazy kiester in front of the idiot box.

Before the hassle even starts may I remind everyone that the Sox were down 3-1 in their last series and they won- it is entirely possible that the Rockies can come back and win this thing.

So neener neener!

Well, without the DH, Ortiz might not play. On the other hand, the way the Rockies have been hitting, I think Ortiz should pitch.
