Careful how many grapes you feed Poohdog. My vet told me grapes (and raisins) are bad for doggies. I was surprised. It's kind of funny that he's competitive like that though.

He got away with 2, but after a few tries he gave up on them both and she ended up with her grapes.

After the whole grape thing I was ouside, talking on the phone and sweeping a section of the patio when Chicken started making some really odd noises. Poohdog went to investigate. At the same time I was telling him to leave her alone something flew up on the patio. She had gotten ahold of a toad, it was small, but still a toad. I had never seen a toad play possum before. But, then I had never seen a toad fly before either. It landed on its back. I thought it was dead, but after a few minutes it flipped over. I swept it back into the grass.

Between her pecking at my toes and tushy, going after the dangly thingys on my cell phone and her interaction with Poohdog, she is very entertaining.

I was going to check out the last article from Al over at MiceAge (http://miceage.com/allutz/al082807a.htm) and saw a link for a news article:

Disney banning Heavy Metal acts at the Anaheim DtD House of Blues - 9/6/07 (http://www.micechat.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2127245#post2127245)

One thing that amused me in the article was

...by moving the first date of The Black Tyranny tour... to The Glass House in Pomona, CA (located at 200 W. Second Street). <snip> Any fans unable to make the 70-mile trip to The Glass House...Umm... I am not sure what route one is taking to get from DtD to Pomona, but a more direct route (straight up the 57) is only about 25 miles (http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=m&q2=200+W.+Second+Street%2C+pomona%2C+ca&q1=disneyland&trf=0&lon=-117.839012&lat=33.933676&mag=7).

Darkbeer (the author of the article) is not to blame for this gross factual error - he was just quoting the band's web site.

I can't wait for Saturday night!!! www.bakersfieldbrews.com One of my close friends buys my ticket every year for my birthday. David was always our designated driver. I had figured this year I would just watch what I drank. Nope. She had it all figured out. Her family is going to play Taxi Service for our drunken butts.

And Saturday morning I finally get my hair trimmed. I am going darker with the color. I am really ready for a change.

Saturday late morning/early afternoon I get to go on a mini road trip. My sister is going to watch Nickolas, so I have to take him up to Tehachapi. He is all excited about spending the night at his cousins' house for the first time. Lorene is all excited that she finally gets to keep him over night (at least that is what she told Mom).

I am determined to have a great pre-birthday weekend.

I had to withdraw from the moot court competition.

The students on the moot court board this year can't be bothered to do the actual work associated with their little resume booster. So, they delayed getting the in-house competition started, delayed getting results to us, and didn't co-ordinate the in-house competition with the regional competition. So, I'm supposed to sign my name to a piece of paper swearing that I'll compete, that won't be turned in until next week, and then - and only then - when the regional competition processes it, they'll assign us a side.

So, I'd have a 50/50 chance of being assigned to the opposite side and having to REWRITE the entire brief in about 10 days to meet the brief submission deadline. And the moot court board's response? Oh well - take it up with the regional competition people. THEY should be doing that. THEY should be getting us coaches.

Meanwhile, other schools that signed up their teams in May had all this time to work on their briefs. But SU wants to send its students into competition with 10 days to work on it.

It's completely ridiculous. I can not re-write the brief, prepare both sides of the oral argument, recruit my own coach -- and continue with my other coursework.

So, they said I had to withdraw. So I did.

Once again - any time I accomplish something, any time it's one step forward it's two steps backwards.

I have no idea who this is credited to. But I like it and I think that people here will like it too:

The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 CUPS OF COFFEE

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle,
When 24 Hours in a day is not enough,
Remember the mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in
Front of him. When the class began, wordlessly,
He picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar
And proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the
Jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open
Areas between the golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full..
They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full.
The students responded with an unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee
From under the table And poured the entire contents
Into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand.
The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided,
"I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things - God, family, children, health,
Friends, and Favorite passions -- things that if everything else was
Lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, house, and
Car.

The sand is everything else --the small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued,
"there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff,
You will never have room for the things that are
Important to you.

So...

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play With your children. Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.
"Take care of the golf balls first --the things that really matter.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired
What the coffee represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked".
It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem,
there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

I know you're all dying to hear the latest in the saga of this stupid moot court competition.

So, finally they brought in the moot court adviser, who this year happens to be the nice coach from my last competition. She knows me, and knows my work ethic, and knows that if I say I can't do something it's because there is no conceivable way I can do something and not just that I'm lazy or recalcitrant.

I think what happened is that usually SU runs this competition. So, in the past they've always just managed to assign their teams the same sides as in the in-house. (The other schools don't use the same problem for their in-house competitions, so that's not an issue for them.) And when they decided to let another school host this year they didn't consider what it would mean once that school had control over side assignments.

So, our school is talking to the other school, and if they can get us the same side then my team mate and I can compete. And if they can't get us the same side, my former coach agrees that with the clerkship interview and whatnot that I have other priorities unforeseen at the time I entered the competition, so they will find a way for my team mate to compete with a new partner, so that she won't have to be penalized. And I will be excused without penalty.

So, now I wait to see what happens.

Just got home!

We had a blast. My friend's son was our taxi service. Her aunt and cousin went with us. It was great. Having her aunt there was like having my mom with me. I could not have asked for a better present.

The other friend (who's b-day is 1 week after mine) decided to ride over with someone else, and just meet us there. To me it was pretty rude, since GiAnna (friend #1) bought our tickets. We finally met up with them right as we were getting ready to leave.

I even got waited on by a quasi-reality show-whore-celebrity. Pumpkin from Flavor of Love and Charm School is from Bakersfield. After Flavor of Love she was fired as a substitute teacher. Whe was manning the Michelobe truck. I thought she looked familiar. When she brought me by beer I asked her if she was who I thought she was. She didn't want to admit it, but later I saw her posing for pictures.

At 8 I called my sister to check on Boy and to say goodnight. They both (him and Lorene) got a laugh out of where I was calling from. I was sitting at the feet of a cop, drinking a beer. There were cops everywhere. After I said goodnight to Nick I looked up at the cop and told him my 10 year old son was pleased that I was safe and amused that I was dirnking next to a cop. He laughed and then had to take off in a hurry. They had spotted a bit of trouble down the way from where we were.

There were BPD officers everywhere. It is fun to sit back and people watch at events like this. You could see people getting drunker and drunker as the night wore on.

As for the hair straghtening thing, for those who haven't seen me, I have thick hair that tends to do some major frizzing and poofiing. I hate messing with it, it just seems like a waist of tiome. My neice knows this and took much joy in passing her iron to me.

Ok, I am off the internets now. Using the backspace is killing my pinky. Friends should not let froends type drunk.

pff...get a dog. everything you eat...they think is theirs and glare at you for not sharing, even if they wouldnt eat it (a rarity) on their best day

Heeheehee! I'm giggling at how accurate your post is!

My boss's dog (she was just put down last week :() would always come into my office to visit and I would stuff her little tummy full of treats. It was never enough, and soon, because I spoiled her with "people treats" (like little crackers) she would turn up her little wet nose at her milkbones. They suddenly were beneath her! She became so greedy! I know "people food" isn't the best, but if it was meat, fish or plain crackers, she got 'em. I would give her my entire lunch.

When she slept in my office, I would adjust the thermostat to make sure she was totally comfortable, even if I was chilly (my four legged friends come first). I would open my file cabinets super slowly as not to wake her. My boss was like, "you need to not tell me that you do that".

Whatever! My little buddies always get spoiled. :)

Isn't that half the fun of having critter companions? Spoiling them? :) I don't necessarily spoil ours with treats, though they do get people food sometimes, but I give them enough to show we love them.

And before you think I am being cruel, I do it because it is healthy for them. I don't relish doing it, it is just something I need to do.

Her stew is always "twice baked". She makes it initially in her crock pot and then reheats. Oddly, it ALWAYS (excepting for the camping trip) tastes better when cooked the second time.

I'll see if she is interested.

Dopey thieves steal woman's dwarfs

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Some dopey thieves snatched and grabbed several of Sue Austin's seven dwarfs. "I'm thinking it's just some kids," said the Flint Township resident, who is offering a "no questions asked" reward for the return of the statues.
Stolen from Austin's display are Grumpy, a 2 1/2-foot concrete statue, along with Snow White, Bashful, Sneezy and Dopey. On Sunday, following an anonymous tip to Austin, Dopey was found in a front yard in nearby Davison Township.
Each statue weighs more than 200 pounds, which might be why the thieves decided to leave behind Sleepy, Happy and Doc, The Flint Journal recently reported.
Austin said she saw a similar display about 10 years ago and liked it so much that her husband bought the statues.

Well, tomorrow is the deadline to determine whether I'm mooting or not. If they don't hear back from the regional folks by tomorrow, they're going to have to proceed without me.

However, I might be able to leverage that into something useful...if I can't moot, I could perhaps help coach. That would be less stress, but still be a contribution. And an entirely new bullet point on my resume.

When they finally showed up they had a cake and a baby rat. Like I needed another rat!! but she is uber cute. Her name is Remy. She is a black & white hooded, and so far everyone seems to be getting along well. Nickolas wanted to get her to help ease my pain of having Thud put down on Wednesday, but for the next 72 hours I have 6 rats.

He also tried to talk her into getting a bigger cage...*sigh*

Today was the Girl's second day at her new school- she goes once a week all day, and we do the rest at home. Last week, we were both nervous wrecks as it had been four years since anyone else had taught her, and since her last classroom environment. (Excepting art and dance). Well, today was much easier; she settled right in and when I left I didn't feel like I was abandoning her. I went home and started cleaning out what we semi-jokingly call her 'second bedroom', which is full of toys and furniture that she's either outgrown or we just stash in there until we can get rid of it. Took most of the morning and early afternoon, but it looks waaaay better. Now I have to paint it.

When I picked her up, she looked tired but happy. They had a very busy day and she is doing pretty well with the whole thing. We were nervous because we didn't IEP her and she didn't want to use her old FM system, either. (Helps her hear the teach better, but usually they don't know how to use it properly and it ends up being more of a PITA). It's hard work for her to get the same info as the other kids- she has to really pay attention and use all sorts of visual cues to ascertain if she is missing anything, so she was pretty worn out this afternoon. We went shopping for a new Ipod cover for her and some video games, and about the time we were done my MIL calls from Cleveland (she's visiting my SIL) and informs me that Aunt Sally called her to tell her that our neighborhood was on fire. Now, Aunt Sally is beyond old and usually gets her neighborhoods mixed up, but when we drove over the ridge near our house we could see a large plume of smoke wafting over roughly where our house was. Planes were dropping water on the fire, and as we got closer we could see that it was just down the hill from us. Luckily, they got it out, but that was too close for comfort. It was a long, hot summer and we live in a heavily forested area- wouldn't take much for it to go up!

I think I'll have a drink and hit it.

Stupid car. I took it in because the a/c went out. I knew it would be costly. They are also fixing the 2 other issues, both of which I knew about, but thought I could live with. By the end of today I will be out $1500 that I don't have. But the alternative is buying a new car that I can't afford. *sigh*

Oh, and I have come to the conclusion, I do NOT want a PT Cruiser afterall. That is today's rental car. The thing has no power, the seats are not very comfy and there are quite a few blind spots.

There's a new Pinkberry opening right down the street on Tampa Ave in the Costco shopping center yay...i'm so waiting to go and experience my first one.

Then i get a phone call from a manager who basically she was hired in around february sometime but got fired in may if i do recall (the second time she had a no call no show you have two and you're fired) i was there the day she did had her second one and the store manager said she was fired cuz of it. Well she was rehired and made manager over those who have been there over a year and working our butts off to advance.

Well she calls me saying i was supposed to be at work today at 11:15am no i wasn't...so i pick up the phone as i was almost out the door to run errands. And i tell her that the work schedule is in the clock in room it says i have today off and i work that time tomorrow. So she says to me well that's what is in the manager's office on the break schedule and there is only 1 cashier right now. Well yesterday i was the only cashier at 6pm no one else was there. So she checks the schedule and says that i'm correct and that it's ok but who is supposed to work? Duh look at the work schedule dumbass..lmao i didn't say this but i was thinking it...so she's like don't worry and ignore the messages i left on your voicemail on your cell phone lmao.. It's like ok you're manager figure it out... and i hung up the phone...

Looks like favoritism or something over promoting someone who deserves it to be manager wondering if coporate would appreciate this information...

Kevy, long story short: Since I'm living with my grandma, we're on the same auto insurance policy. I pay for my portion, yada yada. So, when our policy came up again last month, my grandma said she lowered mine by $50 by doing away with coverage for my car, bringing me to the bare minimum to be legal in California - Gee, thanks. I just said okay because I didn't want to deal with it at the time, wrote the check and was done with it.

I'm really happy about that decision.

On the plus side, it really won't cost *that* much. On the downside, *that* much was what I was putting away for the move. I was looking to ease up on my work schedule over the coming months, but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do that.

Home today. Car trouble so I sort of took the day off - but am sort of working from home a bit too. I want to focus - but it's friday and I'm thinking 1. woo-hoo 3 day weekend and 2. boo-hoo stupid car trouble.

Overheating issue. Not only is the fan not working - but the coolant is dirty which, I think, points to a faulty head gasket. Expensive. Bah!!!

Can't I ever just have a car that runs right and then I get to pay it off and have it run right without a car payment. How much is it going to be vs. how much I owe on the damn thing. I shake my fist at you car troubles.

Online stuff points to the model having a known issue with the head gasket failing which really annoys me that they won't do anything about it. Yeah - it's a 1999 - but if you made it wrong to begin with... you get the idea.

eh, you might very well luck out. coolant gets dirty no matter what. if the fan has failed, between replacing that and a good flush n fill it might just fix it.

So then my BIL decided he would but dressed as Mr. Weasley to make it more fun.

My nicece told my mom she wanted to make ice cream from scratch with hand crank. So mom has decided this must be done for the party which starts at 5:30, and the tea is at 2. So we have to get this done before the tea which means spending the morning hand cranking ice cream.

He is also going to get his bike out of my way and fix Nick's back tire. I respoke my request that he spends some quality alone time with his son. I was also able to voice my concerns about the teenager living in his house, watching the kids, while having 5 different MySpace accounts where she talked about drinking and referring to herself as "kind of slutty." I brought up that I felt Nickolas is trying to play us against each other, so be warned. I don't think Nick is doing it conciously, but more out of trying not to be there. He also wants me to be happy, so I wonder if part of what he is saying is because he thinks it is what I want to hear.

Reasonable request but so many cars suck, especially when they get a few miles on them. I hope it's something easy instead of the head gasket. I had to have one replaced on the car I had in high school. Kind of scary driving it across the street to the repair place with coolant shooting out the side of my engine block.

Lashbear finally got an "Out Burger" (how appropriate) in San Francisco. I think this is the general forum, so I don't have to talk about bacon, and I'm allowed to say "Hi" to Mad Monkey Girl.

Susie-Anne would also have said "Hi", but she is having braces fitted to the majority of her teeth, and the sedation required has put her on a different level of "Hi".

I did that in my last car. Driving up the 101, trying to get there to turn in a paper. I couldn't get a hold of my instructor to tell him I had car trouble and my husband was on the way to give me a ride but I was going to be late turning in my paper which means I fail the class and oooohhh the stress.

I get to SBCC and the guy's not even there. He had somebody in the front office collecting the papers. Dangit. If I'd have known that...

I learned that day that the timing belt is part of preventative maintenance. Luckily I didn't damage anything.

Dammit! I saw lots of people there, but I would have recognized you! I was also pretty busy fighting strollers (even though the park was not horribly crowded) we walked on every ride, pretty much, except the subs. We even rode Peter Pan with a fairly short wait of about 15 minutes.

Oh, well, it's not super exciting news - I'm not changing jobs or anything. I just bitched to the right people about how it was kind of sh!tty that I was setting up these new policies and procedures and reports and taking on training and supervision of a minion AND finding room in the budget to pay my successor more than I currently make. And that gee, if that's what this new version of my job is worth, it kind of sucks that I have to set it all up but I don't get the salary to go with it.

So, I had a suspicion that I might be getting a raise, but not the reclass (promotion.) It doesn't come with a fancy new title, since titles here are pretty meaningless and we can make up "functional" titles to actually use. But, it's just a bit of personal satisfaction to have made it out of the 07 salary class and into the 08 class before leaving the University.

{say a accident but the crime is still horrendous and the reason behind it...}

And, I couldn't find the link, but what about the guys who went to a house {sounds like drug dealings...} and started a rucous and then shot a guy who had come to that house and as they ran away, they stopped and shot the 9 month old sitting in the car in the head?

My mind is blown. And, these are only the things that are sticking out in my mind.

What kills me even more so is how we are across the world fighting crime while in our own back yard, criminals are taking hold of the street and terrorizing us. I don't know but I think a lot of that 2nd link, there are a lot of gangs that are run from Mexico. I've heard this a lot in the news, as I live even closer to the border.
